I love how relatable these videos are. Reminds me of when my girls were little. House in many different stages of remodel and repair. Kids being silly and trying to make a decent meal that everyone likes, and is still somewhat good for them. I miss those days. If you’re in this part of your life, enjoy it, because it goes by way too fast. The kids will be grown and moved out, and you’ll be missing it all.
Ok so where I live..pastasaus and tomatosaus are basically the same thing. Ketchup is something different from tomatosaus.. So the suspense of what actually went wrong until you said "aka ketchup", was killing me hahah. Great video!
@@corgiw7281 Well there are different kinds, but tomato sauce usually has vinegar in it and sometimes has a small percent of beer, depending on the type. For example Tuimato sauce contains 2% Tui Beer. Pasta sause on the other hand, uses canned tomatoes and tends to have herbs in it if that makes any sense. Google gives you the American answers, so it can get quite confusing. Also tomato sauce usually goes on chips (fries) or on the side of a meal. However pasta sauce quite obviously goes in pasta. It's also often used in things like nachos or lasagna if I'm correct.
Ok this is the only cooking show i will ever watch again. Finally something realistic I can actually relate to!! Tomato sauce is pasta sauce where I live. But it sounds like you call ketchup tomato sauce ?
Where I live in the southern US, tomato sauce is pasta sauce without the Italian herbs. If I make pasta sauce from scratch, I start out with tomato sauce. Ketchup is a whole 'nother ball game. I love the unfinished walls. I'm not joshing you or anything, I genuinely love them because it seems like it fits in the how to dad universe. There's always some unfinished project or yet to start item on the list that takes longer than expected because there's actual dadding or momming to do. Very realistic Also love how to mom giving how to dad instructions on the quick feed😂 also very accurate. You guys (the whole how to family) are the best and delightfully wholesome, so thanks for the great laughs and general joy your vids bring to my day whenever I watch them
Chuck it in the oven with some cream-too 'calm down' the tomato sauce that was supposed to be pasta sauce and cheese on top and all of it is salvageable-love the honesty of the video
I LOVE this because it didn't go perfectly! Good on ya for screwing it up and giving the rest of us a good-natured laugh. We've all been there, mate. We've all been there.
If you are to cook this pasta again, a few tips from Italy (that I promise don't take longer): add salt when water is already boiling then add pasta. Veggies in that way get watery, to make them taste better, cut sausages (or make pieces with your hands to remove the skin if you prefer) and cook them together with veggies in a pan, add drained pasta when cooked.
I had the same thought watching this! Never add veggies to the water as it boils most of the vitamins away, the pasta sauce in the pan will contain all the goodness from the veggies and they'll turn crunchy instead of soggy.
You should totally make this a series, so useful! While we're at it, may I suggest my favorite quick feeds? Tortilla pizza. You get a tortilla, spread some pasta sauce, sprinkle cheese, add veggies/pepperoni/etc, pop it in the oven for 5min and voila.
A looooong time ago, well, once upon a time, when pasta appeared in supermarkets in the 50's (?) here in Oz, influenced by Italian immigrants arriving with pasta and pasata under either arm, my grandmother decided to cook spaghetti. She knew it had tomato sauce , so that was it. We got spaghetti in Tomato Sauce... the Ketchup sort, not the Pasta Sauce sort......and loved it!
Encourage them to try everything, but accept that they will not like a lot of things. Keep it low stress so they know it's ok to not like stuff. That way they will be more willing to at least try.
This is one of my favorite quick feeds to do. One thing I do to make it even quicker is to buy suasage that has already been cooked. Then the only thing you have to cook is the pasta. I keep the cooked sausage in the freezer so that I can whip this out anytime without having to plan ahead.
Haha, I first didn't get the big deal of putting tomato sauce in the pasta until you explained in New Zealand tomato sauce is ketchup. Hahahaha, my kids would agree with your oldest!! Kids are kids no matter the country or age. You guys rock!
