I was also a victim of hitch hiker problems with new plants. They looked ok and I rinsed them off before adding. What a mess a few days later. Took forever to fix. I now quarantine everything. Great tip!
I increased the dosing as the Riccia grew, so I’m pretty confident fertilization wasn’t the issue. Thank you for sharing your thoughts, though-it’s always great to discuss ideas!
I remember buying 6 Ottos from a fish shop outside my town. I did not quarantine. Within a week, I had fish deaths. Every fish started pineconing wuth dropsy and started dying. Also, I had a Cobalt heater failed on. Cooked my tank. Now I quarantine and have a controller.
The heater tip is very interesting; I'll look into it

Pest snails are not a nuisance. If you keep nutrients low they are also low in numbers. And they are beneficial for the tank, eating all organic matter that will just be decomposing.

You don't think that adding a fast growing plant like Riccia caused your ferts to be depleted a lot quicker, causing the algae bloom?

That's true, but I already have a cleaning crew for that. Even now, those snails are still multiplying in my tank, and that's not something I want.
You did not keep goldfish and angelfish together in the same tank, did you? 🫣
Only for a couple of days because my friend wanted to get rid of them 😅 I found them a good home quickly, though 👍
@@underwatergardens709 OK, I see. 😅 You have some beautiful tanks. ❤🤗 I am an aquascaper, too.
