    Great video and very informative! One thing I'm not sure of with this. When you lift the door handle to lock the manual way it also allows the catches inside the door to engage as part of the door mechanism. If I close my door and then later decide to lock it with the app, the lock will engage but the additional catches on the door won't as this requires physical process of lifting any handle (smart or not) to move them into position. I think the z wave module is only truly useful with doors which don't have a multi-point lock (mostly uPVC).

    Will it auto-lock behind you when you leave the house? Concerned if used on a HMO that people might forget to manually lift the handle each time they leave the house. Also what functionality, other than Alexa being able to lock your door, does smartthings actually give you? Can you manage access keys remotely? Say someone lost a key and you want to disable it without actually visiting the house, or you need to give access to someone who doesn't have a key while you're out of town etc. etc. These would be useful things to know from someone with the system, as this information doesn't seem to be readily available.

    How did you find the battery life after you installed the Z-wave Module? I have read alot of reviews on amazon who mentioned the life of the battery went from 6 months to just under a week!

  • @steve8361

    The motors inside the lock cannot engage the multi-point locking points. Only lifting the handle can do this. After you have done this you can remotely unlock/lock the dead bolt but what is the point? If you didn't open the door, the deadbolt would just reset to locked anyway. If you tried to remotely lock the door without lifting the handle it will not work. Same as you cannot turn the key until you lift the handle. But once you have, you can turn the key to lock/unlock as many times as you like and that is what he is effectively doing. If Alexa told you via Smart Things that the lock was unlocked you would have to go to the door and lift the handle. By all means Mr Tech, please prove me wrong but given what I was told by both Yale and Samsung today says you will not.

    Will the Yale lock actually lock without lifting the handle? Understandably, the multipoint locking system of the door won't engage, but it'd be good to know at least the middle bolt will be thrown across if the "lock" is actioned.

    • @horch69
      @horch69 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      The multi point locking system prevents the deadbolt from moving across unless the handle is lifted. This is part of the door and not the Yale lock system.

    • @MartinRobertson1969
      @MartinRobertson1969 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi. I'm afraid the information in this video is not entirely correct for all door lock types.
      If you have a standard single bolt euro-cylinder mortice lock in your door, the motor in the lock will rotate the barrel (in place of the key) and deploy the mortice bolt.
      However, if you have a multi point locking system on your door, you normally must first turn the handle of your door upwards to throw the bolts on your door into place, before turning the key to lock the door, you must still do this manually.
      The Yale Conexis L1 can't do this for you.
      The motor in the locking mechanism mimics the turning of the key only in the door, which is why the mechanism only replaces the original key barrel.
      One feature you do retain, however, is when the door is unlocked but the handled isn't turned to retract the bolts the door will re-lock after around 60 seconds.
      I hope this helps explain your problem.

  • @Jamie_D
    @Jamie_D 4 ปีที่แล้ว

    I've been struggling with this for ages, i don't have an actual smart things hub but i have a zigbee hub built into my alexa plus, and before i purchased the z wave moduel 2 i checked and was told it could work with the echo plus as the hub inside was zigbee. But for months now i've had no luck, the smart things app won't allow me to add the lock without a ziggbee hub registered, and can't seem to register the echo plus as a hub even though it's zigbe.
    So i've tried searching for the lock with the alexa app with my echo plus enabled and the smart things skill enabled as well, but after pressing the button next to the module, 3 times super fast it can't find it.
    Does anyone know a workaround way to do this, as i purchased the echo plus to use mainly with smart home stuff that doesn't work with my hive hub, which was pretty much just the z wave module, and after spending around £200 total on the echo plus and z wave 2 module i don't want to be spending over £100 on a 3rd smart hub in my home :(
