I'm actually in a similar position you were in before you left. I've been with the company for over 2 years, working as an sga since the beginning of the this year. My store manager left about 3-4 months ago because he was tired of the little pay and hourly cuts. (Also just the job in general) We all loved the guy and we still talk to this day. Of course since he left it left us crippled. Around the time he left we were given a new ASL. The ASL is a cool dude and works hard however the holidays were approaching with only 3 keyholders(including the ASL) and some really good GA's. I thought I'd get to step up and at least be moved to ASL and the current ASL would get to be SL. My district manager thought otherwise. The ASL and I have been working for 3 months straight with no help from my district manager. No pay raise. No hiring for firing power. And no promotion to give so we can get an extra keyholder for help with daily shipment of distro. (Even thought we asked multiple times) The district manager also took a week off for being sick with sniffles and needed bed rest while all of us at the store were sick and we couldn't take a day off because our 3 keyholders (including myself) were already working full time. OUR team worked so hard for this district. We loved this store to bits. What hurt us the worst is that just 1 week ago (after all the work we've done and after OUR team got through most of the holidays WITHOUT any help from our district manager, especially the last big launches and Black Friday) Our district manager decides that we are unfit to move up positions and ended up hiring a new manager that worked for the company less than anyone in the store(except seasonals). That hurt. We are all unhappy and thinking about leaving at this point. The district manager ruined everyone's experience working for the company. And as of Sunday, my ASL and I were suspended from work for working off the clock. Really sucks that the company does not care.
Why would you work off the clock? You deserve that suspension. I didn't love any company enough to work for them for free. I didn't care if they did threaten me with termination. I do not work for free and you shouldn't either.
I get where your coming from. my current job is in a hospital but not really. I work in the hospitals restaurant and all we get is a pay check and everyone else get benefits, paid vacation everything thing. and the higher ups expect this small restaurant and it 10 workers to work on God level. I've worked this place for 3 years man and I can't take it. I hate when jobs take advantage of you for cost reasons.
I was a seasonal GA last year and they gave me CRAP hours I mean they literally gave me like 3-5 hours a week and this year I got hired as a GA at another store and getting at least 20 hours a week and working 40 hours over the holiday weeks

i work retail resets suck lol. I've only been working retail for a year. i only get scheduled 2 or 3 days a week. I work more than that because I cover my assistant managers shift.
I just recently quit from gamestop. My manager was really bad. Never showed me where the schedule on my 1st day and got mad at me for missing a shift when I didnt know when I was working. 2nd Shift on Black Friday and worked 9 - 10 hours that day. Had 2 more regular shifts. My 5th shift I was on when then VP of gamestop and other corporate execs came in and peppered all the employees on questions and I didnt know 3/4ths of them because I had only been instructed to work the floor and generally know the store as a whole. They gave me super inconsistent hours and I felt like I was just the kid who could work whenever to my manager and not treated as a employee. Hell he never trained me to ring people up lol. My co workers sucked mostly as well. Decided to try to get a job at best buy.
Just quit my first location yesterday. Enjoyed but hated it at same time, gaming retail just isn’t what it used to be. Also district sucks. My manager didn’t know gaming at all but took over almost every sales pitch opportunity I had. It’s a dangerous area as well so customers were especially bad. The seasonal gig is a joke, 10 hour a week max. They really don’t care about giving you hours or good wage but won’t cut slack on time off and no holiday pay as you mentioned. So i feel your pain. I used to watch your vids a lot before working there thanks for the insight I am grateful for all I learned but digital has taken over and customer base is mostly clueless, shady scammers or obnoxious families.
I'm not sure about your specific state employment laws, but pretty much everywhere in the US, if they hire you for a type of work within a specific scope, and then they make you do other work outside of that scope equal to that of higher level and higher-paid employees, that's super illegal. They can't have employees with a higher title and more pay and then you, doing part or all of the same work on top of your agreed-upon job. I'm sure you know this, I just figured I would post it for anyone else in a similar situation. NOTE: Just make sure to ALWAYS get your scope of employment in writing at the time of hire.
so last year I bought dying light the enhanced edition from game stop in February when it was new. idk if you played it or beat it but mine isn't possible to beat. Im supposed to meet Rias at the top of the tower and when I get there and try to go up the ladder, the cut scene with the QTE doesn't happen. Im just left up there wondering around and trying to go up the ladder and activate the cut scene. you think gamestop could be part of the problem?
How recently was the "store manger 2 store" thing stopped? I know my new manger was doing that about six-eight months ago with another store, so I'm just curious if this happened that recently or if a few straggler stores are only doing it now.

