To "R", on the Discovery channel I think in the late 90's, a program about Kevlar Vests. A retired Police Woman deceived her injury while wearing a vest. She and her Dr. thought that a bullet had breached her vest and penetrated the lower part of her Stomach? The Dr. Poked his finger into her wound but couldn't find the bullet? Turned out the Close Contact Shot had punctured the area leaving a hole. The Vest caught the bullet! The Point Here!! A Vest can be made really Light and Thin with the State of the Art Fabrics and stop the rounds well. But the exchange one pays? Moderate BFT/Kinetic Energy Disapation !!! Big Owwi!!!!

Back in the 60's when vests first came out for L.E.O.'s, BFT is the biggest drawback for Officers and the welts/bruises it left.I remember I think it was the Discovery Channel back in the 90's. A female officer was shot multiple times and in the lower left front side and broke the skin. The Dr. poked inside to locate the bullet but none was found. It turned out the bullet caused severe BFT and broke the skin. And all the testing done in Outdoor Ranges/Indoor Ranges where they put an extra Pad of Kevlar behind the vest? The Deformation in the Clay is still severe even though the demformation was reduced a little. I made a video back in 2015 with a Modified 3A Vest P.A.C.A. that I treated and used an Insert (I designed) Distance was 10'. After multiple shots there was hardly any BFT that not even a Micrometer could measure the depth?! Currently waiting for 2 of my BFT Inserts to be tested with other rounds and awaiting the test results.
These COP shows where Officers are hit in their vests and get back up like no big deal? Total fiction or when the bullet is on the surface of the vest? Total Hollywood! My modification so far with a .45 hp (bullet mushroomed on the second layer showed on the front!!!)

(even tho its not rated for stabbing) it helps to know how naturally resistant it'd be, If it holds up decently to those full power strikes then there would be no need to worry about getting stabbed while wearing it. Since in real scenarios it's almost impossible to deliver full power stab to a conscious and actively defensive individual.

Of what materials is the vest constructed?
I’ve e-mailed the company but they never replied.
Back when I first got on the job (1978), Second Chance was THE name in soft body armor. Second Chance was #1 for many years until the early 2000’s when the Zylon fiasco forced Second Chance out of business. Second Chance, iirc, was then bought out by Safariland, which itself was bought out by another company.
The Second Chance vests were originally constructed of multiple layers and configurations of Kevlar-129 and were very successful in protecting officers who wore them.
My last PD originally issued Second Chance, then issued PACA vests, finally issuing Point Blank vests a few years before I retired.
Am considering replacing the outdated vests since I wear one one the range and when I drive through some questionable areas in Cook County on family business.

Do these vests regardless of the newest materials being used, how much reduction in BFT is there?? For the first time(that I can recall) I saw on T.V. Chicago P.D. where one of their Officers was hit in the chest area. He depicted pain and his partner pulled his vest up and showed the Bruised area and the spot where the bullet hit. He was in pain which other Police Shows don't show this? Has ANYONE come up with a Vest that will reduce this trauma by 50% or greater??

      You are so ABSOLUTELY RIGHT.
Putting their FRAS soft plates on top of this, while a tad pricy, is probably the most mobile soft armor set up possible.
It would come in weighing less than the original fras panels alone. Which are 16 pounds altogether.
      and be way less bulky.
Nothing is more important than mobility, so when you got that level of protection all around, and the soft plate is acting like a trauma plate that is also rifle resistant,
      COME ON.
Light weight as hell, proven stopping durability.
You can carry the whole thing around no problem, all day every day.
If you have a big boy job and no family, get 2 sets of the soft plates AND the soft vest.
Keep one in the vehicle, and another in a duty bag.
Throw some flat MAP PACKS on the front and back, and that thing is READY FOR BATTLE.
Have the back hold the +3 mags,, a second flashlight. Batteries for optics phone charger, survival food. and a spare IFAK.
And the front have 3 mags, multi tool, combat knife, a water filtration straw and a flat ifak.
Top with windbreaker and and you are good to go.
When shit goes awry, you ARE the most mobile on the battlefield, and the more Gucci you get, the more stages you can add.
A battle belt, another 3day pack and you are in full rattle, but you can MOVE.

wow. this makes me really curious if this armor was as think as the current 3A+ vests made by SLD. would it stop rifle round???

Basically three Hyperline panels are the thickness of the iiia+! I dont think it would stop a rifle. Its amazing how powerful a 5.56 round is. The fact FRAS can even exist with the small amounts of ceramic is has is amazing.

@@SafeLifeDefenseBodyArmor I did some quick math and looked up the thickness of a sheet of paper. The Hyperline Vest is about the same thickness as 45 sheets of paper. That is absolutely nuts to me.
I wear one of yalls 3a+ vests, actually wearing it as I type this. The thoughts of something that is a third the thickness, and what half the weight, or a 1/3 the weight, could stop almost all the same threats as my 3a+ vest is just insane.
Yall are doing some amazing work and RnD around ballistic vests. I cant wait to see what yall come out with next.

The whole nature of the physics problems changes with rifle velocities. When you go from a 1,450 fps pistol round to something near 3,000 fps, it can't be stopped by sacrificing a layer or two of aramid to slow it down enough to deform it and dissipate the energy. It has to be shattered by something like steel or ceramic.
