    You can pull the tamper fan out, loosen the hex screw with the provided tools and you can reduce the gram size by .5 for every half turn. 1.5-2 grams max or the machine will no longer tamp properly.

    Hi Gail,
    The manual of the machine says that you can adjust dosing...
    Please note below quote from the Breville Oracle touch Manual
    "AUTOMATIC GRINDING, DOSING & TAMPING"
    To adjust tamping height, please use the allen key provided. Pull the tamping fan down from the grind outlet, and then loosen the fan coupling inside by rotating it counterclockwise. You can adjust the length of the coupling by loosening the fastener with the allen key and rotating the coupling to the desired length.
    Hope this helps...
    Thanks

      Only the Oracle Touch has the allen set screw to adjust height of the tamp fan. The original Oracle (without the color touch screen) does not have the set screw.

    I honestly just wish I could tamp it myself I prefer adjusting grind size and going by a pressure gauge as apposed to automatic grind tamp and timer for the pull. I upgraded from the barista express thinking this was a better machine and technically it is but I pull a way better shot with my old machine. Probably will end up returning this.

    Gail, can you give us your preferred settings for the Oracle. So Grind, temperature, tamp pressure, infusion time and 1 or 2 cups etc. I'm trying to perfect my coffee.

    What happens if you only put 18 grams in the grinder? If it doesn't explode, it might be a good way to decrease the dose.

    I really like a strong piccolo. Will the Oracle give me enough extraction for a double shot piccolo? will the 1gram extra coffee really make much of a difference? If the pressure is changed, won't that affect the extraction itself? If so, how? stronger /weaker ???

    what would happen if you just measured out your beans to your desired dose first and then poured it into the hopper to go through the grind tamp cycle. Would it still work properly?

    •  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      It will not tamp properly. The dose is adjusted after the height of the coffee puck which you can adjust by pulling the propeller with the magnet and then pulling out that screw and adjusting it to a lower size. then measure your grind with a scale after. So your dose will be tamped correctly by the machine. imagein if you put 8 grams in a double shot. the machine could never tamp it, and the grinder will run forever ( they automated this after the heght of the puck. when they reached the needed height then the machine will tamp correctly) Try this solution!

    The Question is, if the difference is the same if you wait few Minutes. Maybe crazy yes, but if i make few espressos with Oracle Touch (the same temp presser) i get also another dosage. I think just because of temperature difference.

    I've also heard you can use a 15g VST basket to decrease your dose.

    • @ascosta
      @ascosta 8 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      That must work too, as the coffee puck would hit the tamping piece earlier and the sensor would detect the right pressure to stop at that point.

    That's so weird, when I tried this with my current coffee, going down to these lowest settings gave me 20 grams on my scale, however when I switched to a new coffee with the same settings, the scale then read 23 grams. What's even more alarming is that when I reset the Oracle back to factory settings, the scale then read 25 grams with the same coffee! Is my machine defective or something?

    Can you check how accurate is the brew temperature control in the Oracle? Thank you for all the great videos! I have a Barista Touch and can't for the life of me get the water coming out of the grouphead hotter than 150F. The shots are always really sour. Strangely, the water coming out of the hot water dispenser is about 185-190F. I am thinking about getting an Oracle instead.

    My measurements of coffee have increased like it’s not stopping early enough. Then the tamper fan can’t doesn’t move from too much coffee possibly or something is broken. Any ideas what it could be?

    Hi Gail,
    I own an Oracle. I ground a full porta filter and weighed it. I did this 10 times and noticed a delta of 0.6 grams. How much would this affect my shots?
    Thanks,

  • @MarcesAurelius
    @MarcesAurelius 6 ปีที่แล้ว +2

    Hi Gail, my Oracle has been grinding too much. I have to remove coffee from the porta filter and remove the fan to remove extra coffee above it. I cleaned the burrs and Reset the machine.
    Do you know what needs cleaning/replacing?

    •  4 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Mark! I found your solution! Take the tamping propeller out with the magnet and then pull or twist the rod ( depends you have Breville or Sage) then you need to largen the rod by unscrewing the allen screw. Then tighten the small allen screw bakc and try the dosage that way. If you largen the rod the dosage will be smaller if you shrink the rod the dosage will be bigger. I wish i could attach images to this lol.

    • @MarcesAurelius
      @MarcesAurelius 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Zsombor Sándor thank you for the info. It is a Breville Oracle v1.0, which didn’t have *adjustable* tamping fan connector, it’s not adjustable (no Allen screw)
      I was not able to remove my fixed size tamping fan to replace with an adjustable tamping fan connector, but finally was able to remove it with a technique suggested by a Breville technician, and lower the tamping fan, and reducing the dose to about 21 grams that is tamped perfectly!

    I tried out of curiosity to calculate the amount it grind and with the stock filter it gave me 23g which was much more than I expected, then I took my stock Rocket's R58 double basket which is a 18g but the Breville then grounded 24g into it like wtf?! How the heck can it put even more with a smaller basket, it makes no sense. It's so dumb you can't adjust the grinding time or weight on that machine.

    Got the machine for a couple months. From my perspective mine doesn't produce enough pressure (I guess). The reason I say that is when I'm using freshly roasted beans (from the local coffee shop), I set the grinder to the most coarse setting (I guess it's 45), I set the tamp pressure to 1 (which is minimum) and I still barely getting 40-60ml when I do press "double shot" button. Even with that crazy settings the coffee started to drip around 8-9 seconds. The only way for me to overfill the measuring cups is to have the empty portafiller :) Is there a way to test the pressure? If someone has the same machine - can you test how much water it is using when you used double shot button with an empty portafiller? I would appreciate any comments.

    • @PanzerIV88
      @PanzerIV88 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      The Oracle of my mom is leaking all over from the tank reservoir when brewing since a while so not enough pressure reach the 2 boilers which give poor steam wand performance and under-extraction with very little coffee dripping from the portafilter. We'll try changing the tank and group seals, I so hate this overpriced POS machine.

    • @nikolaim5
      @nikolaim5 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hmm, what kind of roast are your fresh beans? If it's a dark drip roast then it might be clogging up your machine. Espresso roast is typically a lighter, medium roast. Less oils to clog up

    • @HETPEZB
      @HETPEZB 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@nikolaim5 , I’m only using light roast, non-oily, non-flavored. For a couple of years now purchasing it on Amazon. My grinder setting is on 43, but looks like the result is fine.

    ...that is totally normal, cause the grinding stop is driven by the height of the tamper...
    the higher the pressure the higher the amount of coffe in the same volume.
    Where is the miracle? That is Physics...

    Another myth to try out: it's claimed all the time that the Vario has X * Y settings, where X is the number of coarse settings and Y is the number of fine settings. That's not 100% accurate. There is an overlap between adjacent coarse settings. To test this out, calibrate de grinder to start touching burrs at 2Q, then move the coarse lever to 3 (so now it's in 3Q) and start moving the fine setting finer until they start touching again. It should happen at 3E or so.

    These machines are not "precision" instruments. I would want to do that test a succession of times to determine if the results shown in this video are consistent. My hunch is they would not be. My machine channels more than it does not and I can't seem to make the adjustment in the way that could be done with a manual machine. Its an okay machine, but I don't love it. This machine is not for people who are skilled at making full-on manual espresso in my opinion.
