I have thirty some tattoos I got back when I was an unbeliever. But when I started to read the Bible after being locked up for gang violence, one of the things I stopped doing was getting tattoos. It is what the LORD says he doesn't want us doing and I want to be as obedient to the LORD as I can be because of His love for me. Doesn't mean I'm more holy by not getting tattoos but I know that as believers we should be obedient to our Heavenly Father.

A small testimonial, I was saved this year and
about a few months ago I was listening to an online sermon while cleaning and I heard God telling me to take out my piercings. I had the inner corners of my lips pierced, the upper inside web of my lip, and one that went straight through the tip of my tongue representing a snake 🐍. He told me they were holding me back and I knew they were too. I also have over 50 tattoos, regretting all of them. I got on my knees and cried because I told myself for years that I needed them to make “me”; “me.” I told myself I was going to be the cool grandma. I have seven kids and I remember having the want to express myself freely as a teen but my folks where extremely strict that eventually I rebelled and promised I wouldn’t do the same to my children. That day I realized that I don’t make me; me, Jesus does. He told me to no longer mutilate my body. I took them out that day which caused two days of anxiety and crying... but that was just the uncertainty and detachment from my former self. I am so thankful to the Lord. I feel so much freedom doing what God asked me to do. I have received so many unexpected blessings out of this. If your body is a temple and you represent THE ALMIGHTY GOD then why would you desecrate it! Praise be to Jesus, I pray that anyone who reads this the Lord makes Himself known to you as He has me. ❤️

I took my piercings out too. They were holding me back too by the way people looked at me like I wasn't respectable and the fact that I can't get a job with piercings. I also stopped coloring my hair crazy colors like purple and pink. The thing I regret most about the piercings is the fact that the holes by my lip corners didn't heal and I have to get plastic surgery to fix them. I hate the half healed holes in my face and want desperately to save money to fix them. If I would have known the piercings would leave holes like that in my face I wouldn't have gotten them.

Graffiti is ART! Intentional art! What are your intentions in your heart! You decorate a sacred temple to glorify God. It’s very simple, and people want to make rules black and white... Jesus surveys the heart. Who do you want to glorify with this body art? Just because YOU see it as ugly “graffiti” doesn’t mean GOD does. Be careful of projecting that onto God and His people. His character is made known all throughout Scripture, and my Jesus would not ask the question you’re asking. It’s a shallow understanding of the human heart and what God wants! He doesn’t want a “clean sacred temple”! He wants a heart that honors Him with EVERYTHING.

@@talshaharfamily Seriously, one verse in the OT and you are going to use THAT one verse to condemn tattoos. You might want to consider digging in a little deeper to glean the truth principle here: "The Bible is not clear on tattooing. There is only one passage in the Bible where it mentions it - “Do not cut your bodies for the dead, and do not mark your skin with tattoos. I am the Lord.” (Leviticus 19:28)
This passage, including the surrounding text, is specifically dealing with the pagan religious rituals of the people living around the Israelites. The focus here is prohibiting worldly, heathen worship and witchcraft. God forbids his holy people to engage in idolatrous, pagan worship and sorcery like those who do not follow Him.
Look at the previous two verses. If getting a tattoo is a sin then so is eating non-kosher meats and getting haircuts. (“Do not eat meat that has not been drained of its blood,” “Do not trim off the hair on your temples or trim your beards.”). Back then these customs were associated with pagan rites and rituals. Today they are not.
However, since tattooing is such a controversial issue today, it’s important to examine your heart and your motives before you make the decision." www.biblesprout.com/articles/salvation/sin/tattoos/

Now, some, like Ray here, may try to weasel around this commandment by saying that it ONLY refers to pagan rituals. This is explicitly NOT the case: Only the first clause is qualified (e.g. you shall make no cuttings on your flesh FOR THE DEAD) so, cutting the flesh to dig a splinter out of your hand, for example, would not be prohibited. However, the second part of the clause is NOT qualified in any way. The second clause is NOT dependent on the first clause, either. It is just mentioned in conjunction. Print markings on your body is ALWAYS prohibited, according to this commandment.