I was thinking the same thing but I was already skeptical cause going there even as a kid I could tell it was a very shitty corporate company. The trade ins are rip offs, the power up rewards is bullshit now they have this new elite pro members which is even more bullshit, pre owned games are rip offs, (likely to get one that doesn’t even work than you bring it back and they give you back the same copy just made to look like they gave you a different copy.) the times I’ve dealt with corporate I’ve been ripped off too. So before I even applied I went online and looked at reviews and experiences from different people and I saw the same story from almost everything I saw. The good reviews are probably people inside gamestop corporate that are paid to give it a good review. Threw the idea of applying for gamestop out the window

+Drain could be a busier store or you doing a good job. Not all stores get the same payroll amount. Or maybe you are better then the other seasonals. Hard to say since I don't work at that location

Yeah, I remember that stupid program. It was a pretty crappy deal with no SM. Were you an asm or an sga? I remember my second store I was in as an sga and right before Black Friday we were closing due to 3 stores in the same mall, they were toasting the SM, the asm quit a month earlier, and I was made to do a lot of shipping out of products to the other stores in the district as well as help close out the store.
I miss a former manager named caesar at my local gamestop cause he was the main reason, I went to gamestop because he had a awesome and positive attitude and when there was a midnight launch especially batman arkham knight, he dressed up as the joker and he was gamestop at my local gamestop and once he was fired, my local gamestop hasn't been the same, its not as fun anymore and theres no hype for games as much and the employees who worked with him even miss him, the day those employees leave is the day I stop going to my local gamestop because they treated me and my friends and many others like we were family in a gaming community :'(

