Some of the best new games right now are shit graphics indie games. No stratergy base building game can beat some ascii 2d dwarf drunkeness simulator for example. Nothing is more actionpacked than some top down horse mask drug simulator. I don't know why people are still paying 40quid plus for the middle finger and 6 hours of punishment.

I'm so proud you mentioned Ripley, shes always the main example of how strong female leads/characters used to be portrayed in my circle, Strong willed, never gives up, but sensitive also (with Newt), still feminine and weaker than her male counterparts (when Hicks shows her how to use the pulse rifle compared to when she fumbles getting it to fire for the first time) are all very realistic and she still managed to be a strong female character

Anthem was bad but it never broke any promises. I think the most heart breaking game this year is Black ops 4. That game was good its first month and now its almost unbareable to play. A bad game is a bad game but I genuinely feel depressed owning Black Ops 4. I can't compare it to a casino because at least a casino wouldn't let children gamble.
But Fallout 76 is so bad that every update to it makes Bethesda look worse as a company. This game caused me to lose almost all of my faith in the publisher. Just give me Doom Eternal please.
I am really thankful we still have people like you, Mack. This is all starting to border on psychological harassment at this point. One of my all-time favorite games is No One Lives Forever. In the 21 years since it's come out, I have never even thought about the 'main protagonist's gender' until now. It was just an awesome, awesome game. In the age of arcades, there was Cadillacs and Dinosaurs. I always played with Hannah. She was just the fastest of the bunch and matched my playstyle best. In the end, I do believe that if we (gamers) lose all great games this way, it's going to be our fault and no one else's. Anyone who gives even one coin to these companies is feeding this exact thing.

Wolfenstein New Colossus was better than New Order? Hard disagree on that one. The Machine Games series is completely loaded with all sorts of propaganda but at least New Order wasn't fully pozzed (probably because it was released in 2014). The cringey story, characters and dialogue in New Colossus killed it for me. Doom seems to be the antithesis of MG's Wolfenstein but for fucks sake they need to fix that RGB electric boogaloo HUD in Eternal.

Most recent example is Legacy of Kain, one that I remember a very small amount being played when I was younger and recently stumbled across; and man, the fucking CUTSCENES were enough to make me want to maybe buy it. That's more than I can say for most if not all games today. Step 1: design a good game with a good story, good immersion, and most of all, fun game play. Step 2: make the protagonist female. If you focus on the female protagonists part, literally the easiest part, and put the other stuff behind that, all you'll do is make a shit game that nobody wants to play, and you will have failed at your goal. Here's a fun story: growing up in the 90's I was a huge gamer and boy were we spoiled... FarCry, HalfLife, Jedi Academy, Bet On Soldier, C&C generals, Splinter cell, Crysis, FEAR, Aliens vs predator, Nexus the jupiter incident, Mass Effect... Sadly I couldn't afford a decent gaming pc at the time. Now I'm a software engineer and bought meself a decent rig and guess what? I have 2-4 games each of them older than 1 year that I play and most of them are strategy games. The rest of the games out there today are just a waste of time: boring, bland... Great times! :/
I'm currently playing as Emily in my Dishonored 2 playthrough. Also keep in mind this is my first playthrough of D2. I chose her over Corvo because I played Corvo in Dishonored, so I wanted something different. I have no qualms about female protagonists when done right. Preach on Mack.

Honestly, the creativity in the film industry has never been better. The issue is the people who watch them. They all flock to big blockbusters like Avengers and Star Wars (as mentioned in the video), and give no countenance to the several great films that have been coming out (along with brilliant lineups in the future). The problem is all with marketing & the audience. All they want are popcorn munchers that will give them a bit of fun for a few hours. It's humiliating to those who work so hard to make a great product, only to have them fall to waste in favor of big budget garbage that will make millions. Same with video games and media in general. Audiences need to wake up and smell the roses.
I picked up the Dishonored trilogy on Steam this weekend and holy moly are those games way better than what this game looks like. Total immersion and branching paths and a million different ways to play the game. Fantastic game! If only more games played like that today. Maybe they'll turn around. Who knows. But hey at least we have those older games to play.

