Yes, that’s a type 58 I believe and it’s good stuff. You did good at that price 😊. Maybe get extra ones for however many canteens you have because that’s cheap for them.
That is a nice cup and price. I have a U.S. canteen cup with the handle that folds under. Bought at a pawn shop for $5. I use my green Stanley cup with it.
Speaking as a Brit we hated them! The older metal 44 Pattern cup was very sought after the introduction of the 58 patt cup. The 58 patt water bottle was however liked by the majority of us, in the 70's I carried two water bottles, one 58 patt with a 44 patt cup and an American water bottle (found unattended in Grafenwöhr!) I liked the smaller neck on the US bottles and my "go to" cups are now the stainless steel Crusader cup and the Dutch metal canteen cup which has a nicer rim to drink from, I just use the Crusader to cook in which is slightly larger.
I have the full set, minus the stove: metal cup, canteen, and the top plastic cup. Excellent pieces of kit. I don’t have the carrying bag for it, but I am on the lookout for something that will work.
I have seen videos by British soldiers. They put the cup in the csnteen carrier and the bottle in upside down. That may allow the bottle to sit lower in the carrier.
US canteen will sick in if you turn it the other way round. In the late 80’s early 90’s most people left the plastic cup behind and paid for a metal cup.
@@FloridaBoyBushcraftSurvival ok thanks I ll just google it see what comes up in the county. Im surprised Baker county dont have Flea markets. thanks Matt👍🏻
Brits don't cook in a canteen cup. They have dedicated mess tins that they heat water in, place the meal pouch in for cooking. That way they have a cooked meal and hot water for use.
it was the 58 pattern water bottle and cup supposed to be issued to go with the new issue 58 pattern webbing unusually the cup fitted on top of the bottle at the time British military were using a 2 piece set of rectangular mess tins I believe in the early 70s BCB manufactured a stainless steel cup which fitted under the canteen, there was also a burner unit which cradled the cup originally private purchase and lots of soldiers bought it to either replace the mess tins or supplement them I think it eventually became an issue item and once British Army rations fully switched to retort pouches from small cans it really came into its own, you only have to watch some of Ray Mears videos to see he is a fan of the system although he is a Billy Can man at heart
You can buy a crusader mug and a water bottle and you have a similar set to the US GI one.if you send me a contact email, I will send you a pic. Craig.🇮🇲

Great perspective from someone who has actually used them! Thanks!
