- Time to get off my fat arse and review the AMX .mle 48 now that I've field tested it extensively with both the 100mm and 120mm guns. Is there light at the end of the mostly horrible tunnel for French Tank Destroyer drivers?

Saw one of these in my Deathstar the other day. Poor dude tried to run but he knew the game was over for him...
His crew started to panic, this must've been what the other crews were talking about earlier. Rumors had drifted over the channel that the British were working on a "super" tank. They all laughed but in the back of their minds they knew if this was real, Britain would invade easier than Germany had a few years before. The French themselves were driving a prototype, the AMX AC .mle 1948, and were still cleaning up any remaining Nazis holding out on the outskirts of France. Something seemed weird that day though. A unidentified British ship landing in Normandy with no radio communication. They decided to give the prototype a run to see how reliable it was in reality and not in some testing ground. It was around 8:30pm in October, the sun had just set but it was still a fairly warm, if a bit dark, evening. When they arrived however the boat was empty, no crew, no cargo, nothing. They searched around and found nothing apart from some gasoline and a couple 183mm shells. "Why would they be carrying 183mm shells" The crew wondered. As they drove through the countryside the commander was looking out of his hatch with his periscope when they saw, what they thought was, a silhouette of a tank. They'd never seen it before though, it didn't look like a Churchill or a Sherman or even a Tiger. They were on the outskirts of Paris when something rumbled over the hill to their right. The scrambled, looking, loading a shell into their gun but instead of the commander shouting out what tank it was, as he normally would, he stayed silent, recognising from the brief descriptions that crew members gave from blueprints that it was the Deathstar. They didn't even have time to radio out to the nearby military fort that it was real. A 183mm shell had been fired and penetrated the ammo rack, destroying the tank instantly and that is the first registered kill by the very Deathstar that went on to have 400+ tanks destroyed in Britains invasion of France of 1948.
Wouldn't be surprised if it did tbh....

No, I said you *can* if you're in a tight spot but you shouldn't count on it because depending on it will get you into trouble. But that never stopped people arguing with what I didn't say.
Me: "You can bounce tier 9 and 10 guns with the armour on this thing if you angle it, but relying on the armour all the time can get you into trouble because it only has 1000 health."
You: "That's bullshit, the armour on this thing won't even bounce tier 8 guns."
Me: "Well I manage it."
You: "You suck and can't play TDs."
Well that escalated quickly.

For me all of french TDs were perfect and I'm soon getting tier 8 which is in this video. So happy cant wait.

It will fail you if you try to play it like an armoured behemoth, I said this in the video. All it takes is three shots from anything in the kind of games it gets into and you're dead if they penetrate. It's a common failing of all tier TDs. But the AMX, like the JPII, can bounce shots that none of the other Tier 8s can because of the angling and sloping.
I like how the french even put a bullseye on the side for you to shoot at. Also the reason for the below average damage rolls I believe it's cuz it's you Jingles.

i just got my AMX 50 Foch today... it kicks ass like hell! Winning against a M103 on 300m distance without losing a single hp is just awsome!

I don't understand the "Borderline overpowered" part of this review. Was this before the patch that made accuracy irrelevant? The 48 still gets sniped in the cupolas and has no armor in general. I'm not sure if everyone plays with 100% premium ammo or what the case is, but bouncing equal tier tanks with the 48 happens so rarely, that each bounce deserves its own parade. :/
Oh and compared to the other Tier VIII TDs, it's not even close to being overpowered. Jagdpanther II, Ferdinand, ISU. They're all as good or better, I'd say.
The ISU has the noob cannon that requires no aiming and can almost one-shot the 48 on a good roll.
Ferdi actually bounces stuff, has 20% more hp and has a better gun imo.
JPII seems to bounce as well, but that's all down to sloping and agility I think. Don't count on it bouncing, but it does happen. The armor is kinda meh, but VERY sloped. And that German gun is just sweet and fires faster on JPII.

