These may be the "top 10 Christmas towns", but almost every little town decorates a bunch for Christmas. My town puts lights on a giant pine tree in the middle of town, hang lighted wreaths from street lights, tinsel/garland wrapped around the rails of a bridge in the middle of town, and place other decorations/lights all over. But the impressive thing is what the HOMES look like. People go all out. There are houses that started putting their decorations up a few weeks ago and they draw a huge crowd (they even have lights that sync to music and there's a station it's synced to, so you put it on your car radio and the music you hear is synced with the lights). There are tons and tons of houses that put lights up and driving home at night is absolutely magical.

Eggnog is traditional holiday drink dating back hundreds of years, eggnog is made with eggs (hence the name), milk, cream, spices like nutmeg and vanilla, and fortified with rum, whisky, and/or brandy.
    RECIPE:
    6 large egg yolks
    3/4 cup sugar
    2 cups milk
    2 whole cloves
    Pinch cinnamon
    1 cup heavy cream
1 teaspoon freshly grated nutmeg (lightly packed)
    1 1/2 teaspoons vanilla extract
2 tablespoons bourbon, or to taste
2 tablespoons rum, or to taste
    4 egg whites, optional
    DIRECTIONS:
Beat egg yolks, then add sugar:
In a large bowl, use a whisk or an electric mixer to beat egg yolks until they become somewhat lighter in color. Slowly add the sugar, beating after each addition. Beat at high speed or whisk until fluffy.
Heat milk with cinnamon and cloves:
Combine the milk, cloves, and cinnamon in a thick-bottomed saucepan. Slowly heat on medium heat until the milk mixture is steamy hot, but not boiling.
    Temper the eggs:
Add the eggs by slowly adding half of the hot milk mixture into the eggs, whisking constantly while you add the hot mixture. Pour the mixture back into the saucepan.
    Cook until eggnog thickens:
Cook the eggnog on medium heat, stirring constantly with a wooden spoon, until the mixture begins to thicken slightly, and coats the back of the spoon. It helps to have a candy thermometer, but not necessary; if you have one, cook until the mixture reaches 160°F.
Do not allow the mixture to boil, or it will curdle. (If the mixture does curdle you may be able to save it by running it through a blender.)
Remove from heat and stir in the cream.
    Strain and chill:
Strain the mixture through a mesh strainer to remove the cloves and any curdled bits that may have formed. Let chill for 1 hour.
    SIMPLE TIP!
In a hurry to serve your eggnog? Chill it in an ice bath.
Stir in vanilla extract, nutmeg, and bourbon and rum:
Feel free to omit for kid-friendly eggnog and proceed to chill.
If you you want to include egg whites (optional):
Beat egg whites with an electric mixer until they reach soft peaks. Add a teaspoon of sugar and continue to beat until they reach stiff peaks. Gently fold into eggnog.
Note that because of the salmonella risk from raw eggs, it is recommended that children, elderly, and people with compromised immune systems refrain from eating raw eggs such as the optional whipped egg whites in this recipe, unless you use pasteurized eggs.
You can also reheat the combined eggnog and egg white mixture over a double boiler until it reaches 160°F, then remove from heat and let cool, then chill. The mixture will lose some of its fluffiness from the beaten egg whites, but not all, and the eggnog will be much airier than without the egg whites.
    SIMPLE TIP!
Eggnog will keep for several days in the fridge, especially if you've already added liquor (which acts as a preservative).

Hey Adam how you doing today? 70 year old southern country gal here. Going to shorten it and start having 70yrSCG from now on. I live in a little small town called Liberty Tennessee it's about 50 mi east of Nashville TN. Liberty Tennessee is so small we only have a post office ," but come Christmas time , oh Lord honey Christmas lights everywhere there's decorations in the yard , and we have Christmas lights on the trees and the bushes. We all start putting up lights right after Thanksgiving. Talk about being beautiful. Our county seat is in a little town called Smithville and all the streets are lined up with different kind of Christmas things. We have our Christmas tree lighting celebration, we have Christmas tree decoration contest to see who can have the prettiest kind of Christmas trees made. All kinds of festivals go on at that time and of course we do have our Christmas parade. I'll make a small video of the whole thing come Christmas time and send it to you so you can see how we celebrate Christmas. During our Christmas parade we have floats that celebrate everything from the fire department, Police department, our military and our veterans, plus floats that celebrate a whole lot more. That's beside the bands, the carolers, the old trucks and cars, and the people that are all on horseback. We all LOVE to celebrate Christmas. I still just enjoy the heck out of watching your reaction to different things whether it's music people or places. It's always a real pleasure watching ya. May God Bless you and sending much LOVE to you and yours. I hope y'all stay safe and healthy honey.❤❤❤❤❤🙏🙏🙏🙏🙏🤗🤗🥰🥰🥰

There are also a lot of festivities throughout December wherever you go, such as drive-through light displays, horse-drawn carriage rides, winter markets selling hot apple cider, gifts etc. Every city also has an annual Santa Clause parade which usually happens on a Saturday or Sunday in December. I just assumed every town looks like this at Christmas. It makes me sad the U.K doesn't do this. In my ignorance I just assumed it was normal everywhere lol.

