Now look at the review they made him make

This sounds like a track on a voidz album that fans would say sounds more like a strokes song that a voidz song, if that makes sense
Fufflunsify I thought it sounded like a voidz song at the beginning
It's like a reverse Leave It In My Dreams where people thought a Strokes song got lost in a Voidz album
Soooooooo it sounds like the Strokes?
loool
this reads like it makes no sense at all, but it was literally the same thing i thought.
“Julian is one of my favorite singers” my heart is gonna burst

Once again I ask you to let me into the strokes band
Bernie has a folk album actually

Meanwhile Alex Turner still isn't one of the strokes.
Gorillaz AND The Strokes coming back strong. Okay, I'm here for it.
Now if we could get a strong comeback from Arcade Fire that would be nice
@@3Ggian Amen brother.
Im just asking for a new mcr song but I know my hopes shouldn't be high.
@@3Ggian Yes! Sadly I don't really see that happening after Everything Now
Gian bruh
This was one of Julians best performances imo, he is being very real and confident which I feel like he doesn’t always do.
idk if this is a well known song, but no one there from exhibition has some very good emotional vocals from julian and it reminds me of that
I don't know if you have listened to Phrazes for the Young
(Not my fav record from Julian). I think he already sound real and confident in there.
Nicolás Bravo I know! Right when I heard this song I thought of no one there immediately
@@nicobravoh YES the chrous of this song was so reminiscent of the bridge from that song

Free everything and new strokes music. It really is a Utopia.
He is a socialist moron so NO
Julian’s voice is the clearest it’s ever been. I always wish he didn’t always go with the distortion and auto tune with his voice being so original. Hope to hear more songs like this where his voice is just so refreshing
alex rodriguez I agree.
Yes! All thanks to Rick Rubin!
Don't listen to Ode to the Mets den..
Andrea G lol I mean I like his classics too with his voice adjusted, it can still be a good track. But it’s nice being able to hear his voice clearly too
They've got lots of material with no distortion on the vocals, like entirety of first impressions. Hell this song is a lot like the synth song on that album.
It's gotta Phrazes For the Young vibe to it.
Kim VanFelton yes!!!
I’m not the only one.
@Luka Kpo1 Come on
Didn't expect the review to be you just stroking it for 6 minutes while looking deadpan into the camera. Best review in awhile. Thanks melon.
The Strokes/Bernie rally was insane!!
BEST ENDING TO ANYTHING, EVER!!!
Julian was sing the course for NYC cop while a cop was telling him to shut it down. EPIC
I saw that and noticed the cop gave him a dirty look and Julian laughed a bit and finished the song and then Jules ran off. Lmao.🤣

Jesus, Melon. You didn't have to categorize The Strokes as "Urban."
Not cool.
Al Joku well they hail from nyc !
THEY ARE THE STROKES AND NOT THE BLACK KEYS. SO THEY SHOULDN’T BE UNDER URBAN
A little too “uppity” for my tastes

Green day has always been garbage..they have like 5 good songs followed by mediocrity

Damn yo, I hadn’t heard about this, but I just watched the video, & it is WILD. It’s animated in a style that’s kind of like... A cross between really old (Snow White era) Disney movies, some elements of anime (especially in the space scenes), & old animated video games like Dragon’s Lair... The first scene, of the family inside the house, actually reminded me a lot of a 2D version of the rotoscoped style of the recent Amazon show Undone... Which, btw, I have to plug- Undone is easily one of the best shows I’ve seen in ages (if not the best). It’s extremely brief & right- 8 episodes at around 20 minutes each, & you can fly through them in 1-2 sittings the way they drive you to keep watching... But dear god. Beautiful story; brilliantly written; lovable, very human characters; awesome surrealist/subtly psychedelic art style; deals with awesome cerebral subject matter like shamanism, venturing within the mind (or on higher planes of existence), time-travel, the fine line between peering through the veil to deeper truths vs losing your mind... I think it’s very accessible, & the way it deals with family issues is relatable & emotionally evocative for pretty much anyone, but especially if you’re interested in any of those topics, it’s truly amazing. As someone who has a lot of “psychonautic” and seemingly mystical experience in addition to that more universal stuff, it dealt with so much that really hit home for me on a very personal level. But I’d encourage anyone to give it a chance, because damn. It’s an experience. Talking about it is making me want to re-watch it.
Very good song too. Haha. Curious how the rest of the LP will compare.
Matthew Fodell I thought the music video was beautiful too
It reminded me of Watership Down
it sounds just like how 2020 feels