So, I worked for GameStop for just under a year. I was hired immediately as an SGA and for the first few months, things were fine. However, I soon started to see the rampant favoritism and blatant disregard for the job my manager had. Her name was Kat and she was in her early 20’s. She was more concerned with taking “sexy selfies” in the bathroom and talking about how she was cheating on her boyfriend with various other men. I had fairly decent numbers in preorder and used games. Hers were outrageous. I soon found out that was because of her rampant flirting with the customers and wearing slutty clothes that, frankly... any manager at any other place would be fired for. She also had a reseller frequently come in and gave him massive discounts because they worked together in his stall. (Him as a seller and her dressed in whatever slutty costume she had that day) Anyway, there was also another SGA that worked with me sometimes named Kaan. Kaan was a lazy piece of shit that bought the cheapest games he could find and than bought the “protection” on them to boost his own numbers. He also had a bad habit of sitting in the stepstoool directly under the camera where it couldn’t see him and playing in his phone all night, making me do all of the work. Over time, I had made friends with some of the regulars that came in and even got one of them hired under me. His name was John and he was a very kind, straight forward guy. Always diligent with his work and always smiling. He was a real asset. Well, one of the nights he and I are closing the store together one of our tills is short by about $300. It wasn’t an error on our part either. Our cock hungry manager had made an error with an online order she’d handled. A gentleman had ordered a PS4 system and she’d charged him for two. Understandably, he came in later that night with the excess system and wanted his money back. I called her and told her the situation and she authorized me to refund him and take the sealed product back into inventory. John and I closed the store as normal that night and things seemed to be okay. The following day, I am called into the office in back about 10 minutes into my shift. I’m ambushed by the DM and another higher up on the phone. They put me through a long lecture about how to prevent stealing and the like. At the end of the speech, the man says “So, how much would you say you’ve stolen from us? $5,000?” I’m in shock. I have no idea how to respond. I’d never taken a dime from the store, let alone any merchandise. They tell me that “we have footage of you the other night pocketing money from the til. We say you put it in your back pockets.” I tell them that they are mistaken and request to see this footage. I’m told, “we don’t have to show you anything”. I tell them the truth, that Kat made an error and that John was with me the whole night there. Although he was my friend at that point, he wouldn’t compromise his integrity and lie for me. He has a good character and i thought he’d be a prime witness of the events of the night. They immediately tell me that his testimony doesn’t matter. They “couldn’t see him on the camera” despite John and I both being less than skinny guys both cramped behind the desk. I was made to sign a “confession” paper and to write what I was accused of. I wrote the events of the night and that I was not there alone, but with a coworker who could attest to my innocence. This only enraged them. I was told I have to cross that out and initial it as my own idea to negate what I’d written. They weren’t interested in the truth. I was fired and told I’d be locked up if I didn’t pay them $250 on the spot. Well, being as I didn’t take the money in the first place, i couldn’t repay it. So, they asked what I COULD pay. Regretfully, I was honest and said I only have $150 free. They made me give it to them. After I did, they wanted to know why I hadn’t paid more. I told them, “I can’t give you what I don’t have”. Enraged and embarrassed about the situation ,I left the store without a penny to my name or a job to make any. All the while, Kat just looks at me smiling. I’m thoroughly convinced she manipulated the higher ups into firing me. I think she was mad I made her look incompetent at her job when I reported the til shortage and her incident with the irate man she’d charged double. Ironically enough, a few days before that she was on a closing shift with me. A shady guy came in and bought several hundred dollars worth of gift cards from her on her til. As she’s counting out the money (very slowly) the man say to hand it to him that he can show her a trick to count faster. Idiotically enough, she does and he proceeds to “count the money” very quickly. She thanks him and finishes the sale. He than leaves in an unusual hurry. It turns out, he’d tricked her and pocketed about $300 of his money back. She was never reprimanded or punished for her stupidity. But, back to my story. The next day after the incident (and talking to officers I knew personally about the matter) I returned to the store and demanded my money back. After some hassle they refunded my money as the “evidence” couldn’t be found. This “footage” was apparently all here say from Kat. Legally, they had to return my money or I could sue them. My DM than tells me “I just want you to know that we didn’t fire you over the theft, we fired you because we have you on camera checking out a customer while you had an open box of shipment on the counter. They COULD have stolen from us.” Really? That’s what you’re going with now? I take my money and leave. Fuck them, and Kat specifically. UPDATE- After several calls from the security company that my store used telling me that my store wasn’t opening or closing at the appropriate times I got fed up and called Kat. She just laughed and said that she doesn’t work there anymore. Apparently, she was fired for something. As humorous as that is I am also saddened to find out that my good and honest coworker John was also fired.
I'm currently working for Gamestop. Even though my store's numbers are a bit below company's expectations, I do enjoy the job. I just really want to be a full time worker without being in a manager position.
I had that spot. I started in a mall store then helped open a new one and was offered a position there. We didn't have a YTD, so we all had full time. Things were cut slightly the next year some time, but being the GA with the most numbers kept me at 40. I did have to take keys home on a few occasions, and was even expected to security check a leaving ASM in front of cams on his last night. While pretty much every other job I've had paid better, it was the only one I could say I liked going to every day. I think having that rare full time GA position helped. If you were any higher than a 3rd key, your job was on the line, or at least your tenure in your store, you'd be shipped out to a shitty one, at best, lose your job at worst.
I worked for Autozone and they are very similar. You'd get bitched at if you didn't sell people unnecessary shit. One of the big things is the "scanner" There were people who needed things immediately and I'd sell them a sensor they needed. A lot of times, I'd tell them to double check with a garage if they were unsure about spending 500 dollars for a part when it could just need a tune up...Very vicious and also low paying...
It's unfortunate, but that's usually how corporate America works. When someone gets fired, leaves, or transferred, they just put that persons duties onto another employee, and refuse to acknowledge that person as anything but what their original title states they are. Companies simply do not want to compensate their employees more than what they originally signed up for (when hired), and if you do get a raise, it's usually something small like 10 cents an hour or something. The only way you will ever make a significantly more money is you you just leave and go somewhere else. Very rarely do people jump pay grades at one specific company, whether its retail, suit-and-tie, etc, regardless of how much more work they make you do. At the end of the day, you are just an employee, and its the companies job to milk you for as much work as they can for as little as possible. That's just corporate America for ya.
That's good to hear there are companies out there that do that. I've never been fortunate enough to work a job that gave me a significant raise. All my retail jobs were just 20 cent raises, tops. My first post-college job refused to promote me cause my Bachelors said the "wrong title" (even though I worked there 10 years). I had to switch companies to get (what I considered) a promotion and pay raise. Good to hear you work for a company that seems to take care of you!

