Octatrack and Digitakt - War in the rear view mirror

Some smooth piano and bass this time around, performed on the Octatrack and Digitakt using the latest 1.50 firmware.
As usual I recorded everything beforehand with Reaper using a bunch of plugins: Audio Thing Wires, Cableguys Shaper Box 3, UAD compressors, EQ's, etc. I also used Reason for the piano stuff, I hadn't used that DAW in a long time now.
I then rendered the stems and performed the whole thing via the Octatrack and the Digitakt, no post-processing was done except for adding a limiter to catch any clips.

Hello and thank you for your piece which is easy to listen to. I hesitate a lot between these 2 machines that you have to record and jam with my modular. I'm afraid that the octatrack is below sound quality level in particular be disappointed by the fx, is there a big difference in the fx between the 2 machines from your point of view?
I think in terms of sound quality the Octatrack is absolutely fine, it has more effects than the Digitakt and can play stereo samples so it has many advantages. But it's difficult for some people to master it and get the most out of it.
If you're planning on recording and looping things in real time without stopping a performance then the Octatrack is much better at this. But if you just want to sample and then program everything in advance then the Digitakt could be just for you.
It's hard to say really which one is better, they're both very powerful machines with fairly similar effects.

Anytime! If you're able to borrow or rent an Octatrack and Digitakt to try it out before you commit to one then that will be way better!
