- 2 days trekking and Wild Camping on Dartmoor during a spell of bad weather.
Check out Tony's channel here: / @tonyhobbs
Tony has a wealth of camping experience on Dartmoor and many other places too:)
If you have enjoyed the video please leave a "thumbs up" please as it helps with the wretched TH-cam algorithm!
Lassie is thinking: These guys have houses, right?
Yeah but see her cleaning Sandy's tray for him, I never get that level of service lol mind you I don't have a tray! See a house trained dog ;-) The pond is too deep so Lassie needs to get to a river occasionally or she'll dry out being part amphibadog....
“ what is this life if, full of care. We have no time to stand and stare”. (So true)👍
I watched this one in my lounge and could almost feel the cold and wet. I always have a slow pack down, mainly because getting it the tent back in the bag is a challenge.
Been a really cold June…but it will be reported as the warmest since records began!
Totally agree with you sandy regarding the weather.I live in Devon and it's been so cold for this time of year.
Don't give up on the hiking camps. Keep going as long as you can.
I'd still be boiling the water. That sheep carcass you saw could have been floating around in it. (Have seen that on dartmoor before.)
complete with liver fluke.
Me and my mates growing up in the 60s thought nothing of drinking water from streams, rivers and pools. I’m sure there were dead sheep or whatever upstream at some of the water sources but our guts were used to the onslaught and coped just fine. These days folk are cleaning themselves and their environments to the point they’re training their guts to fight nothing!
Pretty much spot on with my thoughts
exactly, if there is something dead upstream, if you can see it its too close, if you can't even see it by time that water reaches you, it'll be so diluted to not be a problem, for the most part. I've been drinking hill water for over ten years, ignoring all the fear mongering about viruses bacteria and all deradly things in the water and understanding if something happened - it hasnt yet - most likely not the water. Good to read a little common sense is about these days still.
@@WiltshireMan I have watched so many videos where bushcraft/camping people are filtering and boiling their water and so I just assumed that that was extremely important. Having watched you drink from the spring at Bishopstone I had begun to think a bit differently though. Along with these other two comments I now realize that as with much else in this life it's all a matter of common sense and ignoring the fear porn! Thank you! And yes, the weather is definitely being manipulated. I take photos of the sky most mornings...
@@lizziel4876 Hi Lizzie, lots of fear porn about at the moment I'm afraid. I just try and ignore the mainstream and do my own thing. Most water above human habitation should be OK to drink, it was being drunk for thousands of years by those who went before us.
Good to see you out on the moor with your rucksack Sandy 👍🏻👍🏻
It's been a while since I was on the moor Nicholas but sure was good to be back:)
Good to see tony and dog out again 👌👌
thank you - Sandy was great company
The tranquility of solitude.
Solitude is a lovely thing to experience Rob
Totally awesome mate. Dont stop
What a beautiful rugged countryside! Looks like you had a great hike and time out with a friend.
Thanks Tommy,
You will not find a more rugged place than Dartmoor, it was great to be back here again:)
Another great video sandy!
June is my birth month & it’s always been nice and warm. My mate who lives in Devon kept telling me that he could see the planes up in the sky criss crossing so I looked into it the Met office have said that they have been doing geoengineering in an effort to combat climate change! So yes it appears that they are messing with the weather 🤔
Thankyou guys a nice relaxed camp, just what the doctor orderd.
filter your water Sandy could be dead sheep, deer or badgers up stream and it will come out the other end faster than you drank it.
E coli Sandy.......!!!!
The taste of sheep piss early in morning 😂
Such wise old owls
Beautiful video. Thank you.
The shapes of the eroded stones on the Tors. Hard rock. Hard rain.
I follow @ChrisTownsendOutdoor but didn't realise he walked with Tony
Should always boil and filter stream water you never know what's in it.
water is all that is in it ;-)
I absolutely agree with you regarding the weather, something underhand is going on somewhere. They created rain clouds in Dubai and almost flooded the place so if it can be done there it can be done anywhere. It's really getting me down because i'm desperate to try out some bikepacking kit and it will put me off for life if I head out in the kind of rain we had at the weekend.
Anyway, great video as always. I'm already subscribed to Tony's channel, he does some good stuff too.
