    Big old trucks but the 994 jockey knows his stuff. I like to see full buckets. That's where you get something done! Good one!

    Great video man! I work at a construction company and we have a 988K that goes with our crushing plant. That 994 is huge though!! We don't have the big mining trucks, just 2 off road trucks and a bunch of semi trucks that pull Michigan gravel trains. Thanks again!!

      Thanks, and yes the 994 is one big machine! The 988 is a great machine and very popular for quarrying operations.

    When I was a kid in the 60's 40 ton Euclids and 7-10 yard shovels were state of the art in Minnesota. Cat had just come out with the 5 yd 988, the first loader that could be considered a mining duty loader.
    Times sure have changed.

    Where does all this overburden get stockpiled? or is it used to chase finished cuts in the mine? How does one get a job as an operator in a place like this, is it a union shop?

    • @PAmining
      @PAmining  8 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Overburden stripped above the coal is used to backfill areas of the mine previously exhausted of coal, which is part of reclamation.

      Never. There are D11's up top pushing the clay down to him

    Is that 994 programmed? Or is that one heck of an operator?

    • @PAmining
      @PAmining  8 ปีที่แล้ว +10

      It has a lot of automatic functions, such as automatic boom lower and leveling system, but all those functions are useless without a skilled operator

    I can’t help but think a that a large front shovel would be faster. I know that price is a huge factor in mining these days. But a 3 pass shovel would be way more efficient. Love these vids though, and loved watching.

    does the chains help it get more traction

    • @PAmining
      @PAmining  8 ปีที่แล้ว +6

      The purpose of the chains is to protect the front tires from getting cut by sharp rocks. Tires are one of the most expensive components on a loader of this size.

    994F is so giant!..
    I'm not a professional miner but digging such a tall horizon looks dangerous. Is it usual operation? Aren't they afraid of fallen of big masses of dirt?

    • @PAmining
      @PAmining  8 ปีที่แล้ว +5

      There are D11's up top pre-stripping clay and shoving it down to the 994. As long as a dozer is pushing down to a loader, digging near a bank that high is fine, but naturally the operator has to be careful

    • @jtoddjb
      @jtoddjb 6 ปีที่แล้ว +8

      No insult here at all, but I'm amazed at the increase in frequency the question "isnt that dangerous" gets asked over the last 20 years. I've even heard little kids saying "what if I get hurt" when asked to join the game of kickball or something. This was something I never heard once when I was a kid. Yes, we all broke a bone or had some stitches by the time we grew up, but we were fine. How are kids doing today? Safety is obviously important, but at what point is it becoming an irrational obsession that will leave us helpless and unable to do anything but office jobs? I've seen situations in woodworking shops for example where extreme eye protection actually increased the risk of losing a finger, hand, or arm due to the safety glasses and a face shield causing distortion in depth perception. Some lawyer or insurance man must have said, well if one layer of protection is good than 2 must be better, so it's a shop rule when everyone on the floor is put at increased risk. You know how they mark the evolutionary steps of mankind with like Upright man, etc. and our latest Homo Hablis (tool man) I feel we are crossing over in to a new one, Safety man. This might be where it finally ends and we go extinct, all sitting on our couches with helmets, 2 layers of eye protection and wrapped in bubble wrap just waiting for our heart attacks. It was a logical question and no disrespect towards you is meant.

    High reach model to load a 4400? Around here (Minnesota) these 994's have been found to be much more reliable than the LeTourneaus..

    • @PAmining
      @PAmining  8 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Yes. And regarding the Letourneau's, I've always heard good things about them.

    • @lowercherty
      @lowercherty 8 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      It helps the Cat and mechanical drive trucks here that the dust is very abrasive and magnetic. If it gets into moving electrical stuff it wreaks havoc. Maintenance here varies by company, but considering the service IMHO it's generally pretty good.

    why chains on the tires?

    • @coalminer1553
      @coalminer1553 8 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      The chains save the tread of the tires a little better and they help the loader dig in the shots

    • @PAmining
      @PAmining  8 ปีที่แล้ว +8

      The chains protect the tires from getting cut by sharp rocks

      twister563 it’s got chains on.

    • @scotttaylor8498
      @scotttaylor8498 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Those chains are welded on to protect the front tires from sharp rocks deep gauges deflates and traction to dig in with the huge electric drive force it makes.

    • @scotttaylor8498
      @scotttaylor8498 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      The Cummins motors are hooked up to hydro electric drive motors, four of them independently for each tire to power it and move that beast.
