the only thing I'm thinking is when people will start tuning them with 100+ hp from stock, R will put all the power to the road where I think GTI would struggle with that much power only with front wheel drive.
My youngest just picked up his first GTI. White metallic pearl. Beautiful car. Manual. Drives perfect. If anyone here is a real race car driver please give this kid some advice.

Good point - though it’s hardly like joe said this (or any car he tests) is a total spotter - as you say he’s very honest - I always find very very balanced too! And natural how he says it!
Great work mate! I'd still like this video even if you didn't like the car but I'm glad you do. This video really gets over the magic of the Clubsport especially in comparison to the still very good R which has been hogging the headlines because of its amazing performance on the drag strip. 0-60 in nearly 5 secs was a nice suprise too! The 2 on track would be very interesting indeed, can't wait 🙌
@@JoeAchilles1 It didn't get off to the best start after the dealer had left the transportation chocks attached to the front suspension during PDI. I have to say that the CS looks far better in real life than it does in any videos or images.

Great vid, Joe! Demoing a Clubsport next week with a view to replacing my Mk 7.5R with it. I’m also considering the Mk8 R but I like the fact it’ll sit under the £40k even with options and feel it might be more fun to drive. I also prefer the appearance especially the interior trim. Brilliant car!
I'm amazed every time a watch some car review, with the amount of car channels on the YT. And they all seem to survive. Whether they have 100 k subscribers or 2 million. All of them get these new cool cars to drive, they all make a decent living out of it.. I can't understand that there's a market for all of them and that manufacturers are willing to give their press cars left and right to whoever asks.
Great video Joe! Interesting about your comment on the 128ti, I've just filmed with one of these and was very impressed by it. That must make this GTI Clubsport a pretty serious piece of kit!
Any plans to drive the new Cupra Leon, Joe? I'm strongly considering getting one. Seems to be more or less the same car but with a better interior and a lower price tag! Still has fiddly temperature controls though, but physical buttons on the wheel!
1:38 - that rear corner shot .... if it was not for the 'GTI' badge, you'd think it was a Tiguan. Cover that left side of the scren area with your hand if watching on a tablet. You'll see it.
It's incredible how an ordinary family car can be pushing out so much power.. that was the equivalent to what a ferrari would of been pushing out years gone by..
Hot hatches have come a long way. I had an 1984 XR3i in the 90's and my last car before my Leon Cupra was a Skoda vRS Octavia Diesel that was quicker than the XR3i. Like the old hot hatches are now like warm hatches.
Great little review. Glad you mentioned the sticker kit - I think they look far to 80's!! Can't believe they cost so much, but nice little pakage! (And why does video make LED lights flash?? Never understood that!!)
Is it good enough to upgrade from my Mk 6 gti? Mk 8 lots more power, but I have all the tech plus a manual gear box. I’m not sure I need more power on the public road...

You always mention does car shift up automatically in manual mode, but what I want to know too, will car automatically downshift, for example, if you are at low speed in 4th gear and you do press full throttle, will it go in second if that is best option or stay in 4th. That was also irritating for me in some cars with automatic gearbox and so called "manual option".
I currently own a Golf 8 1.5L 150PS and I am looking to buy the Clubsport part exchanging it with my own. One key matter needs to be mentioned. The 7 speed DSG changes at the rpm it wants to, even in Sport Mode, unfortunately. However, if you figure out when the gearbox changes gear, you can press the paddle and shift almost simultaneously. Even with the Golf R, the same problem persists. But its completely normal because the computer knows better than you. Great review
Yeah you're right, I actually love it upshifting when I'm in manual, especially just before getting on the brakes for a corner, exactly what you want in a hot hatch 👌🤣
Yet another Clubsport showing it's rear camera as it's being driven fast around a corner? 12 seconds in and again at 11:14. The Top Gear review of the MK8 Golf R with Rory Read showed the same thing. Some comments on that vid said that maybe Rory was brushing the wheel buttons and one was setup for the rear camera. Odd.
Mentioned in video not take Moonstone paint to lower the price, then the only choice would be white as all the other colours are double the price of Moonstone. Great video, sorry but only own R-line 2litre TDI in Moonstone with a sunroof and winter pack.