Mack, I agree with you about the Marvel films. The comedy feels like it fits Guardians of the Galaxy but then they shoved it into Thor: Ragnarock and it's completely out of place. Then in Infinity Wars, they are cracking jokes while half the universe is about to be wiped out - it's so stupid and doesn't fit the comics. BUT, it's what this generation wants - they don't give a shit about immersion, realism, acting or story-telling. I know people who said Infinity Wars is the best film ever made, beating classics like Shawshank, Godfather, Apocalypse Now, etc. People are idiots. Marvel will definitely never change now - they've found a formula they don't need to stray away from. Have a spinning camera over a group of CGI heroes, then make everything else CGI and constantly crack jokes - arseholes are lapping it up.

Actually this is just pure capitalism, the industry want more than boys/men to play. The companies do not give a damn about the values, they want to lure in more players and make more money. And some boys and men have a major problem with this mainly because they are used to be pandered to, and apparently nobody can live in other people's shoes anymore. No, we don't do that, just make sure it caters to MY needs and no one elses.
Horizon zero dawn also did an amazing job with aloy, purely because they actually made her story arc and character development so well. They actually focused on the substance of the character not just the fact they were female being rammed down your neck.
This year the only two games I have bought to play that released this year so far are Crash Team Racing Nitro Fueled and Days Gone Special Edition (because I was able to buy the Edition at a superb price, saving the playtime for later this year though (scheduled for September/October)). I’ve been playing through my backlog this year including Middle Earth Shadow of Mordor, Final Fantasy XV, Nier Automata (all great games (and well earned Platinum trophies)) and intend to play Detroit Become Human (because of PS+, probably wouldn’t have reserved time for it otherwise) and Witcher 3 over the next few months. The only other game I will buy this year from what’s scheduled to release is Death Stranding, practically everything else does not interest me at all.

Well said Mr Mack! From the mid 90's until mid 2000's gaming was vibrant and creative, I'd argue some games were a work of art. But this new brand of PC/SJW preaching is more akin to propaganda than entertainment. These days, the games I get arent from the AAA publishers but smaller ones such as "Warhorse Studios" and many Eastern European/Foreign developers where the games are creative and not propaganda.

Ive built my first gaming pc, I ordered a 2070 super, and I was so excited to see it paired with wolfenstein because the previous games looked so amazing, with the guns and the atmosphere. And now that the games out and everyone has actually played it, I could not have been more disappointed. I didn't lose any money since it was a free gift, but still.
This whole game feels like a test to see if the Wolfenstein IP can be transformed into a micro transaction infested live service hell, to get all dem juice whale money.

I agree with all things that you say. I have 41 years old and i am worried about the direction of some games. Many AAA games are now ruined! Look at the Battlefield franchise? We had a game with team play, vehicles, gadgets and lots of fun. Now we have 500000 guns, a infantry focus game like Call of duty and a ton of bugs. The game lost his soul.
The way that I rate entertainment (games, movies, books, and shows) is through how much depth that it has. If a game has a narrative focus and less of a focus on gameplay that's fine, but it better have a f****** good narrative which commands your attention. In Youngblood the writing and gameplay is about a shallow as a puddle. It's completely lacking in depth. That's how you should judge any form of entertainment in my opinion.
Tattle Boad I mean the fact that it was coop would have been all that it needed to be. More play time would also be huge as well. The reason why this game fails is because it made a cop-out through ripping off failed loot shooters like Destiny, Anthem, and the Division.

This has been going for some time, for me ALL my games franchises which I grew upon since I was a child were butchered/destroyed for the sake of easy cash grabbing or failure to understand what the player base liked (in case of remakes). Commander and Conquer, Simcity, Spore, Battlefield, Mass effect, Dragon age, Thief, dead space, starwars battlefront, fallout...all of them stripped of and what made them such a good franchises and turned into unplayable mess. Its 2019 and its really hard to find good games to play at all.