Still hating this POS. IS-3 pens you, T32 pens you, Tiger II pens you. And they all have ~75% more health than you and will see you across the map, since French stats are pure sci-fi. My IS-3 is a better sniper than my 48. It misses constantly and is a master of 0-dmg crits.
I think Jingles need to review tanks in solo play. The Platoon reviews are extremely skewed. Most people do not platoon with good players all the time, so they have to rely on random tomatoes for their backup. That fact alone completely destroys several tanks for me.
I enjoy the Centurion for example, but for solo play it's just garbage thanks to having no armor at all. You just can't carry unless the other team are afk or something. I don't fear solo Centurions either. I like the enemy having them, as they're usually just xp for your team.
The platooning completely changes things for a lot of tanks, so if everyone had pocket QB/Jedi/Circon/Foch/ikzor etc. people to platoon with all the time, I'm sure their tanks would look and perform a lot better as well.
I just can't recommend the AC Mle. 48 at all, and if they do decide to nerf the Foch 155, I'd recommend everyone to skip the French TD line completely. The Tier V bathtub is alright, but that's the only good one so far. :/

Gnawer Shreth Pretty much everything you said hit the nail on the head. The game is borderline unplayable now (imo ofc), what with the absurd Rhm. which essentially has a cloaking shield, GW tiger P and other dreamed up nonsense. In the rare game you get a game that is balanced, and in my experience, the AC can be a beast. Its a lot of fun in close quarters (if your flanks are safe) and the gun is a monster. Of course, none of that make a lick of difference when an Rhm can essentially one shot you with a gold round. From the front.
In my opinion, the Rhm and WT line after it should never have been added. Gold for credits completely ruined the game I would say.
Dude, can I play it for you? I just love anything high-alpha. The S35 CA is one of the few tanks I've genuinly had fun with, I literally felt like shit because I finished it in just 2 and a half hours.
Plus, I really want to get to try some higher tier tanks.
***** The Foch 155 was OP until it got nerfed hard in just about every way possible. It stopped being OP long before the two other TDs were added.
I'm not saying the TD is worthless. I'm saying that calling it borderline OP is ridiculous. Especially since this isn't even a review of the Foch 155. It's the mle 1948. It was never really OP and especially not today.
MrItaly92ful I use premium ammo as a substitute for shit that I can't hurt normally, like how it was used historically, and because I'm not a rich enough fk to just run around firing APCR and HEAT all the time. In that way, if you're carrying around 50 AP and 8 premium like I do, the credits system is nice because I don't use it all the damn time, I hardly ever use it in fact. But I do agree, there should really be a limit. I would say, at the highest, roughly one-fourth of the total shell capacity can be used for premium.

Jingles, the armor of the Jagdtiger and Jagdtiger 8.8 is only 250mm on the superstructure, the main hull is the same as the Tiger II's, which is 150mm. Even on level ground you'll pen him reliably, if you have a height advantage and are looking down on him, it'll go through like a hot knife through butter. You'll only need to aim for frontal weak spots if you can't pen 212mm, which is roughly how much the armor is worth at that slope. You'll have no troubles whatsoever.
Thanks so much for this video review Jingles. It just so happens that I just bought mine. I had to sell the 46 to help fund it though but I am enjoying it tremendously. The grind thru the French TD line is indeed my most "intense" memory of WoT.

100% Sixth Sense makes a lot of sense, anything less than 100% is a waste of crew xp, since it doesn't work at all until it's 100%. You get more bang for your buck if you use something that works from 1%-99%, then swap it for Sixth Sense when it reaches 100.
Jingles - as a French TD player. I can guarantee that the Foch and Foch 155 will be dream machines for you if you enjoyed the AMX AC mle 48. Foch especially in tier 9 games is really hard to crack at it's own tier without the help of a high pen (+270 AP) guns.
The foch 155 is pretty same deal as the tier 9 foch. Just bigger HP pool and handling characteristics.. But the gun.. If you hit and pen with all shots. You'll take out any tier 10 tank aside the German heavies / TD's
You'll love the FOCH, Jingles. It gets rid of the ass-turret, thicker front armor (though with a weak point to the right and below the gun mantlet) and better fire control.

