The premise is SO GOOD, but we get ...this.
i got a fanfic with this as a premise and when it's finished, OFF WITH THE SERIAL NUMBERS

The AUDACITY of having Fallon have to apologise to Ben was so absurd my mind defaulted to "fuck off" as my immediate reaction. The concept of the same date thing is nice - kinda reminds me of One Day, but it otherwise sounds like a total shitshow.
Great review of both this and Verity!

I honestly think this would have been better if they had...split Ben's character? Like made Ben the love interesst and the guy who burned Fallon two characters. And have the plot twist be the guy showing up and confessing, which derails Fallon's journey.

It is annoying sometimes that my brain sees and understands how these things work out as they do given the information presented. I say that because I'd like to just say, dude that's just wrong and not have any understanding. Based on the information you gave, it would strike me that in his warped brain, he's trying to fix what he did by "caring" for her and trying to force her out of her trauma. He's a little boy trying to put bandaids on his mother's favorite vase he cracked. The mother wasn't wrong I think in asking that she see out the whole story and at least know what the whole picture was. If he was bent on fixing things, he may not have seen how to say anything to her about the fire face to face. So he wrote it. The problem in the end is his "fixing" worked in her mind. He'd not meant to hurt her and he tried to make it better. She was damaged enough already for this to work. So she forgives him. It was sadly inevitable.

One day, there will be a book where the one who wronged the protagonist, then tries to fix the wrongs will get kicked to the curb and the protagonist stands up for themselves.
