    Thank you for this quick and concise review. I’ve been trying to find out if the cord was inside or outside and you’re the first to mention it.

      There is a GFCI type plug on the end with a built in circuit breaker FYI

    I had a look in the manual to see how you flip between F and C units. Doh! Simple single button right there on the remote - no fancy button combos required. Enjoy!

      Hey Richard - no worries - purchased via Costco in Canada. If I recall was something like 899 or 999 Canuck bucks delivered. Very good service and warranty... thus is actually my second unit but would buy again.

    Hello FIXIT and FIT dad....great video... what else have you been fixing, I need to check out all your other FIXIT projects... how is the rest of your home conditioned? I have an R2D2 unit and its been a LIFE saver in our tiny 950 sq ft 110 year old mansion....in Calgary, we moved here 15 years ago for BIG oil and gas...and IT... for our small space it works wonders, the R2 unit...but do have the heat at the output source so keeping the unit close to the vent which I have insulated well.... thinking of grabbing one of these as a back up... but this LAST WAVE of killer heat is drawing to an END, like COVID...except the weather is predictable.... COVID is not. its funny, 2200+ viewers but it does not show your subscribers.... Do subscribers help, when are you paid by TH-cam for subs?

    • @fixitdad899

      Hey Steve. Thx for reach out!
      That heat bubble was crazy! I've spent some time out in beautiful Alberta (worked in Canmore for a spell and wifey and I seriously considered move there but still stuck in 'The Six'). I know heat/cold drier than back East but holy crap... you guys got mummification temperatures there. And hey... I'm not knocking the R2 units loved 'em for years and do still have just in case.
      For rest of house typical forced air gas furnace in basement with associated central A/C. System has hard time pushing cold air to 3rd floor Master Bedroom. For years I attached an R2 unit to a gas fireplace (has large exhaust port) to cool. 'White noise' ... was significant. :-)
      Last year DIY installed a hard-wired mini-split purchased via AMZN. Love love love it. It's near silent - dehumidifies AND it flips into heat mode during winter.
      Took some doing but very pleased with it. Hope to post vid of that project over the summer.
      My pet project right now is that I'm trying to put a DIY 3D printed water jet impeller affair onto a stand up paddle board. (There is a very poor vid posted of the jet drive unit in kitchen sink). Powered by Li-Ion pack and much bigger motor - eSkateboard controller. Think eScooter but on water... what could possibly go wrong?! Have a great summer! Just got our second doses.. AZ first Pfiz second. That makes us AsZizers?!?! Ouch. Stay safe and hope you have great summer!

      I forgot to answer Subs question. To be totally frank I don't make any $ from my efforts thus far. I started posting during covid more as a personal journal of the stuff I fix and to justify my existence in the house to my wifey! But... I got to thinking that if I'm fixing or evaluating things others must be too.
      When I searched for items vids were often close but not exactly what I was after. Maybe my versions might be of value to others. Also works as a kind of bonding and tutorial project with/for my own kids...they are great at ridiculing errrr I mean guiding me on how to do things. When I'm gone maybe they can still view Dad in vids via their Infotainment implant?
      If I can get to 1000 Subs and start to make a shekel sp? or two that would be nice but not my main driver.
      Thanks for asking.

    Have you found it works well? I have been thinking about buying one for a tent trailer, but the reviews online are horrible...?

    • @fixitdad899
      @fixitdad899  3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      I have a park model trailer with a Florida room attached. I originally purchased for the trailer. In order to install semi permanently I punched 2-3" hole thru wall to pass the umbilical thru. Detached umbilical from inside unit / passed hose thru wall and reattached. Worked like a charm until... came back in the spring and the refrigerant charge seems to have disappeared.
      I purchased via Costco in Canada. Received a new unit via warranty...the one in video.
      Long answer but point is yes works well for trailers too! But...do not recommend detaching umbilical ever even tho you can. And if you can store indoors off-season couldn't hurt. Costco..good warranty if any issues within 1yr. Best wishes!

      I'm struggling between waiting for the 10,000 BTU unit to come back in stock or to go with the 8,000 BTU unit. I'm assuming both have same build quality, etc?

    • @fixitdad899
      @fixitdad899  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Cant speak from personal experience but would assume they are basically the same unit. Smaller motor and refrigerant in smaller. If you can buy via Costco low risk purchase.

    • @fixitdad899
      @fixitdad899  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      I've even heard of people buying things and using them for less than a year while they await another thing to come into stock and then returning the initial purchase. I have a number of eScooters that came onto the secondary market that way. Not recommending ... just saying. I haven't done this myself.

  • @Mannievh
    @Mannievh 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    Can you drill a hole though the wall and feed the AC lines out and connect the compressor outside without passing it though a window? I’m trying to figure out if this could be used on my enclosed trailer where I don’t have windows

    • @fixitdad899
      @fixitdad899  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi M - we have a 12 wide trailer and I did exactly that with one of these units. I needed about a 2 1/2" hole (8ish cm).
      You can detach the umbilical from the inside unit. It has a clamp /valve affair.
      BUT.... fair warning to you. Worked great for the summer but when I came back after winter and tried things out the follow season it would all run but wouldn't cool. Somehow the refrigerant charge seems to have evaporated.
      Connection? Umbilical damage? Will never know. Good news is Costco fully replaced via warranty.
      I had been nervous about installing a proper minisplit. I've since installed a bigger unit into trailer and love it. It heats and cools and if you are capable of punching the hole in trailer you can probably do same too. Either way all good. Happy trailer season!

      @@fixitdad899 hey! Thanks for the info and reply. I’m sure you’re right it just lost pressure on the Freon somehow.
      May I ask what new mini split you purchased instead? And does it plug into a regular 120v outlet like this one does? Thanks!!

      Nope no wall plug but yes 120V... you have to hardwire this one with a remote electrical disconnect box etc. Permanent install and does require a vacuum pump. (Buy on Amazon and easily resellable). Not too thought to do though. Love that it's a heater too.

    Do you have to recharge the thing every year or does it keep its refrigerant?

    • @fixitdad899
      @fixitdad899  ปีที่แล้ว +3

      It's a great question. This is actually the second unit I've owned.
      The first went back to Costco for replacement because it lost its charge.
      But... here's why. The umbilical ships detached from compressor. There is a really neat clamping mechanism that reminds me of a can crusher. Very easy/quick to couple and decouple. Maybe too easy?!
      In theory you can decouple to store and only lose a tiny amount of charge.
      I had first unit at weekend trailer and at end of season split the pair. In spring the unit had apparently lost its charge when I recoupled as a result.
      I have not had any issues with this replacement unit - 3+ yrs now. I have only coupled at install and have never split them since. Don't recommend anyone split them once commissioned.
      Hope that helps.
      Best wishes!

  • @bentlikeitsmaker

    How well does it work compared to standard portables

    • @fixitdad899
      @fixitdad899  3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      When you say 'standard portables' I'm taking that to mean floor type R2D2 affairs or window sill 'rattlers'.
      First off the main difference is noise. Both of the aforementioned are extremely noisy inside the house because main working part of machine is in the house. The main noise making compressor and fan etc. on this one is outside. The next most significant thing I notice is thermal 'waste'. Especially with standup units. Their 6-8" diameter exhaust air hoses radiate a lot of heat back into area you are trying to cool = counterproductive.
      On the slightly less positive side ... do you get that 'head out the window of a speeding car on a Toronto January day' feeling when standing in front of this little guy...no.
      It doesn't blow too hard but it blows well. And that is A-OK. Hope this helps!