@@JLH1956 I agree. Ray genuinely cares about spreading the Word of God and does so with sincerity. He also shows many fruits of the spirit which I admire. That´s why I was shocked to see him literally scoff at Psalm119, which talks about the Law of God. This type of disrespect for God´s Law would also be congruent with the false teachings he sometimes offers. This makes me think that he is aware of what he is doing in that regard, not just acting out of lack of knowledge.
I know that many of these erroneous teachings are what comes out of most seminaries these days, but that doesn´t make it any less false. Are we to follow God´s Word or the word and traditions of man? I, for one have made my choice. The biblical Sabbath is but one example, in addition to this whole "tattoos are ok" nonsense.

    Some food for thought......
When deciding to get a tattoo, I think one other very important thing should be considered. "Who is operating the instrument? "
If you're going to get a tattoo and you're not doing it yourself, do you trust the operator to NOT mark you in ways which you do not approve?
I've known tattoo artists who boast about hiding "666", pentagrams and other questionable things in their customers tattoos (Sadly, it was utterly hilarious to them). I couldn't believe that on a purely professional level that someone would do this to their customers. In my opinion, It's exponentially worse that someone would willingly risk allowing this to be done to them.
I personally do not have any tattoos, never really had any interest in getting any and knowing this was definitely a deterrent/talking point when people have tried to convince me to get one.

If that's not terrifying already, I don't know what else to say to "christians" that proceed to getting tattooed by anyone!!!! I knew 4 girls in my church that were great! God used them a lot! They went working on television, and suddenly appeared getting tattooed and posting it on Instagram...... Within A WEEK they were out in the world again, left church, got naaaasty boyfriends, and use really short clothing... I'm not saying this to judge them, but to say that it's really important what we do and who we do it with. In life, not only tattoos! We claim to be the wise and owners of ourselves... But we seem to forget our lives do not belong to us anymore, but to God! Very sad...

I sensed He still didn't want me to do it. Anyway, after months of asking Him and reading the Bible, He CLEARLY told me (in my mind)...I SAID NO AND THAT'S THE END OF IT!! Lol...I never got the tattoo and I never asked God again about it. It's sad that, as Christians, we sometimes do whatever we want with our bodies and don't even consider or ask God what He thinks about it. It's like saying, I'll involve you God in every decision except this one. Thanks God but I'll decide on my own. Not good!

I spent a year looking into scripture about whether or not to get my tattoo. Since the commands against tattoos were specifically in context of pagan worship practices, I finally came to the conviction that it depends on the motive and heart behind getting one. For evangelism (and ONLY for evangelism), I used to write the date I came to Jesus on my wrist. People would ask about the date, automatically breaking the ice for me to witness. Eventually, I decided to go ahead and get the tattoo instead of writing on my wrist every day, and even then I got it small enough so that I can cover it when needed. If the tattoo is simply for vain purposes or commemorating the dead...which most tattoos are...then that would be breaking the LORD'S commands as I understand scripture.

The world loves to do so, football players that are not with God love getting biblical tattoos, or crosses. Thats does not save or make you a better Christian. Tattoos came from pagan places, and so did the Christmas, easter, etc. If tattoos were Holy or Christmas etc the world would turn away from it and the Bible would say to do so. Also tattoos can get you infected in your blood, and mess up your skin when you are older. Our body is a temple and we should not harm it.

Amazing to hear Ray Comfort say that tattoos are ok. As a bus driver in a big city from 2006 to 2014, I witnessed the era when gorgeous girls never had tattoos. Suddenly I noticed more and more chicks getting on the bus with tattoos ranging from the almost unnoticeable to whole legs and arms covered. I had to stop myself saying "wow, you used to be a gorgeous chick until you got that tattoo". It's an unchangeable step. In Australia, the tattoo industry is run by bikie gangs. Do you think they will put Godly symbols on you - incantations of demons most likely? Look at those pagan cultures which have all those tattoos - godly? I think not. If you got them before you were saved, well, ok but to get them after, it's probably worse than having an abortion because a tattoo advertises to everyone how stupid you are. Someone said on the video, all things are permissible - really. Forgiveable but not adviseable. It's nothing but disfiguring yourself permanently. Just imagine when a girl later wants to marry John, but she has "William" tattoed on. And when you're 60+, how lovely it will look on your sagging skin - excuse me, what did that that tattoo read when you were young, I can't quite make it out?