Can I just say that I recently got the ARL V39, and I really enjoy it. Just use the 105mm, and boom, 200+ damage per shot. Mind you, it's still a grind, and it can't bounce worth anus, but hey, it's a fun machine for sniping when you get past the godawful tank part. Love the gun.
I've got it too, and I'm trying to get to the tier 7 as fast as possible, but the 105 mm is indee quite a nice gun for sniping people. Just stay far away, undetected and don't venture out on your own and you can do some serious damage
The French Tier III premium FCM 36 Pak 40 is a right terror on the battle field, whilst it is slow and has a narrow traverse the gun is awesome! Even when you have a bit of bad luck and get placed in a Tier V battle it can deal out some punishment. It has been a money earner for me!

I wish more people would look at the map. I played a game with an entire team that forgot what an Encounter battle is about. They all rushed for the "cap" on Mines and ignored the actual cap. When the enemy was capping, the ones that made it to where the standard battle cap should be, just sat there wondering why they weren't capping too.
I hate those people in chat who at first rage at you and when they cannot come up with anything else they turn to use their native language and think they are good when no one answers.

Do what QB often does: train repairs (or camo) to 100%; pick another skill (recon, for example) and train it to ~40% (it's actually somewhere just shy of 41%). Reset your commander's skills for CREDITS and choose Sixth Sense at 100%. You have to earn 111% as much XP as someone who pays gold or trains Sixth Sense from the get-go, but you get an increasingly useful skill for 100+ games instead of a worthless sub-100% perk.
When I play World of Tanks I don't have half the enemy team driving at full speed across open ground to be the first one to put a shot into me, I don't have half my screen covered in PMs that I can't ignore and it doesn't take five hours to get a match worth putting on TH-cam.
the FCM is so much fun. making KV-1's panic as you snipe them for 110 HP each hit is great.

Agreed. Also, if you don't want to spend gold for a skill reset, wait until you're at 40% on your second skill (again, choose a skill, not a perk). Then, you can reset for credits and have 100% on your first skill.
A little something for those that may not use gold...
Jingles the reason why i do not shoot at the AC Mle 48 with gold is that i never penetrate this tank with them i rather die trying to shoot the extremely small weak spots... and good luck hitting them!

Lots of people seem to say so, so now I feel more confident on trying them out. Quite difficult for me to test them on the Test Server though, since everyone fires gold there.
And I've managed to bounce KV-1S' 122mm with my Stug3's gun mantlet. ONCE.
Also, it's rather funny to hear somebody telling you about how great the armor is and then in the first battle in 30 seconds he's at 200 HP, like in the first replay. Well done...

WoT isn't just purely WW2 tanks, it's WW2 and some cold war era tanks. A variety of tanks from pretty much all the nations weren't even produced or had a built prototype, some were just designed and planned but never made.
I bought the foch 155 last weekend. It's my favourite tank now. Even makes money which is strange for a tier 10.

don't forget you will also have to choose tank type, not just nation. Heavies usually are the meat on the team (french are an exception). I prefer Mediums because they are more flexible in what they do. TDs are for the really big guns and ambush tactics (beware most of these don't have turrets). Arty for lang range support (this isn't as easy as some might have you believe). Think about what qualities you want most and then pick a branch from a nation.

I never bought my first premium account until I reached my first tier 8 tank the KV4. The first battle that I lost over 25k was a massive shock so I invested in a small amount of gold and bought a few days worth of premium. You don't have to buy it but it makes playing the higher tiers less painful.

This gives me something to look forward to, because the ARL 39 is next for me. But my favourite is the Renault UE 57, aka the riding mower.
Fact is I was surprised to see all 3 IS-3 right down that alley, so I first I wanted to retreat, then I realized I didn't have where or how, since I would have exposed my sides too much. Yeah that hill didn't help either but the fact still remains that if you think that this TD is able to RELIABLY bounce Tier 8 heavy shots (not counting higher tier heavies), perhaps you should be reminded that it's not a T28.