I'm so proud you mentioned Ripley, shes always the main example of how strong female leads/characters used to be portrayed in my circle, Strong willed, never gives up, but sensitive also (with Newt), still feminine and weaker than her male counterparts (when Hicks shows her how to use the pulse rifle compared to when she fumbles getting it to fire for the first time) are all very realistic and she still managed to be a strong female character

Anthem was bad but it never broke any promises. I think the most heart breaking game this year is Black ops 4. That game was good its first month and now its almost unbareable to play. A bad game is a bad game but I genuinely feel depressed owning Black Ops 4. I can't compare it to a casino because at least a casino wouldn't let children gamble.
But Fallout 76 is so bad that every update to it makes Bethesda look worse as a company. This game caused me to lose almost all of my faith in the publisher. Just give me Doom Eternal please.

I am really thankful we still have people like you, Mack. This is all starting to border on psychological harassment at this point. One of my all-time favorite games is No One Lives Forever. In the 21 years since it's come out, I have never even thought about the 'main protagonist's gender' until now. It was just an awesome, awesome game. In the age of arcades, there was Cadillacs and Dinosaurs. I always played with Hannah. She was just the fastest of the bunch and matched my playstyle best.
In the end, I do believe that if we (gamers) lose all great games this way, it's going to be our fault and no one else's. Anyone who gives even one coin to these companies is feeding this exact thing.

Wolfenstein New Colossus was better than New Order? Hard disagree on that one. The Machine Games series is completely loaded with all sorts of propaganda but at least New Order wasn't fully pozzed (probably because it was released in 2014). The cringey story, characters and dialogue in New Colossus killed it for me. Doom seems to be the antithesis of MG's Wolfenstein but for fucks sake they need to fix that RGB electric boogaloo HUD in Eternal.

Making a protagonist female is the easiest thing to do. It's a simple decision. So if you want people to buy games with female protagonists, this is what you do.
Step 1: design a good game with a good story, good immersion, and most of all, fun game play.

If you focus on the female protagonists part, literally the easiest part, and put the other stuff behind that, all you'll do is make a shit game that nobody wants to play, and you will have failed at your goal. But hey, at least you can just claim that all your critics are sexist, and probably white supremacists.

Here's a fun story: growing up in the 90's I was a huge gamer and boy were we spoiled... FarCry, HalfLife, Jedi Academy, Bet On Soldier, C&C generals, Splinter cell, Crysis, FEAR, Aliens vs predator, Nexus the jupiter incident, Mass Effect... Sadly I couldn't afford a decent gaming pc at the time. Now I'm a software engineer and bought meself a decent rig and guess what? I have 2-4 games each of them older than 1 year that I play and most of them are strategy games. The rest of the games out there today are just a waste of time: boring, bland... Great times! :/

Honestly, the creativity in the film industry has never been better. The issue is the people who watch them. They all flock to big blockbusters like Avengers and Star Wars (as mentioned in the video), and give no countenance to the several great films that have been coming out (along with brilliant lineups in the future). The problem is all with marketing & the audience. All they want are popcorn munchers that will give them a bit of fun for a few hours. It's humiliating to those who work so hard to make a great product, only to have them fall to waste in favor of big budget garbage that will make millions. Same with video games and media in general. Audiences need to wake up and smell the roses.

I picked up the Dishonored trilogy on Steam this weekend and holy moly are those games way better than what this game looks like. Total immersion and branching paths and a million different ways to play the game. Fantastic game! If only more games played like that today. Maybe they'll turn around. Who knows. But hey at least we have those older games to play.

Mack, I agree with you about the Marvel films. The comedy feels like it fits Guardians of the Galaxy but then they shoved it into Thor: Ragnarock and it's completely out of place. Horizon zero dawn also did an amazing job with aloy, purely because they actually made her story arc and character development so well. They actually focused on the substance of the character not just the fact they were female being rammed down your neck.