As you all pointed out in this discussion, tattoos and marks on the body for the dead had a pagan origin. I think it is helpful to reflect on where our modern-day tattoos have their origin... Is it a Christian origin or a pagan origin? My understanding is that tattoos have a pagan origin. Leviticus 19 tells us itself that it contains moral law!
2 Speak unto all the congregation of the children of Israel, and say unto them, Ye shall be holy: for I the Lord your God am holy.
God proclaims that many of the commands given in Leviticus 19 are for our personal holiness. In fact of about 25 commands found in Leviticus 19, around 20 are moral laws. Verse 11 talks about stealing and lying. Verse 17 talks about hating your brother which Jesus himself taught was morally wrong. Verse 29 talks about prostitution.
28 Ye shall not make any cuttings in your flesh for the dead, nor print any marks upon you: I am the Lord.
In verse 28 God has two commands
1 - ANY printed mark (tattoos)
2 - Cutting your flesh for the dead.
The only way a Christian could say Tattoos are morally ok
would be to say the slicing your wrist is also morally OK!!!
In verse 28, God repeats the words "I am the Lord" emphasizing that these commands against all tattoos and cutting your flesh is about personal holiness.

Bill R we dont "pick and choose" what laws to live by. We live by the MORAL LAW. THOU SHALT NOT LIE STEAL MURDER IDOLIZE ECT. And when we fail at that and sin. Thats why Jesus Christ died for us. We repent and have faith that he will save us. Because we ALL SIN. Nobody is perfect. But when it come to other things not written in the 10 commandments, for example Tattoos, dietary laws ect. That is based on your personal convictions, what the holy spirit says you can and cant do. That is what being lead by the holy spirit means. If it tells you NOT to do something even though its not written in the 10 commandments then it will be a sin if you do that thing. But that same thing might not be a sin for ANOTHER Christian because it is not written in the law and they do not feel convicted about it. Its not "picking and choosing" if we were to live by ALL OF THE LAWS we would be living like muslims. All that matter is that we love God with all our hearts(which will lead to us reading the bible going to church prayer and fasting and other works) , love our neighbors, turn away from our sins (lying stealing muder ECT.), lead by the holy spirit, and HAVE FAITH IN JESUS CHRIST. we are not called to say what is a sin and what is not.

Saying any other law is "sin" is just straight up religion.

"Love your neighbor as yourself " is your tattoo a tool to serve others or open up a godly conversation. If the motive is not met , not serving God nor neighbor, then reconsider it. Also. You can use your tattoo when you were a nonbeliever and use it as a tool to serve God and neighbor. It's a great tool to share your testimony and follow up with a godly conversation. Cuz God is good! Some people know and believe who created us. God created us perfect and with purpose. People would not and will not destroy the Mona Lisa painting by Di Vinci, the 16 Chapel by Michelanglo or Starry Night by Gogh. Why won't people pencil, mark, paint, graffiti or even touch the paintings? The oil from our fingers can and will change the color of the painting over time that's why people forbid spectators and visitors at museums from touching the paints (even if it's not the original). Why do people value, worship, praise, protect and place those artists' paintings on such a high pedestal but, dishonor and destroy God's creation? I enjoy and appreciate art. I've always wanted a heart and a cross tattoo but, I refrained because God created me without those on my skin. Putting a tattoo on the body shows a dissatisfaction of the creation, it's not enough. After they get a tattoo then, they're happy. I'm not being legalistic, I'm satisfied with what God gave me.