Hey, the UE57 is pretty nice too!
WG did something really stupid with the Model 1948. If you compare the actual blueprint with the in-game model, you'll notice that the rear AA turret is twice as big in the game as it should be!
with TDs, (esp non UK ones) stealth = not dead. Cammo is pretty much the #1 skill for TDs Lights & SPGs to own, and is still good for meds and heavies though they don't keep their bonuses as well.
*Best idea is 6th sense and JoTrades for CO, camo 1st all others; armorer great for gunner 2nd or snapshot, clutch breaking on driver, repairs on loader.
3rd set can put safe storage on loader with repairs 3rd all others. Just what works for you. *about 41% where can swap skills
Lol i love the KV-2 152 derp gun and the SU-100Y for 2 reasons 1. huge amount of damage 2. its just super fun to see people raging when they get 1 shotted :3

If that's thing was a real tank, it's a bad design, an anti aircraft turret on the back of the tank where the engine is, looking at how close the vents are to the turret itself, the man inside that turret is having a toasty toasty day.

Haha, i'm currently "grining"(doesn't feel like a grind) the 46 and it's awesome, getting ace tanker the same day I unlocked the 100mm on it and I can't wait to get my hands on the 48 and I plan todo so before the end of this month(since the 48 is discounted now)!
The French tend to be fast, poorly armoured, and have auto-loaders (clips instead of firing single shots at a time). The Russians are normally close range assault tanks and brawlers. The Germans and British are normally snipers/support tanks. The Americans are normally all-rounders. The Chinese are pretty much modified Russians, and play pretty much the same.
that is exactly what he said in his video. the replays where before 8.6 so at the time TD's where still being penalized
I just got the Fosh - same gun, faster firing, even better amazing frontal armor, same weakspots - 1 the turret at the back, same speed and mobility, +500hp. It's even better!
That last game, when the Tiger P penetrated you frontally, I'm pretty sure he wasn't firing gold.
The main problem with the T8-10 french TDs is the fact that they rely solely on their sloped armour, which gets almost completely negated when someone fires at you from an elevated position, which reduces the amount of angling.
Which is the reason the 48, and both Fochs are godly in towns or other flat areas, and completely useless on hilly terrain.

It's a mod. It gives you some additional information like Jingles minimap and how many people are capping. If you don't know what it is then you probably don't use it.
The low damage roll thing was/is a theme with french tanks, in my experience. My AMX 13 90, AMX 50 120 AND batchat used to do below average on like 70% of all shots.
It seems to have improved after 8.6, though! And not firing at the edge of the aiming circle a LOT has made Frenchies a bit more competative again.
when going German TDs, remember to cover the lower front of your tank when ever possible. That is a common weakspot on German tanks because it is relatively large and the transmission is there so expect engine problems there. Accurate guns and decent armor other wise. I'm on the Tier 7 Jagpanther and it is very nice.

Armour: 150mm sounds nice, but that's just a tiny part, the front is full of weakspots and can be damaged frontally through the tracks, lower glacis, lower upper glacis and the gun mantlet. Apart from that any big calibre gun can tear thorugh your sides if you're not perfectly aligned to him. And then there's of course the big tumors. Contrary to belief you can actually pen and damage through every part of the rangefinder.
Gun: .33 acc sounds nice, still you will hit as much as an IS-7 at range.
an IS-3 will pen you, thats right. 150mm armor @ 45 degrees is 212mm effective, when you are firing straight in front of him with no angle sideways. IS-3's gun has 225mm penetration. 225 > 212, so its able to pen it, its not a suprise
This was a pain to play..but once i got top gun..o man..its just ammmmazing....too good...loving it.. i will upgrade engine next...love this tier8 tank with overpowered gun...i did put a gun rammer...
I haven't bounced the shot of a T34 in the Mle 48. Ever.
Also, have fun bouncing E-75s. It-just-doesn't-happen.

I got the amx ac 48 in the 9.13 , got the 120 mm , awesome aiming and reloading time , the penetration is very high

The aimtime isn't good but the accuracy is actually better than the JPanther II
he means: get camo first, then when camo is 100% swap it for 6th sense. that way you have camo slowly building up. 6th sense only works when its 100%, and camo always works.
Is it me or do all French tanks have terrible RNG? I'm constantly hitting tanks for below average damage...
This thing trolled me hard today in my E75 by continually wiggling and i only got 1 reliable shot on the rangefinder bar and 4 bounces while it just kept penning me till i died. It does bounce just like Jingles says.