Future: At The Door
Present: Ode To The Mets
Past: The Adults Are Talking
If there's a similar mix of style on top of the tracks actually being good, this album could be a banger.
That's cool that you noticed that! I remember figuring out a similar thing with the songs in Future Present Past. For example...
Future: Drag Queen
Present: OBLIVIUS
Past: Threat of Joy
And to add, in OBLIVIUS, when Julian says, "What side are you standing on" repeatedly, he's saying to his fans/anyone if they are willing to go with the future (drag queen) sound, or stay in the past (Threat of Joy).
wasnt a fan of the ‘DJ got us falling in love again’ synth for the first 15 seconds until the track embellished a bit more, then I really fell into it
Avery Mullin I was getting ready to hear “Creeper Awwww Man”
It's called a saw wave and I thought it was rich and beautiful as fuck
4:21 that was very low of you, Anthony...

Fader " To the race Mobile "
Yeah, the strokes are pretty cool melon, but you didn't need to scream every 5 seconds that you would be gay for Julian Casablancas...
Yeah, that is the default setting of The Strokes fandom.
Melon why wasn't any of the Voidz stuff on your decade list?? At least Human Sadness?? That was an amazing song......

Thank you bernietony stroketano
How the vocals just blendes in the mix did it for me I think. Really nice tune
1 comment watched you forever keep up the reviews dude!
I really love Julian's experimentation on the Voidz so I love seeing him bring some of that over to the Strokes! :)
Been a strokes fan from high school and loved this song even got one of my best friends who's a major metal head into the Strokes.
I’m gonna be honest here, I first found out about them because of Transformers
on sam witwicky's t-shirt?
@Daniel Mullarkey Yep
I'm dissapointed in you....
That Strokes t shirt was the most developed character in that movie
@LouOnTheSun Even as someone that still really likes the first 3 movies (mostly because of childhood nostalgia), I absolutely agree
This sounds like a song that Julian forgot to put on Phrazes for the young.
Really well put, good review. Glad you appreciate the chorus and vivid imagery
I come back to this review just to smile I love these men so much lol
The beginning synth note sounds like “DJ Has got Me Falling in Love Again” by Usher. Totally digging it
this is my first the strokes song and I ABSOLUTELY LOVED IT! if this new album sounds like this entirely im gonna be in for a treat. Any other the strokes song which sounds similar???
You many not care anymore, but a kind of similar song I think might be call it fate, call it karma
@@brbanimations4461 I checked it out, It's pretty dope! Very different from the new abnormal though
This is kind of the only strokes song that sounds like this lol, makes it extra special
i honestly love this so much!! its definitelt... so different from past strokes sounds, but i love this new direction. it feels fresh, julian has this like.. new tone, new life in his voice, and idk i am HERE for it
Thank you for this video Anthony, I never listened to the strokes before this review, and this song has become one of my favorite to listen to since this video came out and I watched it

I've been waitin for this all day...
I definitely thought the rest of the instrumentation would come in eventually, but I LOVE how un-Strokes it is. (I loved the parts of Comedown Machine and Future Present Past that departed from their sound too) Rick Rubin's great at making things as minimal as possible as a producer. Excited for the rekkid!
I can’t believe it actually sounds good.

I was in love with this track when I heard it. My mom and I use to listen to The Strokes when I was a kid and I grew up with them so I was so psyched to hear they were making a new album and that one of the first song they relase from it sounds the way it does.
I feel like this track really draws their old sound and their new direction very well together. Mainly through Julians raw singing like you said, which I missed a lot. The album could become a middle-ground that all fans can sorta vibe on I hope

