A game that kinda gets lost in the shuffle -- doesn't get nearly enough credit for being the first great WWF game post-Acclaim. Also a *great* create mode.

I got this game at a flea market back in 2013 or 14 where I also got my Nintendo 64 which was $30 what a steal, I also got other games like Super Smash Bros, Super Mario 64, and WCW Mayhem but with WWF Wrestlemania 2000 I never gave it a chance. Until 2019 I decided to play it and I fell in love with the game. I played as a created Goldberg against Triple H in a steel cage match and that lasted almost an hour since I was having a blast playing the game. The controls were incredible, then I saw people talk about WCW/NWO World Tour, Revenge and WWF No Mercy which I found out they were also developed by AKI so I just had to get them. I got both WCW/NWO World Tour, also Revenge on Ebay for $15 again what a steal and then got WWF No Mercy at a retro video game store for about $20 although I wish I got the version that was patched but it's still an amazing game just like all the wrestling games AKI made they never made one bad wrestling game.

Road To Wrestlemania mode was nuts if you pay attention to how long matches sometimes ran, like episodes of Heat were like 5 hours overall. like Droz vs Road Dogg goes 57 minutes and ends in a double countout, Steve Blackman beats Test in 52 minutes by submission, Stone Cold vs Undertaker vs The Rock goes 1 hour time limit draw....its crazy. I never took note of that before and then recently did a play through of the mode again and noticed ALOT of matches going at least 50 minutes.

One of my favourite aspects of the Road to WrestleMania mode was that not only could you use it with a CAW, when you completed it you were given the option of continuing for another year as a different character. Choose a new CAW and your original one stays on the roster (replacing one of the actual WWE wrestlers). Continue doing this and you can (eventually) have a roster packed with your own CAW characters.

Hell, someone made a sick looking PS1 fan port of Bloodborne and released that a few weeks ago. Add a few exclusive modes like Hell in a Cell, the wrestlers that were cut out from the game, CD quality entrance themes, and full FMV titantrons into it and you pretty much got it going on.

I love the fact that there was never a wait for load time on a cartridge. It’s pretty annoying to wait for loading all the time. N64 was and is still an awesome console. Loved it. Still love it. I feel like overall game quality was better back then. In my opinion N64 probably had the lowest percentage of lousy games of all the consoles.

ROM cartridges usually loaded fast because most of the assets could be accessed directly from the cartridge, unlike more modern mass storage devices.
They did still load though: Banjo Tooie N64's infamous frame rate is due to it constantly loading.

This game & NO MERCY I think hit the perfect sweet spot for how to successfully have a CAW system that's both pretty expansive but also not overwhelming.
Yeah, there aren't a 1,001 options for how your superstar climbs into the ring or individually paint each fingernail a custom color, but IMO the absurd amount of customization becomes a slog when it takes an entire day to create your guy before even starting a career mode. That ridiculous amount of customization is also an excuse by publishers to make the high-end suplexes/superkicks/top rope moves/taunts/etc pay to play with microtransactions or loot boxes, it just sucks compared to the simplicity of WRESTLEMANIA 2K or NO MERCY.

One of the main things that I love about this game going back to it, & what makes it really stand out when compared to the Smackdown games, is that certain wrestlers that you fight will actually wrestle you like the person that they're playing as. I wrestled some of the lower card in RTW mode & I usually managed to squash them in 1-2 minutes. However when going into the mid card where I was being put against guys like Ken Shamrock, he was way harder to beat & I had to change my momentum strategy to counter the way he wrestles. Yes, Ken Shamrock will actually fight you like he is Ken Shamrock. Every time he had me on the floor, he kept trying to put me in the ankle lock & had a way more aggressive striking strategy to take advantage. Going against the Hardy Boyz found me having to counter a lot of faster high flying moves as well. The developers definitely did their research when programming the AI for this game. Just because you're on a certain difficulty, doesn't mean that it will remain consistent against multiple wrestlers. It's one of the reasons why I always went off the Smackdown games when I took off my nostalgia goggles. Take HCTP for example. If you play on the hardest difficulty, every single wrestler will have the same AI strategy against you (besides move sets & attributes) no matter who you're facing & their reversals against you will just be down to a role of the dice, rather than momentum. You could be kicking a guys butt & he'll still manage to reverse almost all of your moves in HCTP. In the AKI games, having higher momentum or a higher attitude meter will give an advantage & vice versa, giving the player a decent wrestling strategy to achieve when facing different opponents.
The AKI games are amazing & I always go back to them haha. It's amazing to see people give the credit they deserve when reviewing them & seeing younger people experience them.

I always dug the 1999 era of WM 2000 vs the 2000 era of No Mercy. I wasn't watching the WWF in 99 so I was really intrigued by characters like Ministry Taker, the Blue Meanie, Gangrel and the Brood, Prince Albert, Al Snow and Droz.
Going back, I love that shortlived stables like the Union and the Corporate Ministry have their theme and titantrons.

    Great video on WrestleMania 2000.
WCW NWO World Tour was the first game i got for N64 for Christmas as a kid. I loved it and enjoyed how much better each wrestling game from Aki got. I was baffled at first when they dropped WCW, considering how excellent WCW/NWO Revenge was (and i was still more a wcw fan at the time).
But i gave WrestleMania 2000 a chance and was blown away. I loved the deep customization and Road to Wrestlemania mode. It also made me appreciate how much more interesting the WWF attitude era wrestlers were than what i was seeing on wcw.

Although the WCW games did feature a better roster. The game play evolved with each new THQ release.
I remember playing WCW VS NWO World Tour, for the first time too. I was blown away and spent countless hours on the game. It was light years ahead of any wrestling game I had owned or played before. Which were mostly on the 16 bit consoles.

This game was very special to me, have amazing memories playing it! When I found out that iconic main menu theme was heavily inspired by Pantera's Psycho Holiday I was like "no wonder I liked it so much" (during that time I started to notice I loved guitar based music, mainly rock and metal) and the fact you could create wrestlers in the AKI engine, man I always ended up doing many headcanon stories with my creations! To me this game is part of the holy tetralogy of AKI engine games alongside No Mercy, Revenge and Virtual Pro Wrestling 2

I'm sure its just nostalgia but this is my favorite of the THQ AKI games, with Revenge not far behind. WCW vs The World and World Tour have their place as a foundation but are dated. No Mercy had some nice quality of life stuff but I freaking hate the appearance of that game, although I did play the ever loving shit out of it when it was new. But WM 2000 is the one I go back to today. I just love it.

Love this game. If you have a house full of people, Do not do CAW mode because everyone else will just be sitting there for hours while you spend at least 2 hours making one wrestler. But We loved to do Pay Per View mode and basically become Vince McMahon and make our favorite Raw/Heat/PPV events. We loved the Royal Rumble because we never knew who was gonna come out next. element of surprise.

I don't have it in my top-3 best wrestling games ever, but it was mind blowing at the time how quickly it was put together after WWF was done with Akklaim.