Yes I heard about the heavy rain in Dubai, quite weird
Hi Sandy, what a nice chap Tony seems to be,his knowledge of Dartmoor is invaluable,as you said it can be a very unforgiving place if the weather clamps in,my only experience of Dartmoor was on our End to End ride many years ago & the conditions over it were horrendous thick mist & driving rain,as for drinking the water I’ll look out for the glowing man of Wiltshire 😳,another great video & many thanks, atb Colin P,👍
You only glow if you drink from the Peckham spring Colin:)
Great video Sandy pleased you enjoyed it apart from the weather you had the opposite to what I had blistering hot weather and where you drunk your water on first camp I had a bath 😂😂😂😂😂 sorry and we had some really good views ATB Daz
Your bath water tasted OK Daz:)
Sandy in all the time I've been following and knowing you this is the video that has hit home the most 🙌 what an enjoyable experience with Tony and his collie , I had a collie cross lurcher ( CALLED QUIGLEY ) who sadly passed away a while ago , although Tony's tent did look roomier, I think it was bordering tarp tent 👍 good job the jinx wasn't on this one and rialobran will have put you in goodstead , I might not of walked the miles you've done in your life but I'd of certainly liked to of been your guardian angel on some of those 🙌 always there for you Sandy just holla 🍺🫶🤙
Cheers Martin:) Maybe the Jinx was about somwhere else on the moor hence the bad weather? :)
Nice comment, it was a lovely trip, and Sandy has captured it perfectly. It's an MLD trailstar and yes it's really a shaped tarp. Ive a few vids on it only a few ..... indeed I've a few vids on MLD.... only a few....
Know that country very well, Sandy. You had a fantastic, rugged adventure in beautiful Devon 😊.
Good camp Sandy. Your talk about water made me smile, as a kid we had fields behind the house. The fields had a spring and we all used to drink from the spring. I was fascinated watching the water come from the earth. Down stream it gave us more entertainment by daming the stream up and then let the water rush out. Harmless fun but I didn’t half get into trouble with mum coming home covered in mud. Not a games machine in sight. 73’s
Sounds like your childhood was similar to mine Andy:)
@@WiltshireMan didn’t matter whether it was summer or winter only went home for meals and bedtime.
Simpler times that I long for now.
A wonderful hike Sandy. The weather was not the most pleasant but the beautiful scenery that surrounded you and great companion (Tony) more than made up for that. The weather has been very sporadic here where I live also Sandy (the state of Oregon on the west coast of the U.S.) Summer is off to a rather rough start I think. It will smooth out soon hopefully and the expected bright blue skies will be with us for a while then. Thank you so much for letting us join you on this adventure. See you on the next one my friend.
Thanks for watching Terry, you live in a rather beautiful part of the world also I believe:)
Another superb video, your fast becoming the man for this type of content on youtube it's so inspiring to see you embrace the elements like you do and the history you impart upon us where you are travelling, cannot wait for the next video it's all so varied regards, Colin.
Thanks Colin :)
Well done 🤟🤟
Another great adventure, thanks for sharing it! There’s nothing quite like the taste and feeling you get from drinking straight from a fresh, cold stream.
Really great film of your trip Sandy. That landscape certainly looks wild and lonely, but beautiful at 5he same time. I bet it would be easy to stray off course if you aren’t too hot at navigation.
Absolutely, the other thing is most of the paths are just sheep trails and they will lead you astray too
Excellent!! my two favourite trampers!! This is what it’s all about!🤠👍🏼
😊

What is this life if, full of care,
We have no time to stand and stare? -
No time to stand beneath the boughs
And stare as long as sheep or cows:
No time to see, when woods we pass,
Where squirrels hide their nuts in grass:
No time to see, in broad daylight,
Streams full of stars, like skies at night:
No time to turn at Beauty's glance,
And watch her feet, how they can dance:
No time to wait till her mouth can
Enrich that smile her eyes began?
A poor life this if, full of care,

Thats an interesting place Sandy. Looks a bit like the Great Plains area over here. Not so green on this side and a little more desert like. Still Landscape of our earth has lots of similarities no matter where you are. lots of compatibles on every continent.
