Joey, i sold two swarms this morning. #15 & #16. I put them up 3 weeks ago. Both had bottom comb. One built bottom comb, it fell to the bottom of the trap and they built it again! He left hear with two nucs that weighed 12-15 pounds. I think he was happy with the deal!
Nice swarm, and beautiful brood pattern. I had a swarm move into an empty hive body consisting of a medium super over a deep, with only the top box having any frames (I hadn't yet replaced the deep frames I'd borrowed when making a couple splits). I didn't get into it until a couple weeks later, and of course they had built on the bottoms of those fromes all the way down thru both boxes. Lesson learned.
Most times new swarms are fairly calm. Im not sure why. I think it is because most of the bees are young and are producing wax. That's just my opinion. I do have some hives that make you suit up.
@@josephrawls I have done the same. On the days I get paraniod about one snapping and suckerpunching the queen, I use waxed twine. lol Keep both in my bee bucket. Rubber bands are just so, so, so, so much easier to use though. :)
I love how you edit the bloopers on the end haha! I was worried when you moved the comb over. Glad you had rubberband handy! That looks like that was the best decision too.
I'm thinking the way the comb is off center in the frames is due to the swarm trap not being level vertically? I've heard bees draw comb straight down (with gravity). Nice fix there. LOL you keep saying you shouldn't leave them in the swarm traps that long... guess you've not learned your lesson yet! That's one mean laying machine queen you have there! Really enjoy your videos and keeping it real.
It seem like I just stay so behind in getting these swarms transferred to regular hives. lol. Something always takes priority over it like the bees in the bee yards or family stuff. If not that, it's raining. lol. Thanks for watching.
It looks like you’ve got a “longer swarm trap “ I’m new to your chnl.. do you find/build the taller swarm traps better- please do tell. I’m just currently using a regular Nuc as a swarm trap.
Yes, In my opinion the do. Normally bees are looking for a larger cavity than a normal five frame box has. Here is link to one of my videos about the boxes. That video also has a link where I explain how I made them.th-cam.com/video/kNWQzsP4MlQ/w-d-xo.html
@@josephrawls Thanks, I used your method of “crossing” the rubber bands this morning. It works well. Never saw the queen and the rain rushed me. But the bees are walking into the long hive now under a a little rain protection!
Incredible brood!
She is doing a good pretty good job. Thanks for watching.

Those good swarms like that can put some weight on new comb when they load it down.
Looking Good Mr Joey…. 👋👋👋👋
Thank you.
She has one heck of a good brood pattern!!! Thanks Joey!!!
Yes she does. Thanks
Very nice!
Thank you.
Hey Joey. Always a good watch. Thanks.
Thank you.
Good Save!
Thank you.
Im yelling at the screen. Put tbe damn thing in there Joey! Its a swarm! Thats what they do - draw comb! 😂😂😂
🤣🤣🤣

Thank you. I hope you were able to salvage most of the bottom comb.
Joey, you need to hang signs in your swarm traps telling them not to draw comb on the bottom of the frames. lol
Yeah that might work.
You must really have calm bees. When I try to work mine gloveless they light me up even after smoking them good.

Nice catch and video!!! Have you ever left the rubber bands in there until the bees eat thru one? Snap... :)
Thanks. Yes I normally leave them until they remove them. I bet when they snap they are really surprised. lol

I get to move bees later today that have taken been in a trap for over a year I was told. The videos help show me what to “maybe” expect. Thanks
That should be a fun one to do. Good luck.

I have 2 to get. We haven't had the best weather to move them so i don't know what kind of crazy things they have done.
We just have to hope that they are not too bad.

Silly question maybe, but what rubber bands are you using?
Not a silly question at all. I put a link in the description.

What size rubber bands do you use? Nice catch 😀

@@josephrawls thanks
Joey,
What size rubber bands are those? I use 64’s on many of my frames but they aren’t quite big enough to go diagonally like that.
