Dimitry I have been following your work for a while now, and I am deeply inspired by both your performances as well as your knowledge and skill in building the da spalla. I am a Viola player and guitarist, and I plan to study in Groningen once I finish my undergraduate degree in music composition here in the United States. Do you have any advice how I could build my own Violoncello de spalla with no previous experience as a luthier? Thanks again. I would love to hear your performances one day!
Benjamin, thank you. You don’t need any previous experience. It’s really simple. Get a few blocks of wood, remove everything that doesn’t look like a violoncello da spalla, and the result will inevitably be your own VDS. Super easy. Playing it is even easier. Basically, it consists of moving the bow perpendicular to the strings and stopping the strings at the right time and place, so that out of all possible sounds, only the sounds of the suites remain. Simple. Very simple. I look forward to hearing your performances one day!

Lovely!!
Thanks.
