- just going bout my business and these Canadian tire lawyers ran across the store to make sure they got on video saying its illegal to video tape which it isn't of course but instead of not saying anything and letting me get what i needed and be on my way which would have bin just us getting the battery and off we would be, they made it into more than it needs to be and telling me made up laws and giving me a hard time, why i don't know it doesn't make sense to me if i didnt want to be on video i just simply wouldn't cause a scene in front of someone that clearly has a camera but thats just me a spose

When you are on private property, the property owner sets the rules about the taking of photographs or videos. If you disobey property owners' rules, they can order you off their property (and have you arrested for trespassing if you do not comply). its under the sign bmp
The signs says they have security cameras, not that filming isnt allowed.

Well..the vid clearly shows the sign (req'd by law) on the door that says they use cameras. If you don't accept that or have a problem with it you don't have to enter the store (no one's making you). Stores have not only the right to do it but they have a legal responsibility to protect their employees. (most people don't like the idea of being video'd at work-much less shared on the internet without their consent. ) It's actually not (just) a civil matter where you risk getting sued but can also be a criminal matter as this could be considered criminal harassment.

Just my 2 cents I own a car dealer and have a shop (just for my vehicles) but I have an older guy who comes in and his shop is a mess but he does the best work ever.
When I was a teen,there was a local guy who reminds me of this guy,his work was top notch and he gave me the lowest prices around !! So,you cant judge a book by its cover..Remember that..If you like to waste more money and get ripped off then go to someone who will charge you 10 times the price and rip you off for parts you dont need..

Its illegal to video tape on private property which you were on, if they ask you to stop you have to, common fucking knowledge. If they don't ask you then don't stop. If its not private property and your in public you're good. Also if they ask to not be on camera on private property, they shouldn't be.
And they even have it posted on their door.

Under Regulation of Parks By-Law 111-2008 on the St Thomas website, there is reference to video recording on page 4, part 3 section 13, taking pictures or recording video of someone without their consent is not permitted in any parks or recreation areas within the city.
However, given that inside the store is private property, as owned by the company, they are permitted to request that you not record, and order you off the property if you do. (They can order you off their property for any reason.) And so while the bylaw she mentioned doesn't apply to the inside of a store, they are permitted to prevent you from returning, even going as far as calling police if you attempt to enter.

Again and again, IT IS ILLEGAL TO RECORD ANYONE BY ANY TYPE OF MEDIA INSIDE OF PROPERTY THAT YOU DO NOT OWN OR CONTROL THIS INCLUDES ANY PROPERTY THAT HAS PUBLIC ACCESS. An example would be someone could film THE OUTSIDE of your property from a roadway or sidewalk without violating anyone's rights. The moment they STEPPED INSIDE of your property they need your permission to record. Also business's have a right to protect their property from theft is one of the bigger reason the do not want any recording done. Go to Las Vegas and try and record inside of a casino and see what happens. They may confiscate your devices and have you arrested and barred from the casino and even barred from all casino's because they do pass this information on to other casino's.

Canada is a "one-party" legal environment when it comes to recording. Source: Section 184(2)(a) of the Criminal Code of Canada. Subsection 2a exempts people who are a party to a communication from the injunction in Subsection 1.
What this means is that you are allowed to record, without the consent of the other party any conversation that you yourself are a party to.
This means that you cannot surreptitiously record a conversation between two other parties if you are not a party to that conversation.
This has nothing to do with any trespassing statutes, which are a separate issue and not actually related to the legality of your recording activities, but they can probably exclude you for any reason, and if you refuse to comply, you can be charged with trespass. So if you are discovered recording and are asked to leave, you should do so.
why do you never mention to the store staff that if its illegal by bylaw that they them selves are breaking that law by filming you on their security cameras without your consent .
Sometimes it’s not what’s legal or not. It’s just common curtesy. Most people do not want anything thing to do with being part of your movie and want to have be able to go out and about without ending up on one of your stupid movies and you should respect that.
