I'll never forget this day, travelled down from Liverpool. We were in the ground for hours...got back home to catch it in channel 4. What a fantastic day! The Pogues were amazing, mops everywhere...McGowan wellied goes off stage and they carried on...what a leap with the accordian !! Anyone remember the other bands on the day? Robert Palmer, boiling hot day, suited and booted.
My dad always tells me the story of him and two of his mates hearing the bass of the speakers in a park in sparkhill and deciding to go down to st andrews to have a mooch. They ended up climbing over the gate behind a burger van and sneaking in. He says what proceeded was one of the best days and concerts he has ever been to. Being just a sparkle in my dads eye at the time, UB40 is the sound of my childhood growing up in the streets that ub40 grew up in. Got to see them this year at the same location st andrews, what a band with a huge stock of classsic tunes that i will pass on to my children. Rest in peace to all the members that have passed on, one love one ub40.

I saw UB40 the next year NYC front row Beacon Theater. Watching the Yamaha WX7 being played (Sing Our Own Song) was just an extraordinary moment.
Was there that night. Best gig UB40 ever performed apart from Walsall Town Hall in 1980. You just had to be there….
