Hey Alex… That wheel “spicket thing” you are referring to is called a “stub axle”… The new mods… checker plate, lights, etc looks really cool… Can’t wait to see you guys living the dream, after all the hard work you and your lovely lady Erin… It’s a credit to both of you,!!❤
Alex chuck your wheels that you’ve taken off on their side under the caravan frame somewhere. If it comes off the Jack and the stabilisers fail the wheel prevents the frame going all the way to the ground. You may still get injured but it’s heaps easier to get another Jack or emergency service hydraulic tools to lift it back up
A suggestion from the been there done that club, get your sheet metal guy to make you a cover for the diesel tank. Reason being the sun will effect the plastic and the diesel .
@@glenmccusker462 I've had mine for three years no problems, I regularly tip the fuel into my car (about every three months) and replace with clean fuel. The other bonus is it's an extra 20ltrs if you need it.
Enjoyed the laughs this week, sounds like your getting cabin fever by being stuck in the warehouse. Hope you get it all finished in time for your travels next weekend. Enjoy yourselves.
Just a tip, when putting on new backing plates they need to be centred. Don't tighten up just do finger tight then put on the drum and castle nut and tighten up the brakes. This will centre the backing plates. Then back off brake and remove drums. Then tighten up backing plate bolts. Then fully adjust shoes, back off from tight 13 clicks. Well done on the Reno
I'm watching now . 2.40 Sunday arvo . I noticed your rear water tank has a flick tap on it . I have taps on mine so I can fill the tank from the fittings as opposed to ill from the normal filler points on the side wall . And the a gurgling painfully slow process. Just what I do . And remember to take of the side filler cap off to allow pressure from the tank to escape. 🎉
While originally asbestos was used in nearly every brake system, health hazards related to the substance gave cause to develop and use several other materials in the making of brake shoes. Steel, copper, iron and several alloys with durable and heat resistant qualities are often used in the production of brake shoes
Hi Alex & Erin. Just a bit of info…we were advised that the white tanks that come with the heater degrade a whole lot sooner than a black tanks. I think they last for quite a good while. My hubby went to BCF one day and they had a spare wheel on special ($15) and he bought it and covers the white tank with it to protect it.
Wow! Nearly there and Bertha is looking great. So proud of you both because it's a lot of work, very stressful I am sure yet you remain faithful to your commitment. Well done. Really looking forward to the day you're back on the road and enjoying the fruits of your labour. Awesome😀😀😀😀
Spigot is a ring insert like use on mag centres, axle is with bearings, Spin hub while tension up bearings to help seat up . Best practice is to wash out old grease, not to contaminate new grease, place visual roller inspection
Great episode as normal. With the brakes either replace the drums or have them machined. Reason being the surface is not flat as its all grooved from the last set of shoes etc and from the last magnet. This will cause the brake to take longer to wear in and not brake correctly until they are worn in. If you replace the drum brakes and reuse the old bearings ( which is fine) make sure to remove the bearing outer race from the old drum and place into the new drum as they are worn together and are matching.
If you put the diesel on the other side it’s where you sit and you would get the fumes from it. Love the show and could you do a caravan build and show us how it’s done.!! Great stuff. Chris from Western Australia.
That bolt that wouldn't come out will probably clear the swing arm if the caravan was on jack stands and tension taken off the jack so the swing arm moves past the bolt.
Man how damn good is it looking now. 😂🤣 Leisa just told me to shut up as I am telling (shouting at tv) for you to put the washers back on as you did up the front bearing 😂🤣 Old Shoes and pads use to be made of asbestos but now made up of different metals etc. Also sure it’s been mentions it’s a stub axel 😊
Thanks for sharing the rebuild, we really appreciate it. Wouldn't you put the diesel heater tank up front where it's convenient when filling the truck and I would get a solid colour black PE tank for UV resistance. You have remineded us a few times of how lucky you are to have that shed for all this work. That stub axle and the hub with bearings and you would need a new inner seal to remove the large inside bearing.
Stub axle. Spigot 😅. Just a tip. Diesel doesn't like sunlight. It can go a bit gummy. So if you're going to have diesel sitting in the tank for a long time, paint the tank black. Some will disagree, but that is what I advised to do by a diesel mechanic and a guy at the RV centre. The jobs comkng along well team😊
Hi Alex Why didn't you get a piece of aluminium tubing from Bunnings and put that between the diesel tank and the caravan It will make it easier to fill the tank
I don't know if it's been mentioned or not but if you have the clear poly fuel line that is supplied with the chinese diesel heaters, bin it and install a diesel rated fuel hose (black rubber). I used the poly hose supplied with my heater and had to replace it after twelve months because it had melted and left a big patch of diesel on the ground.
He should know better - He "used to build caravans". Looking good guys! How about putting some axle stands under the van? Have you never seen what happens if the H/jack fails or worse still gets knocked and it looks like it's on a wooden block which is a no, no! Placing your rim and tyre underneath the axle will stop it from dropping too low so you can be rescued, should you be unfortunate to be the bunny to get caught. Erin, safety first always. Have a plan always. I reckon the stub axle (not spigot) and bearing should be thoroughly cleaned before applying plenteous amounts of grease, before putting the cover cap back on. My old grandfather was a stickler for greasing the trolley wheels. A spigot is a faucet or tap.
I AM wanting some one to build me a van so you are hired after the muster, i have a head full of plans but am unable to do the work these days, but probably wont be able to 2use after i got it made
Get rid of that cleat tank, or encase it. Otherwise you’ll have trouble with your diesel. That’s why the more expensive heaters come with black tanks A simple cover will do the trick Yeah and I think your assistant is a bit lippy today😂😂
For the effort it takes. You really should do the other bearing in the hub. Particularly because the old brakes got that hot and locked up. You've destroyed grease, most likely buggered the seals integrity. Unfortunately, that shortcut could well and truly do you a mischief.
Not sure why you never put the fuel tank on front, same side as your car is, then it's a no brainier fill the car and top up the Diesel heater fuel tank at the same time, Erin was half wright and the fitting you put is perfect for frount passengers side, good luck guy's
Just me, but if you change your shoes then change your drums mate, You dont change pads and not the discs. I think you guys are going well, can't wait to catch up next year.
You guys are so clever. Love watching your videos.❤
Thank you!
Good recovery with the axle nut washer. I was telling you but you couldn't hear me. My better half told me to stop yelling at the TV.
😂😂 I wish I was a fly on the wall when this is happening!
You guys are doing a great job. I repair caravans so I feel your pain at times. I believe that you two are the most real with your TH-cam travels.
Thanks so much!

