    Do you save and recycle your scraps of bare copper wire?

  • @CeltycSparrow

    This pendant is stunning. You make it look so easy. I tried wrapping my first pendant last night and it was like I had 3 very wiggly snakes in my hands. Every time I finally got them straight and where I wanted them, they would kink up and go off in different directions. This gorgeous pendant took you maybe 15 minutes to wrap. Mine took almost 4 hours. lol Any tips on how to keep them still? Is there a way you can discern what gauge of wire works best with the size of cabochon you are wrapping and how much wire you need for a particular size of pendant? Like, do you use thinner gauges for smaller pendants? And is there a guide for which color wire (copper, silver, gold etc) works best with which gemstone or is that purely an aesthetic preference by the artist making the pendant? And when you are wrapping a pendant, how do you come up with a price point for what that piece is worth? Is it cost of the stone, wire and the time you invest making it?
    Sorry for all the questions....I'm just new and I want to learn.

    • @OxanaCrafts
      @OxanaCrafts  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      It will get easier with practice, I like to use 20 gauge square wire for the base wires the most often, if the stone is really small I will go down a size to 21, or for big stones 19 or 18 gauge. The color of the wire is personal preference, sterling silver is quite a bit more expensive. I price exactly like you said, the price of materials and hourly wage for my time. Also don't forget to include in the price anything else that might be used like if you include a necklace and packaging and bubble wrap and shipping envelope, just so you don't lose money because often we forget all the other little things.

  • @vickimullin7061
    @vickimullin7061 5 ปีที่แล้ว

    Is there any wire I could use to practice that is not so expensive?
    I would like to try it before investing in the copper wire.
    I really like your work and the great instructions.

    • @OxanaCrafts
      @OxanaCrafts  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      You can get some Artistic wire from a craft store, it will be round not square, but still good to try out wire wrapping. I have tutorial that is a very basic pendant using a bead and Artistic wire. The copper wire is cheaper for the actual amount of wire you get because it comes in 1lb spools, but you don't want to get such a large amount if you are not sure yet whether wire wrapping will be something you want to do.

  • @rorok4201

    Will it look nice if I use the regular round wire instead of the square wire?

    • @treesapgrl
      @treesapgrl 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      I'd like to know this, too. Also, I'd like to know if using round instead would increase the difficulty of making this piece.

    • @OxanaCrafts
      @OxanaCrafts  5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      It would definitely increase difficulty as square wire kind of "holds" the stone better due to its flat edges. But the finished result would probably look pretty similar.

      Gotcha, thanks! I have yet to try this style yet because all I have is round (and 1 roll 20g (for some reason) half round), lots and lots of round (few pounds worth, LOL). I've watched soooo many of your videos, though, Oxana, and, as soon as I get my hands on some square, I'm coming straight to your channel (and frequenting it daily in the meantime, tee-hee).

    Where do you get your wire from? I have a really hard time finding the right wire. The kind I find will never oxidize for me. I know the gauge, temper, and round etc I just can’t find the right kind! Help! Lol
    On another note, all your work is AMAZING!!!

    • @OxanaCrafts
      @OxanaCrafts  5 ปีที่แล้ว
