Damn. Of course Marcus Miller talks about Al Jarreau in such a deep and nuanced way and captures everything perfectly. Jarreau‘s live album in Europe changed my life as a musician, and as an artist in general pretty much. Showed me how important it is to take risks and always look to stretch out and search for new things in your work. Not just sit there and be like everybody else. To be an artist. That there are always more stairs to climb. Same thing for me when I heard Take Five off of that Look to the Rainbow album, I couldn’t believe what I was hearing. And then the song Could You Believe showed me such range from this amazing vocalist I was hearing for the first time, showing me what was possible, that a vocalist was indeed a musician, I was just blown away. I’m so glad I found this video this morning, grateful it showed up in my feed. Thanks for sharing.
Avery Fisher Hall the night after Al’s father passed away. He never made mention of it and he blew everybody out of their shoes that night. When I left walking up the aisle on the carpet I could not feel my feet touching the ground, that’s how powerful Al’s singing was
Love his style he's Brilliant Bravo