The Dippin Dots is still there. I mean GameStop has a store directly across the street from the mall that this GameStop was in and they were open and operating at the same time. I mean can you say overkill?! I never understood that. I actually trained at the one that was inside the mall back when it was EB Games. So glad I got the hell out of there not too long after GameStop bought them out. Funny thing is the District Manager you refer to is still with the company if I’m not mistaken. As a matter of fact I got overlooked because of one of those favorites which he ended up having to fire due to theft not too long after I left. GameStop isn't paying you more then $10 unless your an ASM. So lots of ass kissing, good sales and working crap 4 hour shifts. They do not higher in managers unless they feel no one in that district is promotable.

What incentive do you have to work harder if the pay increase is so minimal? I've seen my assistant manager who has been with the company for 4 years bust his ass while I'm standing there like, "Uhh... you don't get paid enough to stay here until 2am rearranging this entire store."

Well, the thing is... I feel like now is the worst time to strive for that since GameStop's financial forecast is abysmal. In the past six months, their shares have dropped 50+% and collectibles are 35% of their sales at this point. I'm a seasonal hire and I have asked my managers if they have any concerns about this but they blow it off. They seem to genuinely think that GameStop is successful. Anyway, I got home last night at 11pm, didn't sleep, and am going in for my 5:30am Black Friday shift. I'm a bit nervous. I get off at 2pm. So, we'll see.
+Chris Topher I will tell you as a retail manager you never express longevity concerns of the company with those below you. A lot of that has to do with employee morale. A good manager should always be concerned with the mindset of their employees.
Oh right, that's true. On a side note, today (Black Friday) was dead. Yesterday, we were so damn busy and we sold out of all of our specials ($3,000+ in used sales which was way over goal). Then today, I show up at 5:30am and there was very few people until about noon. So weird. Also, I just saw the schedule for the next two weeks. I'm not on it. I guess that's it then... I suppose it's over. Maybe I didn't impress them enough to keep me long term. Or maybe it was my inquisitive nature about the company. Regardless of what happens, I'm glad I got to work there to see what it's actually like. I'm happy with my experience and felt I did all I could do. Thanks for talking with me a bit. Yeah, also if you get busy and your the only employee there. It can turn into a shit show real fast. Most thieves will use someone as a distraction while they steal. Or if they walk in with a gun only one person makes that easy

i work retail resets suck lol. I've only been working retail for a year. i only get scheduled 2 or 3 days a week. I work more than that because I cover my assistant managers shift.
I just recently quit from gamestop. My manager was really bad. Never showed me where the schedule on my 1st day and got mad at me for missing a shift when I didnt know when I was working. 2nd Shift on Black Friday and worked 9 - 10 hours that day. Had 2 more regular shifts. My 5th shift I was on when then VP of gamestop and other corporate execs came in and peppered all the employees on questions and I didnt know 3/4ths of them because I had only been instructed to work the floor and generally know the store as a whole. They gave me super inconsistent hours and I felt like I was just the kid who could work whenever to my manager and not treated as a employee. Hell he never trained me to ring people up lol. My co workers sucked mostly as well. Decided to try to get a job at best buy.
Just quit my first location yesterday. Enjoyed but hated it at same time, gaming retail just isn’t what it used to be. Also district sucks. My manager didn’t know gaming at all but took over almost every sales pitch opportunity I had. It’s a dangerous area as well so customers were especially bad. The seasonal gig is a joke, 10 hour a week max. They really don’t care about giving you hours or good wage but won’t cut slack on time off and no holiday pay as you mentioned. So i feel your pain. I used to watch your vids a lot before working there thanks for the insight I am grateful for all I learned but digital has taken over and customer base is mostly clueless, shady scammers or obnoxious families.
Yeah I was there as Digital was just starting to become prominent. So midnight releases were still midnight releases.
I'm not sure about your specific state employment laws, but pretty much everywhere in the US, if they hire you for a type of work within a specific scope, and then they make you do other work outside of that scope equal to that of higher level and higher-paid employees, that's super illegal. They can't have employees with a higher title and more pay and then you, doing part or all of the same work on top of your agreed-upon job.
I'm sure you know this, I just figured I would post it for anyone else in a similar situation.
NOTE: Just make sure to ALWAYS get your scope of employment in writing at the time of hire.
so last year I bought dying light the enhanced edition from game stop in February when it was new. idk if you played it or beat it but mine isn't possible to beat. Im supposed to meet Rias at the top of the tower and when I get there and try to go up the ladder, the cut scene with the QTE doesn't happen. Im just left up there wondering around and trying to go up the ladder and activate the cut scene. you think gamestop could be part of the problem?

