Should also take a look at Aphelios, the previously most complicated champ before this as an ADC. It eventually got balanced but that was one hell of a release.
He's much more complicated than Hwei imo. 5 guns, all interacting with each other differently depending what's in your off-hand and how you use q/ult. Hwei just has more abilities, but they're all super straightforward
Yeah i thought about it after also, Hwei only has more abilities on paper, but Aphelios is a lot more complex when it comes to combinations and gameplay
@@FollowGrubbyYeah Aphelios’ difficulty isn’t mechanical but forward thinking based But Riot confirmed he was directly inspired by Invoker and trying to make a League/Non mage version
Really love watching you dive into League of Legends. It's making me appreciate the game again, as I personally stopped playing several years ago (although I still tend to follow the professional scene). It's very interesting to see the design of the newer champions, as well as your reactions to the existing characters and mechanics. I also love your approach to trying out new champs, where you spend some time in the practice tool and even think of hypothetical situations that may arise. I used to just pick the champ in a Normal game and wing it... typically rather unsuccessfully.
Been watching you since hots, love that your playing league now! I personally have been playing hwei support and he's worked out well so far, lots of poke but can do utility with speed up to rush down opponents and shield is alot stronger than it seems at first. You can try him mid but until he gets a few more buffs on cool downs I think sup best spot for him. Keep up the great work!
While League isn't my cup of tea it's always fun to join you in exploring new games. I think Riot may have taken inspiration from how Smite made their Invoker style hero Merlin.
@whatdothlife4660 Red blue and purple classes reminded me of Merlin as well. And pick one skill and get variation is similar to other smite gods like ishtar, Morgan le fay q or tiamat ranged ult.

As a guy who doesn't play league, seems like mephisto and orphea and lucio smashed together. :o I wonder if stun or knock up attacks will disrupt your combination que.. and how will be play early game with no abilites for combos.. :o
Another champion called Orianna had a ult miscast problem, similar issue to what you described. Some years ago they added a 0.75 second cooldown for her ult when some events happen, as a quality of life thing. Maybe this new champion works the same way? i.e. Maybe when HWEI cancels a spellbook the ult enters a 0.75 second cooldown to prevent miscast?
It's interesting that they are calling the submenus "Spellbooks" because that's the name of the Warcraft III ability that lets you have submenus with abilities
People think this hero is complex and similar to Invoker but the shared cooldown per book really hampers what he can do in a teamfight after you blow your initial combo because you lock yourself out of damage spells for a good 10 seconds and utility spells for about 15 seconds so basically you're a one pump chump that blows his load and then just gets to cast one useful spell at a time every 2 business days. Also a good chunk of his spells are just "X skill shot that does damage and maybe slows them" doesn't have the CC or survivability that comes close to Invoker.
fear doesnt update when caster moves, fear direction is calculated when the spell hits, not when cast, thats why they run in a different direction if you cast and flash
