- Monterey, a captivating city on California's central coast, is renowned for its captivating blend of natural beauty, historical significance, and abundant marine life. Nestled on the southern fringes of Monterey Bay, approximately 120 miles (190 kilometers) south of San Francisco, the city boasts a rich tapestry of captivating experiences.
With a history that dates back centuries, Monterey holds a significant place in California's story. Originally inhabited by indigenous tribes such as the Rumsen Ohlone and Esselen, the area caught the attention of European explorers in the 16th century. Spanish explorers, including Juan Rodriguez Cabrillo and Sebastián Vizcaíno, arrived in the 17th century, and Monterey became the capital of Spanish and Mexican California.
Monterey gained global recognition in 1849 during the California Gold Rush when it served as the state's first capital under American rule. The historic adobe buildings of Monterey's downtown, known as Old Monterey, still stand today, providing glimpses into its storied past. Cannery Row, made famous by author John Steinbeck, was once the heart of Monterey's sardine canning industry, and it now offers a lively waterfront area with shops, restaurants, and marine-themed attractions.

No problem!
Looks like a wonderful place! You are so lucky you get to experience all the places you travel to and we are lucky we get to go along with you. Many of us do not have the time, the physical ability, and/or resources to do what you do. Absorb and appreciate your wonderful life.
So true! Thank you so much for your support!
I lived and worked in Monterey for six months after graduating from College back in the early 1980’s. Had a bad job experience there, so quit my job and moved back to Southern California where I grew up. I had always loved going to Monterey on vacations, but living there was not what I thought it would be. I found it to be very cold and impersonal, and very transient, especially since there was a large military presence back then. On Weekends, I would go 40 miles north to the town of Santa Cruz, which was much more like a Southern California town, similar to Santa Barbara, which is 25 miles north of where I live now. I have been back to Monterey since I moved away from there, and I must say it is much nicer now than when I lived there. The bike/walking path from Fisherman’s Wharf to Cannery Row and beyond was originally the railroad spur, which was what was there when I lived there. I did my senior project on Cannery Row, so I was up in Monterey at least one weekend per month while attending college in San Luis Obispo. Monterey is a nice place to visit, but not to live in my opinion.
It is very cool to see a video of a place I've been going to my whole life! I hope you get back because there is so much more to see in the area; Carmel & Carmel Valley, the 17 mile drive, Pacific Grove, Big Sur and more!
I hope so too!
I grew up visiting here often and every time we arrive we have big smiles on our face, it's such a beautiful relaxing place.
Couldn't agree more!
I live in this area. This is someplace I walk for my morning walks if you go past the aquarium up that hill and stay by the ocean it gets even more beautiful. That trail goes on for another long distance by the ocean and there is the town of Carmel and lots of other beaches in the area; and don’t forget about Big Sur. This is a great area to film. I’m from NY so I love watching you NY videos when I get homesick.
Very cool! I would love to visit some more areas when I’m back
I am from the Bay Area. This is such a fun area to visit, loved staying a couple nights with my husband/our little dogs!!
So cool! This area is amazing

@@ActionKid 43:11 What Day will Treasure Hunt the Ride open this Time? Will it be Today, June 7, June 8, or June 9?
It’s been so long since I’ve been to Monterey! It was looking beautiful 😻
It really is!
Monterey is absolutely beautiful 🤩 the sea lions are so adorable
It’s such an incredible place
I enjoyed your video and commentary so much. I grew up and went through high school and Beauty College in Monterey through1970 . I left before all the changes like Cannery Row was slowing down before the Aquarium was put there. It was a place for young adults and teens to walk with the sales of drug paraphernalia . I commend the people of Monterey for making Cannery Row into a beautiful family friendly place. I also was a young child walking the Wharf with all the family owned fish markets and tourist shops at the time in the mid 1950's . I remember the fish markets with all the fish out to check out and buy and to sit at an area to have shrimp cocktails given to me for free by knowing the owners.
I've visited the Monterey Bay Aquarium over 10 years ago for a weekend road trip and briefly walked around the vicinity, so it's a treat to see your coverage! 😍 I enjoyed the seeing Fisherman's Wharf and gorgeous water views from the Coast Guard Pier 23:30. 24:24 Wow, you got to be this close to the sea lions, so cute!! 🦭 I didn't know John Steinbeck made Cannery Row famous, cool! 😎 Thank you for sharing this informative and scenic walk, AK! 🤗
So glad you got to visit Monterey The sea lions were amazing to see!
Fabulous Review‼️
It's a beautiful city. Took a tour in the 80's down Monterey, Santa Cruz, Carmel, the Big Sur., Hearst castle. So much more I saw and the flight one way was only $88.00.
Very nice!
Bro I grew up there! I'm so spoiled with all the amazing things there.
One of places I miss the most about California. I used to take road trips there twice a year from Los Angeles. Lots of happy memories! That overcast morning sky looks familiar, ha ha. I’m glad to see the restaurants are still giving out free samples of clam chowder. I swear, you can get full on the samples alone. Did you take the ghost trolley tour at night? Highly recommended!
I didn’t stay long so I didn’t get a chance to experience the trolley tour. I had a great time!
You are my summer arm chair traveling. Thank you !
Thank you so much for this awesome walk ActionKid👌🇺🇸
You’re welcome!
Hey Action Kid, a Great walking video of Monterey & is educational as well...Someday take a trip to La Jolla ( cove ) Ca. 24 miles north of the City of San Diego, and you won't regret it... ...Artist, Old Naples Florida🌴🎨
I grew up in Monterey and walked that same streets when I was a kid. I love that place and it's has so much memories to me. Fisherman's wharf popcorn is the best. :D
I still love you Kenny, but can't believe so little mention of John Steinbeck when you're literally in Ground Zero as the setting for one of his most famous novels, and two of his others.
The Monterey Bay Aquarium, Carmel by the Sea, 17 mile drive, Pebble Beach are the main attractions in this part of Northern California.
You made it to my homeland!! Yay. I used to work on fisherman's wharf and across from the aquarium!
Awesome, it was my pleasure to visit
@@ActionKid Did u go into PACIFIC GROVE as well?? It's my actual hometown just past the aquarium there. It's known as the Home of the Monarch Butterfly
That was great❤ thanks Action Kid. Cannery row /
Make Caramel By the Sea one your priorities. It seems to never get any mention.
Nice
Carmel it’s only 15 minutes by car from there
spent a couple days there in 2014... enjoyed this walking tour of the sidewalks I toured !
Carmel is an amazing place!
Why has it been so cloudy in California this year
Actionkid the 🐐
There's only one country like the USA. I wish my country was like that.
The bay is one of the places to get your scuba diving certification so I’m sure that’s mostly what’s happening there
Por favor poner CC en Español, hay millones de Latinoaméricanos que hablan solo el Español y no entienden el Inglés. Gracias.
Wow I read that wrong haha. I thought it said "finest city" haha...I was like noo I missed a San Diego live. I didn't miss nothing though I guess...just kidding haha. Keep up the lives action kid!
Actually San Jose was the first
hello
I feel sorry for people who have mobility issues, the sign said no scootering and no motorized vehicles. They have scooters now for people who have conditions that prevent them from walking. I guess they have to by pass this area.