I was thinking the same thing but I was already skeptical cause going there even as a kid I could tell it was a very shitty corporate company. The trade ins are rip offs, the power up rewards is bullshit now they have this new elite pro members which is even more bullshit, pre owned games are rip offs, (likely to get one that doesn’t even work than you bring it back and they give you back the same copy just made to look like they gave you a different copy.) the times I’ve dealt with corporate I’ve been ripped off too. So before I even applied I went online and looked at reviews and experiences from different people and I saw the same story from almost everything I saw. The good reviews are probably people inside gamestop corporate that are paid to give it a good review. Threw the idea of applying for gamestop out the window

Yeah, I remember that stupid program. It was a pretty crappy deal with no SM. Were you an asm or an sga? I remember my second store I was in as an sga and right before Black Friday we were closing due to 3 stores in the same mall, they were toasting the SM, the asm quit a month earlier, and I was made to do a lot of shipping out of products to the other stores in the district as well as help close out the store.

I miss a former manager named caesar at my local gamestop cause he was the main reason, I went to gamestop because he had a awesome and positive attitude and when there was a midnight launch especially batman arkham knight, he dressed up as the joker and he was gamestop at my local gamestop and once he was fired, my local gamestop hasn't been the same, its not as fun anymore and theres no hype for games as much and the employees who worked with him even miss him, the day those employees leave is the day I stop going to my local gamestop because they treated me and my friends and many others like we were family in a gaming community :'(