Hi Jim, The rock formations on Dartmoor are very old and weathered, an amazing landscape for sure and I agree with what you say, just the weather is a bit different by the sound of things:)
I miss your adventures with Simon and Ant. How are they doing?
I occasionally hear from them in the comments but not met up with them since covid times.
Great vid Sandy Chris Townsend was my inspiration to get out there walking and wild camping. You definitely had a mix of weather but stuck with it and was rewarded in the end. Thanks for taking us along.
Chris Townsend is a living legend in my book:)
Love the portable table washer 😅🐕
Hahaa :)
Shame it was so cold for your June wildcamping, but those warm 🪶🪶sleep boots look Ace. A chilled packup morning. And a solo pilgrimage up to The Tor. At One with nature, The Heavens and Earth all around. Skylarks sing on the winds. Thanks to Tony for the Trip for you both and sharing it all with us Sandy.
Thanks Rosa, you summed up this video rather well:)
Good to see you back out on the Moor Sandy and more importantly that your hips held out. Cheers.
Hi Elliot, it's my right hip that causes me jip sometimes, but it held up very well, just a little aching. I've been doing a lot of cycling these last few months and I believe that has help me a lot. I don't get any hip pain whatsoever when riding a pushbike:)
The Jet Stream is too far south at the moment, that's most likely the problem with the weather.
Yup that makes more sense to me, weather patterns and is it El Nineo again soon?
Your pulling our legs, you filmed this back in the Winter😂
Looks like it for sure!
Love this stormy camp!
I want to add that I much prefer your tent, Sandy. Tony's has the extra room, but I think a floor is essential. Yours is a very snug and cozy set-up. 👍
@@barbn1211 when the weather is really bad I think I would prefer a tent too but there is some nice to about being able to look at and feel the breeze
Great camp sandy , are you sure this was filmed in June 😂 it’s been bloody awful weather that’s for sure so far this month !!
Hahaa yes Dave, definitely June in the middle of Winter and not December in the middle of Summer:)
Superb video Sandy!! But do take care with the water. Ive had two bladder infections which one was definitely contaminated water. Painful and when you pee its like a cheap bottle of red Tescos wine.😅
Where was the water? How do you know it was "definitely" the water? If it was high in the hills more likely something else, were you solo or sharing food and utensils? Had you eaten something? Have you googled water mountains scotland etc? Check it out, the gov website says mountain water - usually - safe to drink. I guess that a one in a thousand chance you got unlucky. But it probably was at least a one in thousand chance it was the water.... Read Chris Townsend Book the Backpackers Handbook, a whole section is on the subject.
@TonyHobbs it was in Italy Tony. I'm in Austria and the water here is also drinking quality. I just wanted to point out to Sandy how nasty infections are. Mine was either from swimming in the sea in Italy or from the swimming pool so the Doc thought at the time. Water here in Austria in the mountains and most lakes is pure, but you only need a dead rat or something to possibly contamint the water source. Boil it first is always best unless your sure. We have up the road from me an underground spring which dates back to medival times. Water is beautiful and regularly tested by the local council. People fill up their bottles by the gallon.
@paulhunt1072 hi Paul thanks for reply. Ah yeah those water sources could potentially cause an issue esp pool if not fully maintained. I've had terrible trouble in Kenya lol holidays 😅 not lion hiking. I guess there is a tiny risk but in hills it's tiny. Absolutely many will feel safer happier boiling filtering etc. And for peace of mind. But once switch I can't ever see myself going back... up in hills... as long as looks and feels safe. Re dead animals if ya see it move up stream. If can't see it you'll probably never know.... I popped comment on another below on this I remember the third test group now... placebo tabs . All three showed exactly same results.
Great wee video mate. A nice and relaxing one.
Boy sandy, looks like your having an Australian winter over there at the moment. Hope you get the sunny days ahead. Enjoying your camps and your opportunity to chill out n relax a little.
It's certainly been a cool Summer so far
good vid non camping trip thanks lee
Hi Sandy, myself and my two boys where in the lake district a few years ago, when the summer got up to 37 degrees, we ran out of water. We were going up scarfell pike via greengable. We found two high water sources and filled up and it was the best water I've had in a long time. Given the poisons of fluoride, chlorine and chloramine and more in tap water, I think your right we have lost touch with the natural resources all around us.
