I saw Waipuna Rd - Mt Wellington & I heard Apirana Ave which is in Glen Innes - Also he said watch out for the "Check Point" - I would have thought he would have said the "3R" Police code - Well done and much appreciated for the Vlog
Awesome video mate, I regularly chat to one of my mates who is a police officer in Western Australia and frig sake some of the stuff I have herd it's just sad really.
Unattended children is so savage by the caregivers. I remember walking through Cuba st down here in wellies. Me and my partner had just crossed the road and saw a pram with a baby in it (less than a yr old) in the sun outside a clothing shop. We stopped and observed for about 2mins then approached as it was a really hot day and the 2mins was more than long enough for a child to be alone. Once we assessed the situation we called the police and started looking for the caregivers. Took about 25mins to find the woman looking after the child or rather was suppose to. Turns out the woman was like a nanny who wanted to shop for clothing but not with the child. What kind of human leaves a baby alone?? It struck me as weird because she was Asian. I've always found Asians to be really good with their children/ones they're caring for.
Love this. Makes me long even more to join. Couple questions. Is it like America and you get a long term partner so to speak and also can you do a blog of or if you have a social life with other work mates?? Cheers
Whenever the intro comes on and he says, hi I'm johnny.... I do this weird salute thing along with him. I've been doing it a while and somehow I feel like now it's bad luck if I don't 😂
what do you use to navigate to a job? Car GPS/google maps? and can/does the operator that dispatches you update the location for you or do you have to punch in the address/location?
All of the above, Google Maps is my go-to because it shows how properties connect as well as walkways and other possible escape routes. Our phones have a heap of custom apps that dispatch update with job details too so it's not just us. - Constable Hurn.
hey bro really loving the vlogs. i have a pre test on the 1st of dec for police any advice i need before going in? and il come through on the 16th to sylvia and have a chat too.

They are a common test so you can find similar example questions online. Brushing up on your basic math without a calculator is also a good one to do. - Constable Hurn.
Just curious at 02:38 when you were making that left turn, I noticed that she turned her blinker on to make that turn. I know when running code at least here in the United States that your headlights and and such are wig wags and flashing the whole time. Was that a reflex/muscle memory thing you do when you make a turn or for a purpose lights wise when running code? Thanks!
Probably a bit of both, good spotting! Indicating just becomes second nature, but the way our lights are set up the indicators aren't effected so they can actually still be used as indicators. - Constable Hurn.
Although it is "Ride along" can you include some body cam footage? Obviously only on jobs that are in the public eye for privacy reasons, maybe just blur faces? Would make the videos a few minutes longer which would be great. My father is an officer in the New Zealand police so I am very intrigued & slightly addicted to these videos! Also wish to join the Police in the future!
We don't have body camera's Josh so it's sometimes a bit impractical to record things out and about but it is something I'm working on, thanks for the feedback. - Constable Hurn.
Hey Constable Hurn. Question for you, How does Auckland Police manage low staffing levels with an expensive house market!? I want to become a police officer in Auckland but moving from another city to Auckland the lack of housing concerns me hahaha.
Lots of cops end up flatting together, that's one solution. One positive is the shifts often have you commuting at off peak times so traffic isn't too bad even if you're a little further out, if you're like me on two wheels it's even faster. For me the pace and variety of work here makes it all worth it. - Constable Hurn.
We aren't issued with body cameras so I don't have one. I carry my gopro around in my hands sometimes though so you can see things out on foot. - Constable Hurn.
Constable Hurn, what a great driving instructor 😂👌 wish I could make the 16th. Keep cool and stay awesome. Loving the vlogs ♥️ should also create a vlog Snapchat

There are all kinds of people in the Police! Communication is probably the most important skill. Included in that addressing groups, and dealing with crowds is often important so some confidence and volume helps but away from work you'll find lots of cops that are very different from what you'd expect. - Constable Hurn.
Hello! I am currently studying Criminology at my local uni with 6 months left. I'm 22 years old and I was just wondering if I would be considered to young if I were to apply when i complete my degree at the end of the semester. Thanks
Just wanted to ask Constable Hurn, how easy is it to progress into the other career pathways once you have completed your 2 years. Does there need to be a position opening or are they always looking for people to join other teams? (LLB student looking to do organised crimes or detective work). Also want to say a big thank you to all you boys and girls in blue. I'm in my early stages of recruitment in the Auckland district and hope to get through to join the team soon. (Also what time will you be at Sylvia park? )
Depends on the role, they are basically always looking for people to fill specialist roles though, especially if they have existing skills and experience that could help. I'm not 100% on what time yet, I'll post up as soon as I know. - Constable Hurn

How mentally challenging is it for you being a cop? I'm planning on joining in 2019. I have a few cops in my family, but I've never really wanted to ask them questions about certain things, I'm just worried that I won't be able to handle dealing and seeing things in certain aspects of policing.
I'd be lying if I said it wasn't tough at times. Id encourage you to have those conversation with the cops you do know. It's going to be a topic of an upcoming video so I'll save my answer for now, make sure you subscribe! Constable Hurn.

But I really wanted to show the drive, how involved it is and how passengers are more in a co-pilot role, navigating, helping spot hazards etc. Maybe in the next ep I'll have something good facing forward! - Constable Hurn.
Question: so when you're on your way to a job with lights going, one of you obviously drives, and does the other in the passenger seat navigate, and no chit chat other than navigation, or is that only because you're doing training?
