- If you ask someone in India if they’ve seen “Dilwale Dulhania Le Jayenge”-or DDLJ for short-chances are you’ll get a yes. The movie is an iconic part of Indian cinema, and has changed rom-coms forever. It’s so beloved that it has screened every day, for the past 24+ years, at the Maratha Mandir theater in Mumbai. What makes this movie so special? Great Big Story senior producer Beryl Shereshewsky went to the movies in Mumbai to experience it for herself. Strap in for forbidden love, fight scenes, dances in fields, and lots and lots of singing.

@@dostoevskygirly The main characters of Titanic are totally fictional, there have been better movies about that "historical event" than that one, also the two leads have absolutely no chemistry...that is to say, they were not believable to me as a romantic couple. Shahrukh and Kajol have so much chemistry that they went on to make what...six more movies together.
For those who are being mad about her saying "it's India's version of the Titanic", she's not saying that Titanic came first or anything like that, she's putting into perspective how big of an impact culturally the movie has. Titanic is a good reference point because it's a blockbuster known everywhere. It's like saying Star Wars. Even people who don't watch Star Wars at least knows what it is. Referencing the Titanic has always been relevant even when not talking about movies.

Titanic came after DDLJ, 2 years later. But still these people think that DDLJ is a version of Titanic. What a shameless class of people with a habit of claiming origin of everything to own. No doubt Titanic is one of the finest films in the history of cinema. I would even say its far better than DDLJ, But saying it is a version of Titanic, shows how people in the west likes to claim everything to their own. Its like everything originated from them, like they built pyramids, they built Indus valley civilization, they built the great wall, they built first paper, they started oldest religion blah blah blah.... I think they didn't ment it literally as an equivalent. They probably just wanted to compare this movies fame. So it doesn't matter which one is older. But your general critic of the west-centric-norm is absolutely justified through.

True, they are like Hindi version of anime... especially the romance and fight scenes!
Malaysians do have weird taste of movies
I don't remember ever watching the entirety of this movie in one sitting, for me it was one of those movies that were *always* on (on TV) back in the day.
Me too
Same here. The only thing i like this movie is its songs.
DDLJ was the first Hindi film I ever saw and I fell in love.
im from singapore and once or twice a week I can see my grandma watching the movie and singing along like its tradition
*Projectionist:* I feel strongly that 95% of Indians have watched this movie.
*Indians:* _You underestimate us._
Okay so I started my Bollywood appreciation 10 years ago after watching “My Name is Khan” 3+ hours of movie PERFECTION. It was so good that I had to share it with everyone I know. EVERYONE I know whos watched it was blown tf away. To this day it’s the best movie I have ever friggin seen. Kajol and Shah Rukh Khan are unbelievable together. And I’m Latina so we also have a flare for the dramatic. Bollywood is no joke, their cinema is incredible.
I know how much Latino people like Bollywood..from the Ranveer singh song videos 😊😊😂
How do u understand Hindi?
Too bad people are intimidated by subtitles and therefore miss an entire world of cinema
Honestly the best movie I’ve ever seen is teen titans go to the movies and I know it’s an animated movie but it was so freakin good
Truly..."my name is khan" is really mindblowing.... It's taught you there is no religion bigger then humanity!!!!😊
the way the first guy said yes when they were asking ppl if they’ve seen it was super soothing lol
Such a cool concept, I want more older movies to be projected in cinemas once again.
Having watched it for 9000 times and he can still say "my favourite scene is..."
Not only Indian people
Bangladeshi 99% people watched this movie also
😅😅😅😅🤣✌️
Even if you haven't seen the movie you somehow know the songs lol
Thank god I'm in the 1% population..

This is like one of those movies which has to be seen by every Indian. Kind of like Star Wars
I haven't watched it yet. Nor I am planning to. And that goes for Star Wars too. 😂
@@islandsunset i haven't watched star wars too :3
Well as an Indian guy, I love both SW and DDLJ. And yes I hated TROS if anyone cares
At least with this one, you only have to watch one movie to get the hype
@@chawrakaxom559 tros?
As an indian it gave me anxiety When you said "dilwale dulhania le jayenge"
No shit... I feel the same like they would puke next moment if they would need to speak a lil more Hindi 😂😂
Ok don't be mad when people make fun of your English
@@frohan007 you are stating that fact like they don't do it...
@@abhaysingh8345 what?

@@ritsuafk I have seen this movie once, and then only few times like little movie scenes. But know the songs. But ask me any marvel movie and I'll know the dialogues by heart lol.
@@Dimple3 Hello brother , I am in a similar situation here .
I’ve seen this movie twice w/ my dad! He used to love the traditional Bollywood musical numbers!
