Very Interesting Aidan. The more I walk around the more I despair at some of the buildings. We are worth more. I do love the CIS but we need unique buildings that compliment our city and will bring people in. Anyway I could go on. Great watch 👍

Many thanks for your comment and I agree we need more unique buildings, too many are uninspiring and characterless. Really glad you enjoyed it. Your channel is great!

Yes, it's meant to stimulate discussion, it is not a definitive appraisal, it's my personal preference.

Ehh. I prefer our more...old architecture. Also 9 hurt my feelings its so communist. And boxy. (just finished watching the video. WTF THE CIS BUILDING REALLY! thing looks like it'll collapse any minute)

ShyMe Bc Thanks for your comment and sharing your opinion, that's what the video is all about. The CIS tower is 56 years old and has not collapsed! It was the first major post war office tower in Manchester and I loved it as a child. I like old buildings as well. Anyhow many thanks for watching!

    Some nice buildings.
Pity the planners and councillors have been and are complete ******* ******, ******.

Unfortunately that seems to be the case not just in Manchester but in many other cities. In Manchester the destruction of viable, characterful buildings is constantly upsetting. Interesting artifacts have survived for decades, even centuries, only to be razed to the ground and replaced by characterless flats, which are uninspiring and not worth photographing!

1st like I would of put the Piccadilly wall on the top of my most hated list - fully watched- well done 👍

Many thanks for the feedback! That video took a huge amount of time and effort! Hopefully the next one won't be as labour-intensive as I hope to streamline my workflow!

I disagree with you, but I understand where you're coming from: you're an older guy with a fond longing for the past and its architecture. I love the new flats in Northenden and the link between the Central library buildings: harmonizing modern architecture with the past. For me, architecture is there to serve the needs of society rather than the head-in-the-clouds ego of the architect.

I like the Refuge building. Manchester is so poor at squares. The bulldozing of Bernard House was a crying shame

Thanks very much for your comment. You've stumbled on one of my older videos on my old TH-cam channel. Please visit (and please subscribe to) my new AidanEyewitness TH-cam channel with lots more videos about Manchester: th-cam.com/users/aidaneyewitness, That's a really weird coincidence that you have picked out Bernard House. Today I have been doing drawings of Benard House for my upcoming video 3 groundbreaking Manchester buildings that were demolished. I agree absolutely. Great to hear from you and very best wishes!

@@AidanEyewitness You are welcome. Bernard House with its oriental style roof was the best building in Piccadilly Plaza in my view.

Very interesting Aidan. I agree with Martin's comments, we need more distinctive buildings not the box like ones that seem to be norm at present. I look forward to watching more of your videos.

Many thanks for your comment! I've been campaigning for a long time for better architecture in Manchester, without much success! Thanks I'm only just starting to produce videos on a regular basis, so your words are a great encouragement!

Very interesting. I'm fond of Gateway house as I did part of my nurse training here in the early nineties. It seemed very futuristic to a girl from a small rural village.

I worked there in the late 1990s, I did some website photography training work with Manchester Health Authority. I think it's a great building. Many thanks for subscribing.

t a u Seriously...I think it’s one of the best modern buildings built in the U.K. (in the past 10 years).

Yeah I don’t think that’s what I meant to comment on idk, or maybe my view has changed since I made the comment because I don’t see a problem with it

    Deansgate square towers look interesting.

    • @AidanORourke
      @AidanORourke  6 ปีที่แล้ว

Yes, architect Ian Simpson has learned from the Beetham Tower experience and made them slimmer with a kind of 'four sided starfish' floorplan, with sharp corners. The two towers built so far are placed at a distance apart for better views and privacy. However I don't think they are the iconic structures Manchester is waiting for.