So for me the tattoo issue is cleared by the Bible & the Spirit: Tattoos are NOT inherently sinful. Like anything else they can be used to sin, but not an evil practice in general. The verse that caused all the controversy is in Leviticus 19:28. If read in proper context, you will see it specify "for the dead." That means in this time period, this cutting of the flesh was being done as some spiritual act that was wrong. It also is said in Levitcus not to cut your hair or trim your beard. Or wear mixed fabrics. These all apply to a certain culture, in a specific context, for certain reasons. None of the examples I listed are inherently wicked; heart motives matter. Levitcus 19:28 was also used by man to condemn body piercing, but we can see in Ezekiel 16:12 that God stated approval of nose rings & earrings Himself. 1st Corinthians 6:18 also clearly states sexual immortality as the only sin against one's own body, which leaves tattoos out. The "temple of the spirit" argument against tattoos is also a misuse of context, as this verse speaks specifically of sexual immortality. Also I have the leading of the Spirit; if He has indeed turned me from sexual sin, drunkenness, gossip, complaining, etc etc...He certainly would've changed my heart on tattoos as well if they are evil. If I wanted to sin, I would indulge in those other things. But I love God, & see them as they are. Lastly, when they raise the point in the video of possibly harming one's witness with tattoos- I disagree. The Bible says in 1st Samuel 16:7 that, "..man looks at the appearance but the Lord looks at the heart." Jesus also says people will know us by our "fruits," by "obeying God," & by "loving one another." Not whether or not we have tattoos. If someone assumes our heart by our outer appearence, I believe they are actually in sin by using man-made opinion for judgement, rather than the discernment of the Spirit. That is ungodly, & I feel it actually hurts their witness; not mine. John 7:24 says,
"Do not judge by appearances, but judge with right judgment." Likwise someone may outwardly look good, or be "clean-cut" & be evil. ("White-washed tombs.") God is NOT religious legalism, & one who follows the Bible rather than man's opinion is free & points others to Christ. The dying world desperately needs the remedy of JESUS, not false rules & dead religion. I believe when people look at someone like me with a unique appearence (tattoos, piercings, colored hair) AND the fruits of the Spirit, it messes with their wrong perceptions of God. It defeats religious stereotypes. God is the author of creativity & ALL things. I believe He delights in me, inside & out.♡ We need to know our Word

It's all about intent as you said and a snooty Christian makes for a terrible witness to the loving and accepting nature of Jesus. I do believe that now having come into faith in Jesus, that our tattoos from here on out should be an expression of that faith and love but other then that go for it!!! May the Lord continue to use you as a vessel that attracts the lost and confounds the proud and wise!!! The Lord bless you!!!

Then there are moral laws for all people of which the 10 main ones are the 10 commandments written by YAHUAHs own finger. You would think Him writing 10 instructions on granite with His finger means it is very important. Christians dont think so. They spit on His instructions and think HE will just have to accept it. That YAHUAH would just have to change and get with the times.

No focus on those same moral laws anymore. they can basically do what they want. As long as they go to church now and then pray and read the bible, it will all be fine. So I'm going to pull a few random "do nots" from Leviticus 19 besides the tattoo one and long hair Paul spoke about, if you have not broken any of these in this whole passage then maybe I'll listen to you...
Do not plant your field with two kinds of seed.
Do not wear clothing woven of two kinds of material.
Do not eat any meat with the blood still in it.
Do not cut the hair at the sides of your head or clip off the edges of your beard.
Stand up in the presence of the aged, show respect for the elderly...
So tell me that you've never shaved a day in your life? Or tell me none of you clothing is mixed with another material? All the meat you've ever eaten has been completely drained of all the blood? Do you always stand up when an elderly person comes into your presence???
Scripture indicates that John the Baptist was a Nazarite from the womb, dedicated to God, Jesus said John neither drank wine nor strong drink which someone who is under the covenant of the Nazarite vow would never do, Jesus said John was greatest among men, if you took the Nazarite vow you had long hair because you never cut it, and what about Samson??? Like Paul said because of Jesus we can do all things but if your convictions doesn't allow you to do something then don't because you'll be sinning.

I wanted a tattoo for a long time but as time has progressed, I have changed my mind on it.
I don’t believe that God will condemn people who have or get tattoos. But we are image bearers and so we must take that into account. If you have tattoos that are related to the occult or are provocative then I would encourage you to remove them. We are spiritual beings and the things that we watch and listen to have a great effect. People think it’s only a show or it’s only a song, it’s only a tattoo but the truth is that there is a spiritual realm and there are those who belong to our Lord and those who chose to follow satan (demons). And even though not everyone has seen this, we all have felt it (recognized or not) and it is active. I’m not judging anyone. If someone had told me this several years ago, my reaction would have probably been a bit hostile. The further in you go in the faith, the more that the Lord reveals to you, you grow in biblical knowledge and understanding. I know a TON of believers who are covered in tattoos that are about Jesus.

