Of course they can bite underwater the question is if a croc or gator is coming for you will it follow you and chomp you underwater or will it wait for you to surface
I think a better test would have been to try and offer the gator food on the stick below water and see if they pursue to eat it. Perhaps a whole chicken or something similar.
I think the real question is will alligators attack underwater because it appears that they're more docile underwater. I believe Gators or more likely to bite if you're on top of the water.
Yes bites underwater completely less powerful and not with full force as the water affects the bite as well aligators would avoid water getting in their tummy, so it's force definately not the same .
If it couldn't, how would it be able to death roll while holding on to anything? But I didn't see it chomp down on the noodle like I assume it would do on land. This was more "will it casually close its mouth over something underwater".
I can bite underwater, just answer the question. I dont think they can feed, they drown their prey then roll off chunks, they dont have a dining table down there tho because they breath air like us, which is why carcases float & if ur home is under water ur not in the kitchen trying to light the pilot for supper, simple
@plaguelock that wasn't a threatened response for this gator but yes it was able to bite if you are putting it there. But would this be the same as an actual mistake for food response. They should've fed it underwater.
If they could bite and eat as quick they would not jump above water, when most of the animals they kill, they easily without a sound can grab their legs and pull them without a fierce attack above water,

We can bite scream hold our mouths open underwater blow bubbles etc and nothing will happen until we try to "swallow."
If humans who aren't even aquatic creatures can bite underwater why can't an alligator?