Heard it at Bernie Sanders’ rally. Loved it.
Posting this now before watching the review cause I thought of it at about 1:07 as much as I love The Strokes (they’re still my #1 favorite band to date) I do like the Voidz as well but am also still eager/hopeful to see everyone else’s solo ventures some more too, especially if it’s another long wait before we get new Strokes material (even though I hope it’s not). But I’d love to maybe see more stuff from Nick’s side project CRX, maybe some new Little Joy material with Fab or even his own, new thing. I know AHJ’s still cranking out solo work and I’m still liking a lot of it. And to top it off, I’d love, love, love to see Nikolai’s Summer Moon or even his first band Nickel Eye return. Aside from that, I still want all my boys to keep The Strokes alive, can’t wait for the album, and I’m excited to see any new material from them going forward
Hit the nail on the head. I’m lovin this track as a diehard lifelong strokes fan, for all the reasons you noted it’s excellence. Can’t wait to hear the rest of the album!
I was at the reveal last night and it was some of the worst audio from a concert I've ever heard! But, I still had a blast.
The Struck me like a chord line is actually really deep if you think about it.
Anthony it's about time we get classic review of Is this it!
I'm glad you liked it cos I heard it today and was really pleased and it was great to do college work to, I too love the raw synths :)
New singles by Gorillaz and The Strokes dropping within the same month, what year is this? 2005?
Ikr! And greenday! Tho that one was absolute garbage😂😂.
Love this - Bad Decisions sounds down the line Classic Strokes imo.
Saw the Strokes and the Voidz last year and I prefer the Voidz.
When I first heard Electricityscape on their First Impressions of Earth album, my first thought of Julian's use of vocal octaves reminded me of Frank Sinatra. It's interesting to hear that you listen to that same similarity. Very good catch.
The hype is at Ode to the Mets, they've played it lived and so far it's my favorite one.
“This track is so bad that it makes me want to have a stroke”
Nice one Anthony.
Also I don’t know if you take Let’s Argue or Lets Agree submissions in the comments, but I’m going to do one anyways.
Let’s Agree: The Fader article ruined your comment section, because now it’s riddled with boring “omg Anthony racist” jokes. Instead of actual discussion, which used to exist in your older videos from my experience.
in my experience, those comments were definitely a thing before the Fader article, and actually contributed to Anthony seeming like be appealed to the alt-right as so many comments were like that
You haven't been with Melon very long. The comments are pretty much exclusively a result of 4chan as Mr. fantwon is /mu/'s greatest meme generator
Virtual Blaze I’m not denying they didn’t exist, but they weren’t always so highly upvoted. And were not in the same volume.
The Strokes were experimenting with tracks similar to this as early on their 3rd album (Ask Me Anything). No one should be surprised at this point. The surprise would be if they released an album with all guitars/bass/drums etc. ala Room on Fire and Is This It.
CAn't stop listening to this track. Larger than life and yet so immediately private and cutting. Love it.
i was at the rally they premiered this at! i had to leave a little early but i heard this muffled while i was out in the lobby and i just had to stop and listen. it was a super beautiful moment
Sounds more like the voidz than the strokes
Felt the same way
and the newer voidz stuff like "leave it in my dreams" and "did my best" or "wink" sounds a lot more like the strokes
Reminds me of Julian’s solo album and especially the song old Hollywood
@@marcusvinicius4192 These are confusing times

Just because it's called 'At the Door' doesn't mean you have to stand by my bedroom door watching me watch you. Kinda creepy, actually
I heard this 2 minutes after it came out at 6 am in the morning and man did that start off the day
Reminds me of Trying Your Luck off their first album, which is one of my favorite Strokes' songs. Song is so damn good.
"The art of the cover is as simplistic as my beatiful Ridge wallet" isn't a good reason to like the song, Anthony...
C'mon, review the whole album, Dude! This is arguably the best (alt) R&R group of all time!!
IKNOW!!! I feel the same way. (I thought the new album was on the same level as their1st it first 2 LP’s, but so much MORE)... please, please, pretty great!!!Fantano, What say you?
When I listened to the First couple notes I thought they were going to play Ushers "DJ got us Falling in Love"
Saw them in NH, and they opened with Burning (Berning) Down the House by Talking Heads.
Melon, even though you really liked the track, it doesn't mean you can say Julian is *thicc* as hell
I gotta listen to this again I think I really like it. I just think it’s an odd single.
I caught myself singing along to the track reviews theme!
I lived to see melon loving a strokes track again
It’s not really that weird for them. They’ve had a song like this on every album since their third one. It’s just never been as epic as this one lol
This is cool. You should also review Eminem's Oscar performance. It was awesome! He finally got what he deserved over a decade ago
Nevermind the review, nice intro song mang!
It feels really refreshing seeing Anthony happy/excited for something coming from the 2000's indie scene.
"I am once again asking for more instruments."
Why did you give this 8 Love-dis but gave the greenday albumn only 0 love-diss smh
Because GD album is pure garbage
I'm super pumped for this album and the video for this song is great. It's such an eerie track and that's what I dig about it.
I like the track reviews intro !
Where's that Denzel Curry UNLOCKED review though
UNLOCKED? More like UNREVIEWED, amirite?
Nice review Anthony but was it nessecary to make fun of stroke victims by pretending to have a stroke
