For yellowed plastic from UV, just plain high volume peroxide is the usual fix for that. It can cut the yellow in a few hours, depending on the depth of the yellowing and the way you warm the peroxide, and is WAY cheaper than acne cream (which also contains a bunch of stuff that doesn't help the process at all). It also washes away a lot more thoroughly which prevents future damage to the plastic.

I had a P.J. Doll but it was the original one with the blonde ponytails that used the Midge face mold. It came out in about 1970. The one you’re working on came out in the late 70s or early 80s using the Steffie face mold. You did a fantastic job on both of these dolls!
In Brazil, to clean these yellowing on dolls body I use: baking soda + hydrogen peroxide. Put this mix in the area and put the doll in the sun and it helps a lot. And to get rid of glue seepage I use washing powder and CIF. CIF is a degreaser and it works VERY well!!
The peroxide will be a lot more effective without the baking soda. When you add the soda, it starts a chemical reaction that breaks down the peroxide and weakens it. Just plain 12% hydrogen peroxide is all you'll need!
@@constancestrawn1303how do u use the plain peroxide? i left my lagoona in the sun with it on (covered in saran wrap on the stains) but it didn’t work .. should i not use the saran wrap?

@@freakyfabu it's best if you use the cream type. Also make sure you have 12%. "Household peroxide" is only 2.5-3%. It can also take several treatments to remove the oxidation. I saw a video from one plastics restorer who did about 6 hours per day for 14 days before it was finished.
Also keep in mind that peroxide bleaching is a temporary fix. Yellowed plastic will go yellow again. It can happen as quickly as a month or take years. The key is to keep plastics away from UV exposure to prevent the yellowing in the first place.
@@freakyfabuuse the Saran Wrap, it helps. You can get some cream developer that’s normally used for hair, that works really well to get rid of staining and yellowing on vinyl and plastic. I use 10 volume. Just paint it on the areas then top it with the Saran Wrap and put it out in the sun.
I had a Malibu PJ from the '70s. I bought her at a garage sale when I was a kid. She had tan lines and pigtails.

I collect vintage barbies, and the barbie that started it all was when i found an original malibu PJ in great condition when i was 13. She is so pretty and is my prized possession, even if her hair is no longer in pigtails and she came without her bathing suit. Seeing you restore a PJ brought so much happiness to my heart as PJ means so much to me, and you did an excellent job

Gonna have to remember the acne treatment trick you used on PJ for dealing with yellowing plastic on transformers and the like. Assuming the active ingredient in the acne stuff is hydrogen peroxide? Only other methods I've seen require full immersion, which also removes any existing decals. For some lines repro decals exist, but for others nobody produces them.
