In this video we will explain how to remove and replace the variable timing camshaft gear / vvt sprocket on Mazda with 2.3 Turbo Engine. If you need help with installing the vvt timing gear sprocket. We explained how to remove and replace camshaft sprocket gear on Mazda CX-7 but it should work on MazdaSpeed 3 and Mazda speed 6 with the 2.3 turbo disi engine since they all share the same engine.

The 2.5 chain , vvt and other sprockets are a good upgrade over the 2.3

I don't understand why vvt has to be aligned - is it not just a friction washer timed with the cam lock at the end? How do you align a new VVT?

Not able to understand what is being said when the vvt phaser is being removed about how the "teeth are aligned." Showed the mark on the front but didn't say what it is supposed to be aligned with?? Just said the one raised surface on the back is supposed to be up but there are about four of those on the back so there's no way to identify which one on a new one.

hello i have cx7 2008 suddenly i had noise timing chain code p0016 so i changed the oil the chain spocket timing selenoid the spark plugs and the tensioner i still have the code p0016 cold start after a minute i reset the code no code please help me

what does the vvt actuator need to be aligned with? the other cam sprocket or what?

The camshafts and crank need to be locked in place. You can see the plate they use on the rear of the cams. Sprocket itself can be any orientation but the chain between the 2 sprockets should not be slack and the notchs in the centre should be aligned.

Question; does the VVT/sprocket supposed to have a slight rotation play in it back and forth, say 1-2mm of play ?
Or no play at all?

No . It shouldn’t have eny play ..... it should only move with oil pressure !!!!

Michael and Mindi St. John well the thing is thag if the pin is in theor and under tension it might move abit like 1mm .... but no more them one or nome at all .... if it moves alot its ther lose or the pin in ther got lose ....
