Thank you again for covering these books! I read the first one, Shadows of Foxworth, and had to force myself to finish it. I found the main character deeply unlike-able! She is beautiful, responsible (cooks & cleans), valedvictorian, dating the "most desireable" kid in school, and is so stand-offish to her "best friends" its a miracle she has friends. Just a completely unrealistic teenage girl. And knowing a man wrote the parts where she fantasizes about "crossing the rio grande" was just grossing me out. She wasn't written anything like a teenage girl except for the parts about her sexual naivety. Ew. Anyways, so I couldn't make myself read Echos, it was hard to finish the first one. So I really appreciate having your summary! And I feel so validated knowing you didn't like these books either lol. I hope you and your family are doing well!

I work in an elementary school, a grade 6 student asked if we had this series at school. No small human, we absolutely do not.

My biggest issue with Cory being brought back is that, if it had been left ambiguous, like there was no confirmafion in the books beyond the first one, id be like "ok, i guess", but we literslly learn Corrine kept Cory's body in the attic to visit as a morbid shrine

The memory police legit left me with a whole in my chess that couldn't be filled for a long time, I didn't read anything else nor watch anything I just sat there processing, I have to get me a copy tho I listed to it and I just can't. Loved the Dorohedoro anime but my library doesn't have any manga (they said that manga promotes devil worship/homosexuality and is not "eDuCaTioNaL" , yes is one of those libraries) so I'm planning on getting my hands on some physical copies but is nice to know I wasn't the only one obsessed with it. Also I'm gaining courage to read the summer Hikaru died cause I know is going to make me suffer. Also also I would like to recommend Convenience Store Woman by Sayaka Murata

Of all the Neiderman retcons, bringing Cory back to life is the worst of all! Cory's death was the catalyst for everything that happened afterwards, and for Neiderman to just trivialize it and be like, "gotcha, he was alive all along!", is such a slap in the face to VC Andrews' memory.

One thing people always forget to mention about Cathy's revenge scene on Olivia-and, to me, ramps up the crazy by a thousandfold-is that Cathy enters the room _in her ballet costume_ and _dances_ around Olivia's bed as she is inflicting the punishment. That's some vintage VC Andrews right there. 😘

I love that you make these videos so much. I may have commented this on another video, but I love learning about this series because at its core I feel it's such a great horror premise. It just gets more and more intense and tragic, and you get to see the effects of what happened in the original book, how it's acknowledged that there's such deep-rooted torture and long-lasting trauma. There's so much unspeakable tragedy, but it never seems to be just for tragedy's sake. There's a narrative purpose to the awful things that happen, and that's what makes it such a great instance of horror. I always think of Lolita, not to compare the two necessarily, other than in the way that they both have very deplorable themes. In my experience, people tend to cast them aside solely for those themes and look at the books as "bad." But isn't that what horror is? Exploring the most uncomfortable themes possible in an interesting and thought-provoking manner. I'm a fan, I've known about it since the Kiernan Shipka movie came out, and I've unfortunately still never read the books. I wanna read the original but I think you've got me covered on the others lol. So glad to see FITA content after all this time. <3 PS. Cory being alive? All I can say is bruh

I have issue with calling Henny and Yolanda's writing harmful. Henny, while yes, appears to be written as an infallible, perfectly wonderful "mammy" type, has unique flaws and traits that are never directly tied to her being black. Same with Yolanda. She may be a catty girl who sleeps around, but so? So what if she is? It's never attributed TO her being non white. You can't be mad when a POC is written to be perfect AND be mad when they're written to be imperfect. Catty, promiscuous ballerinas are kind of like.. their very own trope. Both in THIS book and in media at large. If there's any damage done in specifically Yolanda's characterization, it's that she's mean and jealous of Cathy, just like EVERYONE else because Cathy is just SOOoOO damn perfect.

Kind of disappointed that this was just a summary of the plot and not an analysis of the work

These are the only Dollanganger books I haven’t read. Sounds like I’m not missing much but I’m so glad you’re covering them.

I don't even know how to process that Cory is alive, how? Also, you have to be a poorly creative person to revive a character in order to have something interesting in your book, this plot destroyed one of my favorite things in the original books that showed what a horrible person Corine was

WTF? How does this make sense?

Honestly Kristin should have been Jory and Tori's daughter or even more so Bart's; a child of the Dollanganger family born after all the tragedy ended, who till this point knows nothing but rumors and legends about her ancestors lives. Hell, her dad is names Burt! One letter off from Bart, so just make her Bart's daughter! And her name is basically an homage to Christopher, either son naming their daughter that would be lovely. Plus how weirdly obsessive she becomes with the diary is just like Bart with Malcolm Foxworth's diary and the creepy incest undertones of her fantasizing about Chris! Why the heck is she not just Cathy's granddaughter?! Would it have made these books better, probably not, but it would have worked better then a random distant relative no ones ever heard of.

The doctor could’ve been Cindy’s kid or relative because she was adopted, that would’ve at least made sense.

The ghostwriter is just making up random shit to milk as much money from this series as possible, I really don’t like that. VC Andrews family also, they have squeezed as much as they possibly could from this stone.

I don’t like them bringing Cory back, that’s BS.

The added sequels to the Dollanganger saga, decades later, is honestly so insane to me. Not about Christopher's Diary, but about the prequels about the first Corrine, the summary for them makes me laugh. It's genuinely such a copy and paste of the other books. Including Garland being like how Malcolm was in Flowers in the Attic, at least according to the summary.

This kind of seems like if Hoover read the novel Rebecca and then went 'hm....imma do that, but badly. And with more ableism."

Thank you for being the guinea pig and reading this series so we didn’t have to. I remember downloading the first Christopher book back in 2016 or so and leaving it after the first few chapters. When the wig came out, I stopped and was like wtf of course oh goodness 😭😭🤣🤣🤣

I read these, but barely remember them. They were awful. I recently picked up the 3 prequel novels, Beneath the Attic, Out of the Attic and Shades of Foxworth and decided to give them a try. While still not good, they were at least more entertaining then the Christopher's Diary books. It was fun to read about the original Corinne and how she came to give birth to Malcom and then abandon him when he was only 5.

Didn't you get the unwritten memo? It should have been understood that Bart had another psychotic break (since he didn't see Corrine's psychologist), and he set the house on fire, killing himself, Cindy, Jory (who couldn't get out bc the elevator conveniently broke). Jory's kids moved overseas, and became classical dancers in Russia and want nothing to do with their Foxworth heritage, so the ruins just sat there. Also, the diary was protected by a magic spell that was hidden behind the portrait of the devil and the fire that the kids first saw when they were locked up in the attic in the first place.

Every time I hear “if there be thorns” I have to go YARR IF THAR BE THARNS

The twist in this book is so stupid!!