Wished I had stronger morals and leadership in my life back then but was very lost. Unfortunately I have to live this life with them. We’re all bound to screw up in one way or another, and it’s by the grace of God that we can be forgiven and Him glorified by our weaknesses. There’s nothing that can’t be forgiving when we turn from our sins. And our value comes from our faith in Christ, not our outer appearance… but avoid tattoos if you’re ever thinking about one. They aren’t worth it, I can promise you that.

I was into tattoos before becoming a believer. I use to look in the mirror and admire my tattoos. Now I don't even look at them or care. I have them already so they are what they are. At least they are good tattoos.
But I don't think they are necessarily a sin.

Lucida Rose The one on my chest says “buddy” inside a rose. That ones for my dad that passed. My whole arm is done with tribal ink. That was the tattoo I got when my dad was in the hospital before he passed. It was something that helped me out along the process with “Jesus” I have my wife’s name on my chest as well. And “ only god can judge me” on my ribs. I mean sure I could say I wish I didn’t do this or that in life. But God doesn’t look at what hes going to do to me. It’s what he’s going to do for me. I look at my mistakes and try not to beat myself up. Just go with my walk with God doing my best. I’m happy doing that. I have a more then blessed life. My wife is getting radiation treatment for her breast cancer right now and due to covid I can’t be in the room with her right now. I thank God she is able to get up in the morning an for another day say she loves me. I thank God for that. I will not listen to everyone trying to comment these I know every answer situations when it comes to the Bible. I’ve done terrible sins.. ones that haunt me... but I still woke up today. I still have tattoos. I’m still a sinner! But by God thanks for Jesus and his mission to save the world.

I know I'm years late to this conversation but if we're not bound by the Old testament rules is that mean we're not bound to the ten commandments? I'm a little confused on that 😅 thank you for the video 🙏

As the chrisitians we should not be skirting the Very Important issues and topics of the day. As we must know our audience, and our audience is everyone, even those with and without tattoos. We should answer their questions.....Should I have my tattoos removed once I become saved? TRUTH is Priceless!!! God Bless

The poor, the widow, and the orphan still exist, if you or I have extra money to just throw away at such things like tattoos, why not give it to one of these, or perhaps an organization like the salvation army, or a local food bank? If you had tattoos before you were saved, they are fine, and God loves you just the way you are. Why even consider getting one, or another, when there is more important work to do in His name. Go buy some food, and give it to someone having a difficult time financially, and give, not wanting anything back. And remember, if you are asked why you're being so kind, trust God to give you a good answer. You will feel much better than putting dressings on a few ink marks, that won't matter in the long run anyways. (Store up your treasures in heaven, and not in whimsical earthly endeavors.) Be a good steward with God's things, like money, and show Him the respect He deserves with them. A little here, a little there... Build a great place, for your place, in the Kingdom of Heaven. Do they not exist anymore? The poor, the widow, and the orphan? These people actually need help financially. I would prefer helping them instead of a little 'ol tattoo.

I'm always amused at how many "perfect", judgmental and holier-than-thou biblical "experts" there are on TH-cam. The self-righteousness is nauseating 🤢.

Personally since I got saved I'm not attracted to tattoos anymore. I got them when i was a teenager and I didn't know Jesus. Now I want to get them all removed, they don't fit who I am anymore. I'm so different everything changed for me.

Levi. 19 contains commands both moral and civil.. It has 20+ moral commands - stealing, lying (v11), hating your brother (v17) and prostitution (v29) The question becomes - in which category do tattoos fall? Verses 26-31 all deal with moral laws (mostly about occult practices) Includes commands against practicing enchantments(v26) practicing idolatry (v27) worship of dead, self mutilation and tattoos (v28) and practicing witchcraft (v31). For more info watch my video.

For the dead. Also this was a time when people would harm themselves severely in mourning. This is still done today in some cultures.

Tattoos were a Pagan practice but so are decorating "christmas" trees, yule logs, and so on. Easter was originally a Pagan holiday as well... yet many Christians do these things. Why?