Thanks for another video.
Absolutely Alistair, I am not concerned now to take water from above the human habitation line, there is a lot of fear mongering. Even a dead deer or sheep upstream will not do harm provided it is far enough away (how far I'm not sure but have heard 100 meters is safe) I would always check upstream and even better look for the source and gather water there, then you know for sure it will be safe and pure.
Wonderful Sandy..... I spent some time at Okehampton with the Army. Live firing/Escape and evasion/survival skills. That weather took me right back🤣KTF🙏
Hahaa yes the weather, a bit rough at times Marty, it's very exposed up there
Thank you Sandy for another excellent video, with all the different content such a delight to watch your channel , so interesting . Regards Roy (oz)
Glad you enjoyed it Roy
Great video of you both in the wilderness. My grandad use to get us go drink from the streams in Wales and the Lake district when we’re on holiday as children. It was so fresh.
I think a lot of people these days have a lower immune system because everything is so sanitised Anne, the water I drank in this video has caused me zero ill effects
What beautiful remote country, I can imagine how good it would be in fine weather. Fantastic video. Your new camera is a game changer
I like the insta 360 it is great at capturing landscapes and putting the user in the landscape
I live in a very similar environment. They call this the Forest of Bowland but Forest as meant in the term of being a former royal hunting ground. The moors have many birds that get bopped off by chaps and chapesses with guns in that season. There are lots of deer and plenty of foxes I'm glad to say; I've only ever seen 2 badgers but they were making a recce of a local village churchyard I passed through during the night - i had pitched up with permission from the priest. I've seen a few hedgehogs flat and living.
Glad you had fun mate, it's always the silly things that are important. stay safe and enjoy the cold June.
BBrrrr The coldest June I've experienced so far Dave
Sandy water probably better than what water company supply hope hip held up. Great scenery. 😊
Yes Andy I think so
Always good to see you snug in the rain of evening, just spent a day alone on my ocal mooland hope to upload tomorrow or Wednesday. Take care and keep going Sandy. Harry
I shall look forward to your video Harry:)
@@WiltshireMan Finding opportunities to sleep rough in the outdoors is hard given our health limitations these days, my outings seem more scouting and cooking at present, however, the prospect of a tube celebrity dropping by if ever in South Scotland this year or next, if even only a casual idea is greatly uplifting and gives a sense of authebticutyvti all my small efforts and endeavours. Thank you for such a compliment. Stay well and safe 🙏 Harry and Helen n dogs. 🙂🙂🙂
Great camp that, even with the rough weather, reminded me of the old days when you went on the moors with Simon and Ant! The WH Davies poem called Leisure is the one you were thinking of.
Thats right Oscar, Yes had some good camps with Si and Ant, not seen them since the lockdowns though
G'day Sandy, I've been drinking from streams and rivers for 50+ years and my water supply comes from rain on the roof and into water tanks. The gut builds up an immunity to all the bugs. Have had many tests done on the bowel and gut and all is well. I live in rural NZ and therefore not on town supply. Enjoyed the video. ATB Cheers from the mountains of NZ 😀
It's possible that too many folk these days have lost some resilience due to the sanitised water and conditions in which they live. I'm sure our gut build immunity to certain bugs for sure. I've heard a lot of Westerners who go on holiday to India will get Delhi belly because of just not used to the food and bacteria there!
Great video loved that spot so beautiful. The weather is terrible this year not had very much paragliding at all
Great video 👍
What a beautifully put together video 😊 thanks for sharing with me. Nicely edited and great commentary. Loved the water thoughts quite right. All but zero risk with water there.
From now on Tony I shall drink the water above human habitation with impunity:) It's nice to know simple truths like this, saves weight and faffing about wasting precious fuel boiling already safe enough to drink water:)
@WiltshireMan good to finally hear a little common sense vs the fear mongering from pretty much everyone else. It'll be an interesting topic in the comments... I see one already .... I'll probably pop my oar in here occasionally. A couple interesting sources are Chris Townsend Backpackers Handbook he has a whole section on this plus simply Google drinking mountain water Scotland or something like that.... a government website lays it out.... if the water up there is good enough to drink our English and Welsh water more than good enough . But let's not let marketing and poor word of mouth get in the way of a good drink of mountain water or moorland water. Good to see you not discouraged by the dead sheep .... as many will try to point out.... what people need to understand is 99% of time it's poor hygiene and sharing snack foods hands in others snack pack etc. My no rule is I never share or eat offered food or sweets. Particularly opened ones. But again blaming the water is too easy 😉 and all you'll hear for poorly tummies.
