    is the abrupt ending a metaphor for gap’s inevitable path to oblivion?

    Gap was my go to for jeans and t-shirts in the nineties because the jeans fit and you couldn’t find good quality basic t-shirts anywhere else. I still own a t-shirt from that era. It’s a bit faded but still works for puttering around the house. I still like the simple styles from back then but now I get my basics from Uniqlo. I’d probably still shop at the old Gap but they’ve closed all their stores in my city. It was a hassle returning my last online order. Interesting comments about safari fashion. And you’re right The Gap, Banana Republic, Old Navy and Athleta are very much slightly different flavours of the same thing.

    I feel like if Gap directs their marketing and branding toward what is popular now they can revive their stance. Vintage and nostalgia are always going to be timeless and sought-after. You can see accounts like lostjcrew, simplicitycity, and more platforms romanticizing the classics of past fashions through the curation of vintage ads with their grainy images. Time travel through products appears to be popular. Vacation sunscreen bases their entire marketing scheme off of the 70s/80s when really the product is just like any other sunscreen. Aesthetics are powerful.
    The unisex androgynous look has returned. Wearing large button down shirts and blue jeans and white t shirts. I think Gap has the opportunity now to profit from this comeback of the classics they just have to pay more attention to marketing those items in a tasteful way and not in marketing new wannabe trendy stuff that you can buy anywhere. And yes, you can buy classic staples like a linen shirt anywhere, but the factor of Gap’s history isn’t replicated by most other brands now. Am I the only one who’s driven toward articles of clothing that represent a story beyond the surface of their fabric? Levi’s are great in general with their fit and quality, but their role in history makes them ever more incredible.

    Yeezy gap probably had the best quality for its price out of any clothing brand next to uniqlo and la apparel, but the balenciaga deal kind of threw off its whole message. Though the quality is better then ever, the prices are outrageous, I bought from the collaboration because of its unmatched quality and style, but im a very small minority. If kanye wants to save gap and be for the people, he has to start acting like he is.

      I hope they are able to take the designs made with balenciaga and re release them better and more affordable because the dove hoodie might be one of the most comfortable and forward thinking hoodies ever made for that price.
      Im sure they can work something out, they re released the jacket as a 2.0 for $300 saying that balenciaga had a hand in this one for a better design. They can certainly release a 2.0 of the dove hoodie for $100 to $140

    Definitely interesting to see what happens to old brands, I recently walked into Abercrombie and noticed they’re completely trying to reinvent themselves and their prices have gone up as well. I feel Jcrew had the same issue u said gap has about not changing themselves, every single year Jcrew has the same windbreakers, the same ties, and the same sweaters and none of it fits good lol. In the U.S. thrifting is super popular now and people are more aware of the effects of fast fashion so I assume stores like H&M will suffer a similar fate. Also LOVE your outfit lol

    • @tubaavalon
      @tubaavalon  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Oh yes, also read an article about Abercrombie, it was not very optimistic and that’s also what I feel about the brand. Also don’t really feel like they are capable of changing their image. And yes, hope fast fashion will have to slow down finally, but just saw shein having a huge out of home campaign..

    That was a really nice video! I enjoyed hearing someone elses opinion when it comes to The Gap. I always saw them as a staple of American Apparel and it always makes me think of the early 1990 with the GAP logo t-shirt and sweatpants. As a kid growing up outside the US seeing someone wearing a GAP garment would always make me think of American movies and style and teenagers.

    I bought the Yeezy X Gap X Balenciaga dove hoodie and it’s really good quality but I do think that if they keep pricing these items at higher prices this whole collaboration will sit, which it did on this recent drop. They need to stick to the Yeezy aesthetic and affordable prices

    • @marcbeaulac2400
      @marcbeaulac2400 2 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      It sat cuz it was a pre-order and kanye wanted to make fashion available at all times. The collection was very successful but they need to get back to the old collection which had good prices and unique pieces.

    More Yeezy themed content please. Found you when searching for Yeezy Gap. Then watched a few more of your menswear videos and enjoyed thoroughly. But I think there is a large youtube population (mostly men) who would be very interested in a deeper dive into Kanye's aesthetic evolution from a more educated fashion perspective. Maybe just focused on clothing at first. Lots of content already out there on his shoes from the sneaker world. I think most of these guys really love and appreciate fashion. But I think maybe they are lacking in a lot of ways. Especially not having grown up surrounded by people who care and are experienced with fashion, myself included. I think this is a great avenue for you to reach and have an impact on men who are passionate, and would just love a little education and guidance.

      @johnlynn5240 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      I also think that you when talking about Kanye's Gap collaboration you left a lot of the Kanye out. You mentioned so much about the history of Gap, but on Ye's first album in 2004 he raps, "Let's go back, back to the Gap." Then he mentions khakis... and he so often brought up Gap in his interviews over the years. You should show him and his Gap love a tad more respect here.

    I think the YZY could have worked. There are lots of things in his Season line that are basics, and reworked basics. The initial YZY/GAP designs and price points still have a connection to Gap classics, but the introduction of Balenciaga has broken the connection.
    Gap customers are not interested in the avant garde and Balenciaga customers are not going to buy Gap mainline.
    I read the idea of Demnas involvement was to change the structure of Gaps design process, if true, it could be a good move and leave YZY and Gap in a better place to update their mainline products and have an affordable and "cool" colab brand bring in new customers.
    Ultimately Gap will wither and die if all they do is sell YZY hoodies every 6 months and dont get their mainline on track.
