  • This video is all about speed of play - knowing there is space behind you to turn into. But how do we receive a pass and turn with the ball to save valuable seconds? This video will show you how to receive on the turn as well as the common mistakes players make. We will also cover the difference between receiving on the back foot and receiving on the turn.

    One of the best video I've seen about football! So well explained. Brilliant breakdown of what to do AND not to do, concrete examples of players using the skill, which part of the pitch for what type of situation, great demo of the skill in slow mo and then the whole move from going to the ball to receive to the shot and even a suggested drill to practice. Will take the time to check out more your other videos. Absolutely brilliant (And I've watched hours of football vids on TH-cam). Thank you!!!! You've made my day!

    what should you do if there’s always pressure behind u like being man marked

    • @WantTheBall
      @WantTheBall  ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi Terry, pressure behind you would maybe play back to where ball came from or hold the player off while waiting for more options. Or you could invite the pressure and roll the man applying pressure behind. Generally would would lay off as the player coming is now taken out of the equation.

    So you would receive the ball on the backfoot?

    • @WantTheBall
      @WantTheBall  ปีที่แล้ว +15

      Depends on the situation and position you are in on the field. It comes down to where you are going next with the ball really. ie you are playing centre of field. Ball is coming to you from the left side and you know you will want to move the ball quickly to a player on the right side of field. It makes more sense to let the ball come across the body and receive on your right foot (back foot) and then push the ball into this direction to then play the pass.

      Keyword “on-the-turn”… yes, you receive on the back foot, but you also have to pivot on the standing foot while turning. On the wing you don’t have to scan shoulders or turn, that is you facing midfield and not your goal which you shouldn’t

  • @voetbalshirts1473
    @voetbalshirts1473 2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

    Receiving on the half turn is receiving on the back foot as well

    • @WantTheBall
      @WantTheBall  2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      When you receive on the half turn you will control with your back foot, but to change the opposite direction to play (as in a 180 turn) you have to turn. This is a completely different (and more advanced) skill to just receiving on the back foot. Many players (full backs and wingers especially) who are receiving a pass from centre of field to the touch line do not need to turn as their body position should be sideways open to the play (back to touch line) but they should receive on the back foot. This is my opinion anyway.

    • @voetbalshirts1473
      @voetbalshirts1473 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@WantTheBall I agree, it’s far more advanced in midfield and more difficult because you’re most likely to have full pressure on your back. Scanning before receiving is key

    What is the appropriate distance between you and the opponent to turn? So when is it considered as ‘ No space to turn’, what is the exact distance, around 2 meters between you and your opponent who is pressing you?

    • @WantTheBall
      @WantTheBall  2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Hi Hassan, this is a brilliant question and probably even worth a video on. In answer, it would depend firstly what format of the game you are playing as completely based on space. If we take 11 aside full pitch, personally I feel for a player to have the space to turn with the ball as a defender is pressing from behind for example you are looking at 3 meters minimum. 2 meters is too tight. So you need to check shoulders to gauge where how far away defenders are. If there is the adequate space that is que to turn and run at the incoming defender. If too tight (within 3 meters) I’d advise player to hold and play back or engage the defender then roll. You have to ask yourself - can I turn with this ball quick enough to face up the defender? Or will you turn with not enough time snd defender clatters you.
      In 5 aside tighter pitch it is different. This is why pro football players are so good and probably would be the best player on a smaller pitch with average players as they scan quicker and they react and turn far quicker whilst being aware of spaces. Hope this helps you.