So, I worked for GameStop for just under a year. I was hired immediately as an SGA and for the first few months, things were fine. However, I soon started to see the rampant favoritism and blatant disregard for the job my manager had. Her name was Kat and she was in her early 20’s. She was more concerned with taking “sexy selfies” in the bathroom and talking about how she was cheating on her boyfriend with various other men. I had fairly decent numbers in preorder and used games. Hers were outrageous. I soon found out that was because of her rampant flirting with the customers and wearing slutty clothes that, frankly... any manager at any other place would be fired for. She also had a reseller frequently come in and gave him massive discounts because they worked together in his stall. (Him as a seller and her dressed in whatever slutty costume she had that day) Anyway, there was also another SGA that worked with me sometimes named Kaan. Kaan was a lazy piece of shit that bought the cheapest games he could find and than bought the “protection” on them to boost his own numbers. He also had a bad habit of sitting in the stepstoool directly under the camera where it couldn’t see him and playing in his phone all night, making me do all of the work. Over time, I had made friends with some of the regulars that came in and even got one of them hired under me. His name was John and he was a very kind, straight forward guy. Always diligent with his work and always smiling. He was a real asset. Well, one of the nights he and I are closing the store together one of our tills is short by about $300. It wasn’t an error on our part either. Our cock hungry manager had made an error with an online order she’d handled. A gentleman had ordered a PS4 system and she’d charged him for two. Understandably, he came in later that night with the excess system and wanted his money back. I called her and told her the situation and she authorized me to refund him and take the sealed product back into inventory. John and I closed the store as normal that night and things seemed to be okay. The following day, I am called into the office in back about 10 minutes into my shift. I’m ambushed by the DM and another higher up on the phone. They put me through a long lecture about how to prevent stealing and the like. At the end of the speech, the man says “So, how much would you say you’ve stolen from us? $5,000?” I’m in shock. I have no idea how to respond. I’d never taken a dime from the store, let alone any merchandise. They tell me that “we have footage of you the other night pocketing money from the til. We say you put it in your back pockets.” I tell them that they are mistaken and request to see this footage. I’m told, “we don’t have to show you anything”. I tell them the truth, that Kat made an error and that John was with me the whole night there. Although he was my friend at that point, he wouldn’t compromise his integrity and lie for me. He has a good character and i thought he’d be a prime witness of the events of the night. They immediately tell me that his testimony doesn’t matter. They “couldn’t see him on the camera” despite John and I both being less than skinny guys both cramped behind the desk. I was made to sign a “confession” paper and to write what I was accused of. I wrote the events of the night and that I was not there alone, but with a coworker who could attest to my innocence. This only enraged them. I was told I have to cross that out and initial it as my own idea to negate what I’d written. They weren’t interested in the truth. I was fired and told I’d be locked up if I didn’t pay them $250 on the spot. Well, being as I didn’t take the money in the first place, i couldn’t repay it. So, they asked what I COULD pay. Regretfully, I was honest and said I only have $150 free. They made me give it to them. After I did, they wanted to know why I hadn’t paid more. I told them, “I can’t give you what I don’t have”. Enraged and embarrassed about the situation ,I left the store without a penny to my name or a job to make any. All the while, Kat just looks at me smiling. I’m thoroughly convinced she manipulated the higher ups into firing me. I think she was mad I made her look incompetent at her job when I reported the til shortage and her incident with the irate man she’d charged double. Ironically enough, a few days before that she was on a closing shift with me. A shady guy came in and bought several hundred dollars worth of gift cards from her on her til. As she’s counting out the money (very slowly) the man say to hand it to him that he can show her a trick to count faster. Idiotically enough, she does and he proceeds to “count the money” very quickly. She thanks him and finishes the sale. He than leaves in an unusual hurry. It turns out, he’d tricked her and pocketed about $300 of his money back. She was never reprimanded or punished for her stupidity. But, back to my story. The next day after the incident (and talking to officers I knew personally about the matter) I returned to the store and demanded my money back. After some hassle they refunded my money as the “evidence” couldn’t be found. This “footage” was apparently all here say from Kat. Legally, they had to return my money or I could sue them. My DM than tells me “I just want you to know that we didn’t fire you over the theft, we fired you because we have you on camera checking out a customer while you had an open box of shipment on the counter. They COULD have stolen from us.” Really? That’s what you’re going with now? I take my money and leave. Fuck them, and Kat specifically.
UPDATE- After several calls from the security company that my store used telling me that my store wasn’t opening or closing at the appropriate times I got fed up and called Kat. She just laughed and said that she doesn’t work there anymore. Apparently, she was fired for something. As humorous as that is I am also saddened to find out that my good and honest coworker John was also fired.
I'm currently working for Gamestop. Even though my store's numbers are a bit below company's expectations, I do enjoy the job. I just really want to be a full time worker without being in a manager position.

I had that spot. I started in a mall store then helped open a new one and was offered a position there. We didn't have a YTD, so we all had full time. Things were cut slightly the next year some time, but being the GA with the most numbers kept me at 40. I did have to take keys home on a few occasions, and was even expected to security check a leaving ASM in front of cams on his last night. While pretty much every other job I've had paid better, it was the only one I could say I liked going to every day. I think having that rare full time GA position helped. If you were any higher than a 3rd key, your job was on the line, or at least your tenure in your store, you'd be shipped out to a shitty one, at best, lose your job at worst.

I worked for Autozone and they are very similar. You'd get bitched at if you didn't sell people unnecessary shit. One of the big things is the "scanner" There were people who needed things immediately and I'd sell them a sensor they needed. A lot of times, I'd tell them to double check with a garage if they were unsure about spending 500 dollars for a part when it could just need a tune up...Very vicious and also low paying...