I need to get back to Dartmoor for sure. As for the weather you are right to come to the conclusion that the weather is being messed with. The Met Office recently admitted to "weather modification". The UAE are very much into it and look what happened recently in Dubai - a years rainfall in 24 hours.
They are playing with stuff they don't fully understand I reckon
@@WiltshireMan 100%
Some unforgiving terrain for sure sandy, looks just like the Falklands. You’re right about the weather it’s so cold for the time of the year. We had a huge thunder and massive hail storm yesterday it was nuts ! We are in June ! What is going on 🌧️😳😳😳👍♥️😉
Weird weather for sure Marcus, I can see why the military use Okehampton it is very unforgiving
A good cheap meal sandy is boil some long grain rice once cooked add a hot cup a soup and mix in the rice, you can add some chopped pepper tomato and spam, very cheap and filling
Thats a great tip Lewis, thanks for sharing that :)
Lovely compliment near end 😊 the cheque should arrive soon 😂
Hahaaa, it was great to camp with you Tony and I really mean that:) I think I shall buy some Innov8 shoes, I can see the advantage of them over heavy boots that stay waterlogged once soaked!
@WiltshireMan we will have to get you down this way again 😀 inov8 are excellent 👌 loads to choose from .
@@TonyHobbs I'll take you up on that offer, next time I'll pay the petrol costs, I'll also take my lanshan 2 instead of the smaller tent or maybe get an MLD Trail star:)
@WiltshireMan sounds great plans we can absolutely arrange plus we both fairly flexible to facilitate
Funny thing to say about Dartmoor Sandy : 'It doesn't take prisoners'.
Hahaaa, I did have Porridge for breakfast
Just as soon as the Azores High pushes the jet stream north of us, we'll get some decent weather. Might have to wait until next year, though!!
Still a good trip, and Tony seems really easy going. Definitely somewhere I'd like to hike and camp.
Definitely a strange summer so far Steve, Cold and wet but today as I type this the sun has been strong. It's an el nino year I believe
😁😁😁😁😁😁😁
I swear I could hear the other chap saying 'steady', every few minutes.
Good question, don't think so....
Its possible as I did copy and paste what I thought was a clear piece of audio to overlay over the bad audio from the 360 camera. Unfortunately my hearing is not very good and I couldn't hear anything untoward
It's great to see you in Dartmoor Sandy, 🐑 🐏 ☁️ 😶🌫️ Then camping socks are fabulous, I have a pair in Red, My hubby wants to know where did you get your cap 🧢 from?
Hi Angela, It's a North face cap, given to me as a gift:)
@@WiltshireMan TY. We will Google for one. ⛑️
I live on moors im out again soon video out by end of week
Most filters won't take out the heavy metals you mentioned anyway. Personally I still filter water when I'm on Dartmoor as there are so many sheep, horses and cattle there and I don't want to catch eColi but each to their own.
I think most filters won't even filter viruses. If you take water from a "short" stream close to it's source you'll be pretty sure its good wholesome water
You could take your bike on the train, I think they don't charge for bikes.
Enjoyed this video very much. What are those white patches on the rocks? Thanks
Hi Leroy, I think they are Lichen. Thanks for watching:)
Curious 🧐 Sandy, did you manage to dry your clothes during your hike? If so how in such a small shelter? After having wet feet did you use a powder to dry off? Sorry so many questions but just curious. As for the weather, in Sussex it’s been awful. Cold & wet, endless rain. They’re defiantly geo engineering something in the higher atmosphere. I think this trip did wonders for your spirit, nice gentle hiking to keep the soul recharged.
