I read this book last year right when lockdown started, and the timing felt perfect. After hearing so much talk about "returning to normal," the book helped me reflect on how important it is to let go of an idealized past that we use to project onto an idealized future, and the value of going through hardship we always want to avoid. Thanks for this discussion! It brought back great reading memories!
Thanks Johanna, this was fun to do 😎
Just finished this last night and felt the exact same way. Also my 1st Stephen King book
If I had read that book when I was unemployed, I would have missed at least one day of hitting the pavement looking for work.
The color red, red as in red rum.😦
By far greatest King novel of the modern era!
Agreed 😎
This is one of my favourites of King's more recent work so I'm stoked to binge on this bad boy :D
We go all through it. Let me know how you think we did, brother!
@@EveryoneWhoReadsitMustConverse It's a thumbs up from me :D
Yeah, Jake wasn’t ideal for the job, just couldn’t play it cool enough. But my birthday happens to be Sept. 9, coincidence?!?! 🤣 I think not. I was made for that portal. This was great to listen to. Thanks, gentlemen!
Pleasure Kari! Thank you (and I hope you find your portal 😉)
I’ve wanted to get to this. Fun podcast!
Subtitle- Scott and Noah vs The King 😎
I can't remember but was there ever a reason he didn't do a quick 2 min trip like the test phase and just kill L.H.O immediately to see the effect
Great podcast, guys. Really enjoyed it. I agree with you that this is one of his best works. Very dynamic, very gripping, and I love the fact that the first 50 pages (the scene at Al’s diner) sounds EXACTLY like the beginning of any great golden age science fiction story. Also - after reading this book I felt like looking for really “original” root beer because of his incredible description of how delicious it used to be in the early ‘60s 😂
Ikr, the beginning is very strong and fast, dropping you right into non-stop plot.
On a side note, I hear you don't think much of Slaughterhouse 5? 🤔
@@EveryoneWhoReadsitMustConverse Haha that’s right my friend, we might have finally found the book that we do not agree on! (which is great) I have very little love for SH5 and, in general, for Vonnegut. I agree with Christy’s criticism in her latest video and I think a lot of smart people like Una (Codex Cantina) and yourself might be seeing a lot more in that book than what is actually there.

I think this book was a comeback for King; his stuff had gotten a little subpar up until. This one proved he still had some gas in the tank. One of his best since the millennium, definitely.
It had been so long since I read a King before this. Thanks F4LCON!