This year the only two games I have bought to play that released this year so far are Crash Team Racing Nitro Fueled and Days Gone Special Edition (because I was able to buy the Edition at a superb price, saving the playtime for later this year though (scheduled for September/October)). I’ve been playing through my backlog this year including Middle Earth Shadow of Mordor, Final Fantasy XV, Nier Automata (all great games (and well earned Platinum trophies)) and intend to play Detroit Become Human (because of PS+, probably wouldn’t have reserved time for it otherwise) and Witcher 3 over the next few months. The only other game I will buy this year from what’s scheduled to release is Death Stranding, practically everything else does not interest me at all.

Well said Mr Mack! From the mid 90's until mid 2000's gaming was vibrant and creative, I'd argue some games were a work of art. But this new brand of PC/SJW preaching is more akin to propaganda than entertainment. These days, the games I get arent from the AAA publishers but smaller ones such as "Warhorse Studios" and many Eastern European/Foreign developers where the games are creative and not propaganda.

This week has been so great. Ive built my first gaming pc, I ordered a 2070 super, and I was so excited to see it paired with wolfenstein because the previous games looked so amazing, with the guns and the atmosphere. And now that the games out and everyone has actually played it, I could not have been more disappointed. I didn't lose any money since it was a free gift, but still.
This whole game feels like a test to see if the Wolfenstein IP can be transformed into a micro transaction infested live service hell, to get all dem juice whale money.

People who call someone a bigot for criticizing young blood don't care about the gaming industry and their mission is to push their political agenda. Gaming journalism is filled with political activists, the kind of people that write articles that label gamers as ists and phobes. I read an article that claimed gay players face constant harassment because of their sexuality, how does one know the sexuality of another online player? It's impossible to know.
I know there's players online that say things like "thats gay" or something like that and that is all the evidence journalists need to label all gamers as phobes and ists and than they demand censorship and stricter chatroom regulations which is why xbox and playstation have been implementing rules that change nothing but give the illusion of a safe space so that people who don't even play games can feel like they made a difference.

I agree with all things that you say. I have 41 years old and i am worried about the direction of some games. Many AAA games are now ruined! Look at the Battlefield franchise? We had a game with team play, vehicles, gadgets and lots of fun. Now we have 500000 guns, a infantry focus game like Call of duty and a ton of bugs. The game lost his soul.

The way that I rate entertainment (games, movies, books, and shows) is through how much depth that it has. If a game has a narrative focus and less of a focus on gameplay that's fine, but it better have a f****** good narrative which commands your attention. In Youngblood the writing and gameplay is about a shallow as a puddle. It's completely lacking in depth. That's how you should judge any form of entertainment in my opinion.
Tattle Boad I mean the fact that it was coop would have been all that it needed to be. More play time would also be huge as well. The reason why this game fails is because it made a cop-out through ripping off failed loot shooters like Destiny, Anthem, and the Division.

I dunno guess it's how you look at it, personally my standards for entertainment are very low, yet I still get disappointed my most games, and movie wise I like 80ish%. So not sure if it's actually good or bad but I thought endgame was pretty decent.
A Wolfenstein co-op game sounded great form the start but they still managed to fuck it up.
Last game I bought was kingdom come deliverance , I don't need anything else for now. It's all garbage now
Nothing's changed. Hollywood's always churned out crap and so has the games industry. However, there are great films and videogames being made today and the best thing is you can always enjoy masterpieces from the past too.

Subi_fan the "right wing outrage" was about how Brie Larsen conducted herself in interviews and such, not the movie itself.
This has been going for some time, for me ALL my games franchises which I grew upon since I was a child were butchered/destroyed for the sake of easy cash grabbing or failure to understand what the player base liked (in case of remakes). Commander and Conquer, Simcity, Spore, Battlefield, Mass effect, Dragon age, Thief, dead space, starwars battlefront, fallout...all of them stripped of and what made them such a good franchises and turned into unplayable mess.
Its 2019 and its really hard to find good games to play at all.