Hi Andy I just rubbed my feet dry using a camp towel, as for clothing, I always wear agast drying thin trousers and top, gets wet really quick but dries quick with just body warmth
The Wiltshire man is the man love his camping adventure's I would like to see him taking his air rifle out on some of his permissions camping spots just love the man and his camping mates God bless them all ❤🙏♥️
The are absolutely messing with the weather Sandy. Its only ever sunny on a weekend if ever. There is sun usually at sunrise but by breakfast time its gone in the week. The technology is there to create cloud.
Try 11.30 lol
I got a new mic one of my videos couldn't hear but should be OK now
I think they are messing around with the weather and if so it’s not a good idea!
Weres ur cover fr back pack sandy
I don't use one, instead have everything inside a dry bag in the rucksack and the sleeping bag was in another drysack of its own so double protected. In my experience dry bags work better than rain covers which can be blown off the pack by the wind
Please filter your water Sandy we don’t want you to get sick, being selfish we really enjoy your show too much, you don’t know what sheep or other animals have done upstream that’s probably their only source of water, plus less educated people in the outdoors might follow your example and drink straight out of the streams
What does Lassie carry?
I think just her food David
@@WiltshireMan yes just her food this time. Occasionally her groundsheet, but she so rarely uses it I only take it if very cold, it was useful for chucking my rubbish bags in though lol
Drinking any water straight out of any stream in the uk in today’s world is unwise . But it is ofcourse your choice- DYOR I guess
Thats right Rob Do your own research, we were well above any human habitation and the stream I sourced my water from was a short stream that we walked along on way to camp.
@@WiltshireMan correct, what was above that one? All but nothing bar rocks and vegetation and pretty much inhospitable to livestock although we saw a skeleton around that area,by time anything go to you it would have been filtered by the land a million times
Is that before or after you had e coli Sandy? I take your point about we always did it in the past.
This was after the infection, I'm not sure the infection I had was waterborne as had been a little run down and not sleeping well for some time so I personally believe it was due to low immune system
@@WiltshireMan e coli does seem to be everywhere at the moment. Great video, really like your camping episodes.
Great video. Why does someone keep saying “spec” in the background in a lot of the film?
I think you'll find it's actually "spey he he he"
Why is he saying it over and over?
My only guess is that Sandy did it accidentally.
Not sure what your hearing Tom, the one unfortunate thing is I have no hearing in my left ear and I've lost all high frequencies in my right. I did overlay some audio from a track to cover up the aweful audio from the 360 camera and maybe it's that which your hearing, either way unfortunately I cannot hear what your hearing!
@@WiltshireManI think you have used a bit of atmos sound and played it over and over. The words I can hear must be in that looping clip. No big deal, just wondered!
You did say you’d get comments, but aren’t you already fighting off a variety of infections ? Look after yourself mate 😊
I'm a lot better now but as we get older the immune system isn't as good as it once was I feel. As for the water it was lovely, we did check up stream which wasn't difficult because it was just a short feeder brook that we actually walked down on our way to camp. Nothing to pollute the water
Were you feeling a little cross, Sandy?
What on earth gives you that impression?
@@WiltshireMan 35:34
😂@@BigGoucho
Hahaa now I understand:)
👍👍🌹🌹❤❤🌷🌷👌👌
Looked like a decent flow, I doubt you'd get anything from livestock...and there's no sign of dead sheep 🤣🐑
I think we forget...but we're not stoneage men...who lived to the grand old age of 28-33 years...guess what they died from...🤔
I doubt they died from water born illnesses, maybe some did, but generally back then there was no hospital or Dr's, an injury would fester and that would be that
@@WiltshireMan 75% of deaths were caused by infection, including diarrheal diseases that resulted in dehydration and starvation, so they probably learned which sources were safe by experimentation (ie not dying from crapping themselves). After all, there's a reason we drank from wells and springs. Add roaming livestock into the mix and you're free to take your chances with e-coli 👍
Its called Geoengineering Sandy. They are spraying the skies to reflect the suns heat back out to space. Also creating all this rain!! Who game them permission???