It's unfortunate, but that's usually how corporate America works. When someone gets fired, leaves, or transferred, they just put that persons duties onto another employee, and refuse to acknowledge that person as anything but what their original title states they are.
Companies simply do not want to compensate their employees more than what they originally signed up for (when hired), and if you do get a raise, it's usually something small like 10 cents an hour or something. The only way you will ever make a significantly more money is you you just leave and go somewhere else. Very rarely do people jump pay grades at one specific company, whether its retail, suit-and-tie, etc, regardless of how much more work they make you do. At the end of the day, you are just an employee, and its the companies job to milk you for as much work as they can for as little as possible.
That's just corporate America for ya.

That's good to hear there are companies out there that do that. I've never been fortunate enough to work a job that gave me a significant raise. All my retail jobs were just 20 cent raises, tops. My first post-college job refused to promote me cause my Bachelors said the "wrong title" (even though I worked there 10 years). I had to switch companies to get (what I considered) a promotion and pay raise.

As soon as you said they sat at Dippin Dots for 2 hours I was like hey that’s the Tuttle Mall GameStop which is now gone. I believe there is a sports clothing store or something there now. The Dippin Dots is still there. I mean GameStop has a store directly across the street from the mall that this GameStop was in and they were open and operating at the same time. I mean can you say overkill?! I never understood that. I actually trained at the one that was inside the mall back when it was EB Games. So glad I got the hell out of there not too long after GameStop bought them out. Funny thing is the District Manager you refer to is still with the company if I’m not mistaken. I took him as a GameStop lifer when I was there lol

GameStop isn't paying you more then $10 unless your an ASM. So lots of ass kissing, good sales and working crap 4 hour shifts. They do not higher in managers unless they feel no one in that district is promotable.
I think the last time I went to gamestop was a year or over a year. Don't miss it and like you I go to Best Buy also target and that hell hole wal mart bet Wal Mart backwards is Martial Law just for a fun fact.

What incentive do you have to work harder if the pay increase is so minimal? I've seen my assistant manager who has been with the company for 4 years bust his ass while I'm standing there like, "Uhh... you don't get paid enough to stay here until 2am rearranging this entire store."
+Chris Topher it's for the hope of moving up. Or even just the drive to be the best at your job. I always wanted to be the best at any job I was doing.
Well, the thing is... I feel like now is the worst time to strive for that since GameStop's financial forecast is abysmal. In the past six months, their shares have dropped 50+% and collectibles are 35% of their sales at this point. I'm a seasonal hire and I have asked my managers if they have any concerns about this but they blow it off. They seem to genuinely think that GameStop is successful. Anyway, I got home last night at 11pm, didn't sleep, and am going in for my 5:30am Black Friday shift. I'm a bit nervous. I get off at 2pm. So, we'll see.
+Chris Topher I will tell you as a retail manager you never express longevity concerns of the company with those below you. A lot of that has to do with employee morale. A good manager should always be concerned with the mindset of their employees.
Oh right, that's true. On a side note, today (Black Friday) was dead. Yesterday, we were so damn busy and we sold out of all of our specials ($3,000+ in used sales which was way over goal). Then today, I show up at 5:30am and there was very few people until about noon. So weird. Also, I just saw the schedule for the next two weeks. I'm not on it. I guess that's it then... I suppose it's over. Maybe I didn't impress them enough to keep me long term. Or maybe it was my inquisitive nature about the company. Regardless of what happens, I'm glad I got to work there to see what it's actually like. I'm happy with my experience and felt I did all I could do.

+Chris Topher yeah it's the downside is hours get cut pretty drastically after this week. Best thing to do is ask the store manager if he plans to keep you after the holidays. Your COL score will be the real answer for him though.

Since your usually by yourself depending on the store you work in your very likely to get robbed. Some stores get robbed weekly or more.

Yeah, also if you get busy and your the only employee there. It can turn into a shit show real fast. Most thieves will use someone as a distraction while they steal. Or if they walk in with a gun only one person makes that easy
@@BPGRYT see I'd want more than one employee if I did it I worked at a snocone stand when I was 13 yes off the books job but it was a job I got minimum wage they had me closing this was a geguetto snocone stand and I counted the money by myself
