OMG, so much numbers and prices! 😢Hey gentlemen, if you want people to know that watch collecting is about passion for beauty and craftsmanship, and not money and speculation, you really have to tackle the subject some other way! I’m very sorry if my words hurt you, but it’s really how this interview made me feel. Best regards.
I agree - this discussion feels like the way bankers might discuss municipal bonds, rather than how enthusiasts would discuss watches. I also think discussing Patek without discussing the fact that most of their watches are priced higher than many countries’ GDP per capita is sort of out-of-touch.
Agreed. This sounded more like a discussion between stock brokers than watch collectors. I like John very much and mostly like Ben, but it's too much about prices and auctions.
John is so passionated and knowledgeable, always a pleasure to listen to him. The man made me fall in love with thiny and very old watches, what a feat 😅
Ok this conversation is amazing. John is such a good guy. But this kind of market intel on significant Pateks you can’t get anywhere else. They’re dropping free Patek game 😂
I used to own a 5970 WG , sold it to buy the 5270 R before the hype and for me the 5270 not only is a more complicated watch, but also more balanced, easier to read but also less fragile…, and it’s the first fully in house crono perpetual movement of Patek. Downside would be more pieces made I assume?
I love the Perpetual Calendar, and I LOVE manual wind. Obviously, I'm a normal human and will likely never afford one. What is the impact of all this on 5146, Annual Calendars? Those are high, but obtainable.
Excellent video. Nobody does these better.
John has such great enthusiasm, knowledge, and likeness. Maybe he should join Hodinkee as a permanent editor
Great video, love these simply edited podcasts where we focus on the discussion.
It’s such a pleasure to watch this type of conversation between so educated and knowledgeable people! Bravo! 👏

Hey Ben - Seriously, Thank You for making this hobby / obsession so enjoyable.

Love John. And I’m not going to lie, it feels good to see Ben back.
Where is your sound guy? Why the mics?
5970s are beautiful but a manual wind perpetual seems insane to me.
John is such a wealth of knowledge!
The legend is back
I have the 5270g 1st gen. It just give me happiness everytime I wear it. Like Ben said, I told myself I've made it
Ben sure does love his air quotes.
Entertaining and educational. Could have been longer. Hopefully there will be a part 2
Love this episode. For me, 5070 is my dream one ❤❤❤
Wondering if there's a channel exactly like this but it's girls nerding out over Prada handbags or something.
Great Video!! I bet John has some amazing stories and been involved with some huge deals💰💰 I think everyone would love to own a Patek?!?

Great show
Jon is the true greats of the industry
Really a great video. As constructive feedback, the handheld mic’s are really distracting.

Nice video mate 🥃
I love automatic watches, manual not for me. Great episode…

4:11 Did you bid on it as a private collector or did you bid on behalf of Hodinkee (the company) ? I don't think it's a fair comparison here.
Stop talking about prices
