The first time I heard this song in the album I suddenly found myself crying. It's hard to explain to people what blind guardian are capable of with words and music. Maybe I will say they are true bards, but still it's not enough. You can feel the passion they put in storytelling, Hansi poetry is of another level, the music is outstanding. There's no one as intense as they can be. Amazing!!
Well the story is from Silmarillion and Children of Húrin (J.R.R. Tolkien) as is the entire Nightfall in Middle Earth album (this is the last song in the album - a bonus track). So really you should attribute the storytelling to Tolkien, however this song is amazing nontheless. I am exactly at the part in Children of Húrin where Niniel marries Túrin so this song keeps going through my head all the time.
Brother, I understand. I’ve come back to this song for basically 2 decades and it always plays strong on the emotions. It helps that Blind Guardian is one of my absolute favorite bands ever. But this song gets me. It hits hard especially when you need it. Cheers.
She is gone Leaves are falling down The tear maiden will not return The seal of oblivion is broken And a pure love's been turned into sin At the dawn of our living time Hope may cover all cries Truth lurks hidden in the shadows Dreams might be filled with lies Soon there will be light Pain remains inside Suddenly it seemed so clear All the blindness was taken away She closed her eyes And she called out my name She was never ever seen again Harvest of Sorrow Your seed is grown In a frozen world full of cries When the ray of life shrinks Shall cold winter nights begin She is gone And I fall from grace No healing charm covers my wounds Fooled's the dawn And so am I Fooled by life and a bitter doom To bring you the end of the day At the dawn of our living time Hope it soon will pass by Facing a darkness I stand alone
This song hypnotizes me... My heart slows and the spirit travels to unknown places, which, somehow, are so familiar... It calms me and makes me happy...
A movie about Túrin would kick major ass... with this song playing in the credits it would be downright legendary. And wait -- when the credits are done, Varda setting up the Swordsman of the Sky. For dramatic effect the title should be TURAMBAR.
it's like my heart is being squeezed when i listen to this song. it's so beautiful. and Hansi is also beautiful here. every night i fall asleep listening to this song and i have the most colorful dreams.
hansi my singin idol, i never saw someone like him could fly high specially the fiddler on the green song the part in the end.. i got so many high notes but not the one wooow :( :P
@CornAndKorn While I agree that most death metal bands can't compare to Blind Guardian, I don't think it's fair to simply dismiss them because they choose to grunt. The grunting contributes to the atmosphere of that music. I don't think that you can just dismiss say Opeth can't compare to blind guardian because they growl. There are many power metal bands that can't hold a candle to blind guardian, and can't hold a candle to death metal bands.
@MagnumCrackoff My view on music isn't "retarded", I just don't enjoy death growls because half of the time it's hard to understand what they're saying. I actually listened to Opeth as you suggested, and they're not that bad, but as I had expected, much of it was just death growls. I'm not saying that bands like them are bad, but they will never be able to hold a candle to Blind Guardian.
@PerfeckteDroge So, something like, "GRRRUUUUUUUUUUUGGHHHNNNNNNGGH" is beautiful to you? What the hell is going on in your head? Blind Guardian = Amazing. Any death growl/screamo/incomprehensible grunts = not music. at all.
Hansi is a perfect example of why technical precision is less important than style and artistry. Dude hits some pretty sour notes in this performance, but it's still so powerful. Same principle applies to Warrel Dane.
If fact he was ill here. If you compare this performance with any of A night at the Opera Tour, you will see the difference. Since the beginning of past decade, he became a good singer talking about technical habilities too. Anyway, this performance is not perfect, but he reached most of the notes properly.

