Several comments mention that the new carpet is cheaper... Yes, for sure. But what if it's an old-timer car mat? It is rare and with a color and pattern that matches the interior upholstery? It's worth it for that. Coincidentally, the rubbering of the carpet of my 30-years-old roadster got loose, and I haven't found a better or new one for it yet. So I'm thinking about DIY re-coating with silicon somehow.
Not what I'm wanting to do but have found that my backing is making a massive mess on my floor falling apart. Thank you for this video helping guide me through thus process
I have 2 shag-style bathroom rugs that I’ve had for 20 years. Because of the unusual size & color, I can’t replace them. I want to try this silicone method to reback them, but first I need to know if they can be machine washed after the treatment. What say you?
I bought the same brand/type of silicone did this to the back of my rug yesterday, very thin layer and 24 hours later it’s still sticky. Only difference is the back of my rug is only starting to slough off on the corners from getting caught in the vacuum. If it doesn’t dry I’m going to have to get some backing from fabric store and attach to underside of rug.
Best backing idea i have seen so far.
Exactly what I was looking for!!! Thank you!❤
Just the type of DIY project I am looking for!
This is so helpful! Thanks for taking time to make the video!
Thank you so much because I have some very nice runners I want to repurpose, great job 👏🏽👏🏽👏🏽👏🏽❤️❤️❤️

Why not just use Fiber Lok? You can paint it on with a brush, and it's machine washable (and I think dryable too!)
I’m gonna to look into your suggestion
Where can I find Fiber Lok? Thank you
How is it after Washing...does the silicone start to come loose? I have a kitchen matt that I normally would was every week.
Bravo !
What is the tan plastic thing you use to spread the silicone?

You didn't show how you did it! What's the point if you just skip over doing it?
