  • A kayak camping adventure on the Devils river, one of the most remote and pristine rivers in Texas. Fed by crystal clear spring water and surrounded by spectacular cliff faces, it is an amazing place!
Watch as we kayak 33 miles from Baker's crossing to Pafford's crossing, showing drone footage of Dolan's Falls, Three Tier Rapid, Dandridge Falls and the beautiful canyons and caribbean blue water along the way.

We did four days and 3 nights earlier this year. Aside from quite a bit of walking and dragging the yak in shallow water (over rocks and boulders that are somehow both slippery and shin scarring sharp) it was about the most beautiful stretch in Texas. It was on my bucket list for more than a decade and glad I finally got the opportunity as it has gotten more challenging to get on the river.

A ranch hand from the Devils River area told me a "wopper" of a snake story one day at Loma Alta. He was all night fishing at Devils River State Park. He left the river canyon the pre dawn driving up the dirt road. He topped out when he noticed a huge post in the road which he decreed was moving. At one point, the slowly moving diamond back stretched across the road. He stopped and got out of his pick up to find a large rock along the road side; all the while, the snake was making toward the dark. He found the rock then noticed the size of the serpent coupled with the limited visibility of the head lamps which made him reflect: what am I doing ? " He said to himself referring back to girth of the Rattler! So there you go. Every garden of eden has a serpent! Thanks for the excellent video.

what a brutal and beautiful journey. we did the full 47 miles an it was epic. we got done a day early and had to wait for the water taxi so spent a whole day hiking bluffs and exploring caves. little dragging no walking at all, i didnt even flip over at all, everyone else did though. we found one piece of trash that was it. so who ever lost there coconut sparkling water can , i got your back.

Man, I want to be on this river! Excellent footage! I'm a chick but none of my friends are up to go from Houston and kayak fish/camp with me. They're scared of the rapids & rattlesnakes. I'm going anyway and hook up with Fatties on the Fly.

My buddy and I did this last month on 21st to 23rd but a unexpected cold front bringing low 30s temps caused us to take out at the paddlers camp before Dolan Falls. Bring good water shoes, kayak leash, WAG bags you must bring and use. Also I would bring a extra paddle and some repair kit for the kayak too. Be prepared to do some walking though. Some rough rocks out their. It was fun though. We can't wait to return when the river flow and weather is much warmer to do the entire trip.

Johnny has a good list started.
In addition for recommended: Jet boil stove for coffee and heating water for freeze dried food. Pump in case kayaks take on water.