It sounds wrong to me Colin, they should not do it
Oh dear
@@TrainDriverRob One must keep an open mind Rob, the Met office released a video about how the weather has been manipulated by spraying clouds to increase their whiteness to reflect solar energy and a few other things : th-cam.com/video/5n-Jj92iv-o/w-d-xo.htmlsi=12ROzkR0gcKg4qaz
Great trip, Sandy. Funny enough, just last week I asked Si when you guys would get together again and he replied it's a long way for you to travel. 🙂👍🏕️😇
In total it's about 4.5 hours if the roads are good. Once a few years ago I left home at 8am and didn't get to the moor until 6 pm, the traffic was horrendous and it really put me off!
❤ ... your right about the weather
The MET office says June is the warmest December on record... !!!!!
The same MET that struggle to accurately predict the weather in my area for the next 6 hours.
I think it was May actually. And no it wasn't. They are gaslighting us.
Santa will be out on his sleigh very soon Bry:) The Met office made themselves a laughing stock with what they said about last months weather and May being the hottest ever recorded. Do they think we are stupid? Obviously they do!
Was this filmed before you had E- Coli? Hope your feeling better now..
Much better now thanks Jennifer, this was filmed just a couple of days ago
2 guys worth watching! I’ll save this to watch on my tv later!
Great to see you in Dartmoor Sandy, again a great video mate, can’t wait for the next one 👍👍👍👍🏆

Thats the poem, marvellous aint it:)
@@WiltshireMan aye, came across it years ago. As my work life just seems to get busier, I try to carry this Idea over to the camping and motorcycling part of my life at least.
Sandy,
The cold and wet made it look miserable to me, accept when it wasn't.
I take hiking and walking stuff on my bike no problems Honda VFR800. Took my hiking gear when I went to the Picos de Europa in Spain start of May. Did some awesome walks. I would have thought you'd easily be able to carry all your gear on your V-Strom.
The poem you are thinking of is Leisure by Welsh poet William Henry Davies.
What is this life if, full of care,
We have no time to stand and stare?-
No time to stand beneath the boughs,
And stare as long as sheep and cows:
No time to see, when woods we pass,

No time to see, in broad daylight,
Streams full of stars, like skies at night:
No time to turn at Beauty's glance,
And watch her feet, how they can dance:

Its a lovely poem that Alex:)
@@WiltshireMan Indeed it is Sandy. Thanks for reminding me of it. A+++.
PS Yes I can carry the gear fine but I don't like leaving the bike, they are more vulnerable to theft and tampering than a car
@@WiltshireMan Yep sadly they are Sandy. What I did was leave the bulk of my gear at the campsite in my tent, possibly risky, lock all my valuables in my bike panniers and then head off taking obvious things like my wallet, passport, phone and power bank plus hiking gear with me. If riding to a hiking area, I change when there and leave my biking gear in my panniers and top box. Of course bike has disc locks and D-locks to help prevent theft. I don't leave anything strapped to my bike, everything is locked away. Seems to have worked ok up until now. I even carry walking poles on my bike no problem. They go either in the dry bag with protection on the pointy tip or sandwiched in my folding foam mattress. Works quite well. Hiking and biking seems a good mix. Like you I need exercise, I can't ride like some can for hour after hour days on end. I soon feel very crappy and cranky.
Got to keep active and healthy, sadly being on a motorcycle is not active enough for me. Like you cycling as well. When I am sitting in the saddles of my bicycles there is no other place I'd rather be not even on a motorcycle, but I love riding motorcycles too. Dilemma.
So love your videos. You are looking very healthy these days. Good on you. Use it or lose it.
You have full luggage for your V-Strom don't you?
Did you sell your car? I remember you didn't run it for a bit as you said you couldn't justify the high cost for what use you got out of it?
ATB.
Good to see you fit again Sandy and having an enjoyable trip in spite of the weather. I thought global warming was all about a general increase in temperatures but maybe not applicable to Dartmoor 😂. I'm lucky to live within half-an-hour's drive to Dartmoor so have walked a lot of it on my own and can understand the enjoyment of trying a solo stretch. The Trailstar gives you a lot of living space and plenty of ventilation but unfortunately no protection against the midges and your tent would be my preference in the very wet conditions. Regards Keith
I would also want more midge protection, my tent was fine but I was wishing for a bit more space, I may take my Lanshan 2 next time, will have best of both worlds then. Tony does have an inner mesh for his trail star if midges are bad
Hexamid tent?