Well.... yes and no... "Tomato Sauce" can be what would be known to most as ketchup if bought from a supermarket... but when home made, especially by a grandmother, is more than likely actually closer to what would be known as a paste sauce really... Many good pasta sauces are very simple being mainly tomatoes... he even reads off onions and cloves... Personally I've used my mothers home made "tomato sauce" as pasta sauce many times... it's nothing like Heinz ketchup that you'd dip your McDonalds fries into... I reckon it would have tasted fine!
@@heathwellsNZ I have made ketchup before and some recipes call for onions and cloves. That didn't sound so weird for ketchup to me. Though I've never done cloves in pasta sauce before. How to Dad said ketchup so that's what I went with.
I was seriously just the other day thinking to myself "wait, has How-to-Dad still not posted at all this year??" and was getting worried..... Thank goodness a new video just came out!!!! 👍 *EDIT: I just got done watching the video and I cannot tell you how much I cracked up after she spit it out, and all that ensued. 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣
Our version uses mince which you brown in the pan then throw he pasta sauce in (to make our Italian friend below happy) before stirring into the pasta. Little bits of mince stick good in the spirals too!
My sister makes this even quicker! Chopp the sausage and put everything together in the same pot and cook in the pasta sauce. Try it. One pot quick feed sausage pasta. Way to go
I do it the italian way, put the pasta when you see the water bubbling for 4-6 minutes then add the sauce with drops of olive oil and parmigiano reggiano shredded on top. Very quick, authentic, and delicious.
0:58 Italian girl here 🙋🏻♀️ that was actually correct, good pasta needs about 8-10 minutes to cook depending on how "al dente" you like it. So don't worry, no hate here, just lots of love! 💚❤️
ketchup flavored pasta served with Tabasco sauce and parmesan cheese is popular and widely available at cafe restaurants in Japan and its called Napolitan (ナポリタン). it’s originated in Yokohama during the post-war era.
I think it still beats (as in is more yummy than) my dad’s quick meal when my brothers and I were kids. He’s known for his omelettes and after nearly a week of your usual ones, he made us a black pudding omelette. I don’t mind eggs and I don’t mind black pudding but in an omelette? Had no choice but to eat it. The next night we had fish and chips.
In our family we talk about the "Faff to Flavour" ratio (shortened to F2F) of different meals. Something with a favourable F2F will be easy and quick to make (low Faff) and really yummy (high Flavour). I'd imagine Sausagey Pasta has a great F2F ratio!
Guys guys come on ! Wait ! What’s that ?! The meat must be smashed with the vegetables in the flat pot…oil and onion pieces..The fusillo alone just with the water ! Love you guys ! Regards from Venice, Italy

Love you guys, but so many things went wrong with this recipe. I'm Italian so I'm not going into too many details, but one thing in particular I have to say. You ALWAYS let your tomato sauce (which is not ketchup here) boil for some time with the other ingredients before adding it to your pasta. Even if it's been cooked for hours before putting it into the bottle. Try it!
Exactly! Where i come from, we use tomato paste and let it saute a bit in hot olive oil together with garlic, before we add water or pure tomato juice and all the other ingredients. This give the whole thing a very delicious flavour. It tastes less like raw tomatoes if done like that.
Add in some butter and sugar to balance the ketchup and you will be right. Butter to smooth the sauce and sugar/honey to balance the vinegar in the Ketchup.
Ermmmmm okaaaaaaay... But Have you tried Cheesy Sick? In a bowl, bung in a couple or three fork-fulls of mayo. Add 3 sliced up spring onions. Add about a quarter to a third of a red bell pepper (for contrast). Add an 'ish' sized tomato all sliced up into little bits and finish of with grated mature cheddar cheese to taste. Then mix it all up so that it looks like what it's called. Great in sarnies, on baked potatoes (er after you've baked the potato... hey, or not; never tried it that way) Also good as the stuffing in stuffed tomatoes in which case you just use the inside of the bigger tomatoes for the filling.
I pop sausages in the microwave for about 15 seconds before frying them: helps get the middle cooked. Also I use the kettle to boil the pasta water; starting it in a pot is really sloooow.
