Someone in the comments mentioned Floor tho and so now I'm here asking if you'd like to review an older song/collab..."Let this River Flow"... Bjorn "Speed" Strid and Floor Jansen...I don't think you'll be disappointed, even if you don't review publicly!!!

    Can we take a moment to applaud and appreciate Courtney’s progression and evolution from her days in IWABO to now? In my opinion she might be the best female metal vocalist out there right now, Tatiana from Jinjer is certainly close up there but Courtney just edges it for me

    Courtney's screams are just so perfect for the sound they're trying to produce. She is so technically amazing at them and the band knows how to put them in at the perfect time with how the music is progressing. It's incredible how the songs are composed. She asks for your attention and demands it with her screams. I just love it.

  • @xXxDisplayNamexXx

    Dude I’ve been absolutely infatuated with her one take of this song. Probably one of the best vocalists of all time, that ability to switch between cleans and screams so easily is what gives her that edge for me. She’s insanely attractive as well, but that voice is beyond incredible

    i love the point you made about courtney's screams being straight to the point and done well- her voice is so full of body, she could go nuts if she wanted to (on belcarra she goes higher on the "i was alive" parts and its SO good) but i love how her technique is so straightforward and still powerful

    • @TheButterflyChaos
      @TheButterflyChaos 3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Yes! She does what's appropriate for the song and what gets the emotion through. Sometimes a lot of embellishment would just not be as effective. Would embellishment make "I have the power of a dying Sun" hit harder? Nah.

  • @williamreynolds3487
    @williamreynolds3487 3 ปีที่แล้ว +26

    They’ve always sounded “poppy,” specifically the clean vocal melodies. Bleach Bath is a perfect example. Blessed Be as well, along with a bunch of others. It’s a great combo with the heavy sound from the instruments imo.

    • @DCJayhawk57
      @DCJayhawk57 3 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      I think that's what makes them unique to me. Unlike some other metalheads, I listen to a lot of pop music and pretty much only female pop vocalists. Spiritbox combines some very hooky pop melodies with very aggressive and dry harsh vocals, along with the heavily syncopated djenty guitar parts. I feel like compared to other female fronted bands like Jinjer who employ clean and harsh vocals, Spiritbox pulls in more pop and intentional "hooks", whereas Jinjer is influenced more by nü metal, reggae, ska, and other rock genres. I love Jinjer as well, but they juxtapose more conventional clean sounds with the heavy stuff imo. And that's not even mentioning bands that employ a lot of classical influence (symphonic and power bands with death vocals).

    I don't think it really "poppy" in sound but it's definitely more mainstream accessible. Not everyone is gonna dig Holy Roller but theses where she mixes it up are gonna have a broader appeal. Either way it's freaking Spiritbox, still heavy and still amazing. Supposed to be an actual album this fall I believe.

    • @TheButterflyChaos

      @@TheButterflyChaos it gets a bad rap because it's mainstream and a lot of the time can be a bit generic but there are some really good and talented pop artists.

    • @sockwithaticket
      @sockwithaticket 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      They have plenty in their back catalogue that are very melodic (Perennial and Trust Fall for just two), vocally this is definitely a poppier sound compared to those. Costance also had much poppier vocal patterns. Even the comparitively recent singles like Rule of Nines and Blessed Be are melodic without being poppy. I won't say whether that's good or bad, but it is a definite shift from other material of theirs that might be more mainstream palatable than heavier tracks like Belcarra or Holy Roller.

  • @bizznotch101
    @bizznotch101 3 ปีที่แล้ว

    I watched another channel react to this and the guy spent the entire video just trashing it for NO GODDAMN REASON. He tried so hard to make it feel like this wasn't Spiritbox anymore because he cried listening to "Constance" and "Holy Roller" shocked him but this was just lack luster and called it "shit". So...naturally...he received so much hate and dislikes that he deleted the video. Mind you this dude has no musical background or experience no he obviously didn't know what he was talking about.
    This video? *chefs kiss* Excellent analysis and open mindedness. I really like how you pick up and explain the most subtle vocal flairs she has and I find it super interesting. It makes me really think about how I sing and how I can spice up melodies. Love it. Keep doing a stellar job my dude.

    Such a good song. I feel like Spiritbox has had pop elements in pretty much all their music, whether it be the production or the musical style. So this doesn't really feel that different, it's just more noticeable than in other releases.

    Hey man I just listened to Kardashev’s album, just hit my phone. Absolutely insane. You guys sit in this pocket of pure musical intensity while at the same time you also having extreme dynamics which creates a very, very interesting juxtaposition. Hits right where the feelz are :)

    It makes me so happy this song has 671K views as of this post, five days since the video was posted. So well deserved.

    Love your videos. I know little about singing but I always learn something new. The use of syllables in 'altar' is also used in 'martyr'. I suppose it could be thought of as an appoggiatura since the second syllable is in anticipation for the harmonic note on the final. Since we're talking about words it's just a melisma.

    Lmao I've been smashing Kardashev for like two weeks and JUST checked out some music videos. After like two songs, a light bulb popped on and I thought, I know I've seen that vocalist somewhere.
    Tracked you down after about 15 minutes of searching but I remember watching this reaction from you like a week after you put it out.
    Anyway, Kardashev is my favorite new band since I first discovered Caligula's Horse. Just wanted you to know, you're insanely talented lol

    One of my favorite songs from Spiritbox, though this whole album is gold. Thanks for pointing out the layers in her performance--that quality makes her one of my favorite vocalists, and it suits the variations in style and mood each Spiritbox song delivers. Such a band!

    The one take performance of this I feel like is even more impressive than the studio version. They can obviously do cool layering and stuff in the studio version but what she pulls off in a one take live performance is honestly above and beyond.

    Man, I love your analysis!
    Every time I watch one of your videos I go back to that particular song and it feels like a brand new song to me.
    It is so easy to miss those subtile details when you don't have a trained ear or knowledge at all.
    Really appreciate your channel. Keep up the great work!