👏 bloody brilliant video. I love Erin’s questions (I never knew the difference either in brakes 😂). Keep it so real guys ❤
Thank you!☺️

Alex, the diesel tank needs to be the black version.
The white ones aren't UV stable.
Will deteriorate in sun light.
Personally I replaced mine with a plastic Jerry can.
Thanks
And you will end up with algae in your tank. Which can block your filters.

As a person who alegeley used to build caravans, you should know to paint you chrome sokets black before using them on a ratel gun
😂😂😂
Haha yeah I forgot to convert them to high impact with the paint 😂

Glad you guys stuck with it you’ve done a great job and gave us loads of giggles 😂
Thanks guys!

Happy holiday..
You really need a pair of 3 ton jack stands Alex
Hey Alex don’t forget to adjust the brake shoes and all 4 the same adjustments so even to the drums.
Thanks!

Hi Erin please tell the caravan builder the easiest way to figure out what size the nuts are is measure the size of the bruise on his chin.
😂😅😂.
Hahahahah we laughed so hard at this 😂
You’re terrible, Muriel 😂😂😂

earballs. thats a new one 🤣 Spigot = Stub Axle. Nice job!

@@nowornever_aus easy to do but the way you had it laid out you would’ve seen it 👌

I feel like this whole job would have been a whole lot easier if you knew someone who used to build caravans 😅
😂
Those centre caps are hot lol
😂 I agree!
Brake shoes are made of a combo of steel wool, wire & copper? Do you have the tyre pressure monitors on every tyre? As they can fall off easily.
Thanks! Yes we have them on every tyre, haven’t lost one yet 👍🏻

Curious why you didn't get a cover for your diesel
Something we will have to look into doing 👍🏻

YES PLEASE8 Tyreas 2 sares😊.
Fun vid😊

if you want to go to the other side dont roll it just rotate it horisantantly
The fittings wouldn’t have been right unfortunately
That tank will not last long in the sun but it will last longer then the cap.. better off getting a metal one.

I put mine in the front locker same side as car Diesel filling cap
Just didn’t want the fuel lines running so far being such a long van, may not be the most ideal but we’ll make it work 👍🏻
Don’t know if you checked ,but the drums probably should have been machined.
Thanks, they were pretty good but I will still get them machined 👍🏻
why not buy another bin bag
Happy with just one and don’t see the need on spending the $$
The brake pads/shoes used to be made of asbestos

The false laughs and the only one impressed is your misses ,you're winging it and I feel if you are showing what to do ? Do your research!
Yeah, I'm feeling much the same.
Thanks for your feedback mate, we are by no means doing a how to though, just showing what we are doing to the van 👍🏻