You go out and play in the snow or walk around the neighborhood and get cold, and then drink warm spiced cider or mulled wine. 8:01 There will be homes that don't decorate for Christmas in the US, sometimes blocks but you can usually drive (or walk) to another block where everyone goes nuts. Here in Portland Oregon we have a tree and skating rink in the city center. Even though we usually have rain, not snow. Only a couple people on my block decorate, but a guy on the next block has so many lights you can probably see it from space. Plus he has a TV playing popular Christmas shows out his front window.

You’ll experience southern hospitality (especially if ur an outsider) great food, and a whole new culture you probably never knew existed. I live about half a mile north of city hall and murphy park which is where glendale glitters is hosted, the surrounding neighborhood called the catlin court historic district has tree lined streets with houses ranging from the 1880s to the 1940s and many of the old houses have been converted into shops, restaurants and even a few museums. all the trees are lit with lights and in total an area of 16 square blocks is lit with 1.6 million lights. typical events include a performance of the nutcracker, live music, food tours and my favorite is glendale glitter and glow, where they land dozens of hot air balloons on the streets at night and use the torches to make the sky glow. it all starts the night of thanksgiving with the mayor lighting the city tree and it lasts until the middle of january. i actually bought my house in this neighborhood because of the old town atmosphere while still being close to the urban center. on my block there are about 40 houses, and of those 30 or so will decorate and pretty much every street is like that in this area.

Rochester, New York area here. Egg nogg is ambrosia, the finest tasting thing in the world. Back in the 50s and 60s the larger department stores would host Breakfast with Santa in the month of December. Our downtown currently does not do a lot for Christmas, but the surrounding towns and suburbs are well decorated. Where I live, we have several neighborhoods that put on their own holiday drive-throughs. 2 or 3 square blocks where every house, tree and shrub are festooned with lights that are coordinated/synchronized through a computer while you can pick up their own low watt radio program playing Christmas songs. Not to mention all the yard blow-up decorations. Some ask for a food donation for the local food bank while others charge admission. (Since you are here in October, they may already have some for sale at Home Depot or Lowes, along with assorted holiday lights) You can start to bring "Christmas" to your town - just start (for you) over decorating the house. Lots of lights and cheer and I'll bet others will start to join in the fun.

Businesses decorate independently but all decorate. We have a week of events which starts with Santa riding into town on a Shrimp boat to a tree made out of fishing net and buoys. There are 4 main parades for each of the bigger towns each followed by a festival of food, art, and gifts. There is also the water gun parade where a parade of decorated golf carts spray the crowds with water guns because it’s still in the 80F range. Then last they do a boat parade in one of the rivers. For reference we are a coastal county. All of our towns are separated by bridges and consist of 3 rivers, 2 bays, and the Gulf of Mexico. After is the last festival which features a sand sculpture contest. Then our entire county shuts down for 2 days (Christmas eve and Day of) and you are lucky if you can find a gas station open.

Leavenworth, WA is such a neat town. I was there last summer. It’s like you're walking through a cute little German town tucked into the mountains. Lots of beer, brats, and other European tasty items.

I love my town of Lawrence Kansas, downtown is lit up with Christmas lights, Thanksgiving weekend Santa lands on Weaver's Department store and the fire department rescues him from the roof with a hook and ladder truck. He then hangs out to speak to the kids. We all so have an all horse drawn Christmas Parade that is charming.

From seattle here. Leavenworth is amazing, (all year round) and truly does look just like that in the winter. It's occasionally referred to as a Bavarian Disneyland. It has regulations regarding the exteriors of the buildings and I believe only certain fonts for lettering on businesses are permitted.

I live in the small town of Stroudsburg, Pennsylvania. They do it up real nice for Christmas. Just a few years ago the town got a Netflix sponsorship to get decorated by the company. It was beautiful.

I live in small town in Georgia. Very Christmas, all to the street lights are decorated, the town square, small as it is, had massive Christmas trees, in the back streets, light are strung for the light post to light post, we even have a small parade of Santa going to our small mall. In the evenings, carolers go around the town, singing and the shop owners give them cider. We are small but we celebrate. If you go into Atlanta, you will blinded by the lights.

Hello Adam. My son does a computerized Christmas light show at his home, usually starting after Thanksgiving every evening. You can drive up the street and turn to a radio frequency to hear the music choreographed to the lights. It is called "The Lights on Forest Hill" While the display isn't as large as some, it always brings a smile. You might check TH-cam during that time period.

Almost every town has a particular area that. Goes crazy for Christmas and every house decorates. The rest of the town takes a night to drive by all the awesome decorations. I live near Grapevine TX it’s unbelievable and so fun.
