      @@byhsu6140 And also a death trap. The doors are paper thin and on trails you have to move your body around and shift the center of gravity to prevent it from rolling over. It also can't negotiate a lot of ditches or cross deep rivers due to its ultra short wheelbase and low wade depth. I've driven one before and love how light it is on mud and sand. But most people who have never driven a Jimny before view it through rose tinted glasses.

    • @jensalan
      @jensalan 7 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Plastic is almost always cheaper than metal. The more plastic they can get away with adding, the less metal there is to source and form. Plastic is lighter, probably cheaper to source, and they can make crazy shapes/forms a lot easier than with metal. For example, bumpers on most vehicles now are just plastic bumper covers. Trucks are one of the few exceptions that still have metal bumpers. But even then, they're moving more towards plastic bumper covers.

    If it is body-on-frame and not unibody based off TNGA-C platform (corolla cross etc) then it'll be on TNGA-F in which the minimum wheelbase can be 112.2". The J250 / GX550 / LC300 are all already at the shortest wheelbase for the platform but of varying lengths (193.9" in J250, ~197" in the GX and Land Cruiser). The platform's smallest engine is the 2.4L turbo as well.
    For comparison the FJ cruiser had a 106" wheelbase with 184" in vehicle length
    I wonder if it could be like the tahoe/suburban where it's body-on-frame but with independent suspension front and rear

      Never cook again. GA-F can be adapted to even shorter and longer wheelbases. Only the width of the frame stays the same (but you can add additional width to accommodate larger bodies). Also the smallest engine to go into GA-F so far is the 2TR-FE. Doesn’t mean they can’t install smaller or bigger engines. Also they haven’t designed independent rear suspension for GA-F unfortunately.

    • @chibbyylol
      @chibbyylol 7 หลายเดือนก่อน +2

      @aqer possibly, i was just going off toyota tnga-f specs where it's stated it supports wheelbase length from 112.2" minimum to 164.6" maximum but who knows. Was just looking at engines that are used on those platforms vs ones mounted transversely on fwd vehicles

    Plug-in Hybrid with big battery and power outlets in an off-road vehicle like this would be super attractive to us. 35 kWh and NEMA 5-20 (20A 120V outlets?) Good way to mount antennas like Starlink, too. Yes, most desirable here in northern Utah, too. Towing hitch and hooks, for sure. Don't really need high water fording depth, but ground clearance and large tires are of interest.