@@egonieser yes but its not only the story ;)

@@prehistoricgentlemanbird9131 so I have😁
If children of hurin ever gets a live action, this song needs to be the credits to spice up our tears
She is gone
Leaves are falling down
The tear maiden will not return
The seal of oblivion is broken
And a pure love's been turned into sin
At the dawn of our living time
Hope may cover all cries
Truth lurks hidden in the shadows
Dreams might be filled with lies
Soon there will be light
Pain remains inside
Suddenly it seemed so clear
All the blindness was taken away
She closed her eyes
And she called out my name
She was never ever seen again
Harvest of Sorrow
Your seed is grown
In a frozen world full of cries
When the ray of life shrinks
Shall cold winter nights begin
She is gone
And I fall from grace
No healing charm covers my wounds
Fooled's the dawn
And so am I
Fooled by life and a bitter doom
To bring you the end of the day
At the dawn of our living time
Hope it soon will pass by
Facing a darkness
I stand alone
O Túrin Turambar; your grief will be hearkened forevermore.
This song hypnotizes me... My heart slows and the spirit travels to unknown places, which, somehow, are so familiar... It calms me and makes me happy...
I love Blind Guardian , best Band
This band makes great and original music I love it,one of the best band of this century indeed.harvest of sorrow thumbs up
This band is incredible I just started getting into their stuff and its great!!
A movie about Túrin would kick major ass... with this song playing in the credits it would be downright legendary. And wait -- when the credits are done, Varda setting up the Swordsman of the Sky. For dramatic effect the title should be TURAMBAR.
Wunderschöne, zeitlose Metal-Ballade! *.*
Beautiful, timeless Metal ballad! ;-)
Blind Guardian is and will be immortal. Nothing else to say.

this..this is perfect... absolutly perfect.
blind guardian is the best band ever, nothing will change my mind about it
Hansi was ILL this show and still he ruled! \m/
With this video I realized that metal is not about distortion and speed.
Metal is about the power of your soul in a song.
This is actually my number one favorite song above all as well.
hansi my singin idol, i never saw someone like him could fly high specially the fiddler on the green song the part in the end.. i got so many high notes but not the one wooow :( :P
I'm pretty sure Hansi was ill when this was recorded and he still sounds amazing
When he shifts into overdrive it's like "holy shit"... Incredibly powerful.
He was, in fact
perfect!
@MasterandDoctor
Blind Guardian is started like speed metal band . And like great speed metal band, listen Fallow the Blind album and Batalons of Fear
Queen is awesome. I'm listening to Queen now, in fact.
This is a very poetic song; I'm most definitely getting inspired to write a poem with such stunning lyrics and voices...
Beautiful !!!

Is this video available in HD? BTW thanks for upload!
BG has that effect on people.
Skalds and shadows
@Scaar81 thing is, metallica's song is called Harvester of sorrow, not harvest
Blind Guardian isn't a band. Blind Guardian is THE band.
@MasterandDoctor because for this, you need a voice. And not everybody have the Hansi's voice.
oh man howd you get the AOL sessions videos?
@CornAndKorn While I agree that most death metal bands can't compare to Blind Guardian, I don't think it's fair to simply dismiss them because they choose to grunt. @kirbyismrtwat well you have the best "heavy" metal band and we in germany have the best "power" metal band ;)
For Noldor!!!
@taokhen actually you in germany have all the best power metal bands: blind guardian, halloween, gamma ray...
dude, you live in the UK. please.
bump
@MadFable1 yeah, it was a troll comment
Nienor is died :( oooh Turin Turambar
@MagnumCrackoff My view on music isn't "retarded", I just don't enjoy death growls because half of the time it's hard to understand what they're saying. @MasterandDoctor ridiculous comment blind guardian is great so is dimmu so is behemoth that death growl can be just as beautiful
@PerfeckteDroge
So, something like, "GRRRUUUUUUUUUUUGGHHHNNNNNNGGH" is beautiful to you?
What the hell is going on in your head?
Blind Guardian = Amazing.
Any death growl/screamo/incomprehensible grunts = not music. at all.
Harvest is better hands down
rofl i thought this was "harvester of sorrow" which was written by metallica lol...
hansi looks kinda tired and sick
@guardianofstupid Actually not. The londen power metal band DragonForce is very good. Too bad the singer stopped recently.
blind guardian is an institution, not a band
nope.
Queen is THE BAND.
no Queen no Blind Guardian : )
however they are great.
@SergeantDrall seriouslly...dragonforce...they suck.
