    I live in San Francisco, and adoption has been placed on my heart, I have always wanted to be a dad. I now it's going to be hard as a single dad but I want to give that kid a good chance. thank you so much for your videos.

      Congrats on your decision to adopt! It isn't an easy road, just as kids who come through adoption haven't had an easy road. However, it can be a beautiful journey, especially if we travel it with others. Thank you for traveling it with us!

    We’re going with NYAP, a private agency. No fees for anything. We have cell phone numbers for all of our workers. Our classes/training took less than a month to get completed. We were able to do 2-3 classes a week. The best part of private agency is they are multi-county. We can get babies from any surrounding county. Living in a suburb of Cleveland but a different county, we would have minimal chance of getting a newborn since our county is small.

    We would never made it without our social workers.

    Do you ever have the experience that you report an unauthorized unsupervised visit and the county does nothing? Or that they keep giving parents chance after chance and see you as foster parent bad guy for reporting?

    Sounds like a private agency would be a better way to go, especially if I want to adopt the older kids who we all know are the ones that slip through the system as everyone wants babies and very little kids to adopt. Having the extra help available much quicker though would definitely be nice, especially for someone that's new to the foster care system.
    The issues I see though is if these private agencies charge ridiculous fees it kind of goes against my feelings towards helping kids, charging fees for everything I think is a bit ridiculous to be able to take in kids and possibly adopt.

      I am also really bothered by these fees. California passed laws that don't allow them. There are a lot of amazing foster families that are just barely getting by financially. Agencies already get paid by counties for both foster care and adoptions. If, in some states, it is not enough, it should become enough. This is something we need to advocate for in other states as well.

    Thanks! I’m currently deciding whether to switch to the county as the agency I work with now has high turnover and I have not been matched in the 8 months I have been with them. I am in California. I think it does not make sense that we have to choose between an agency or the county. If the neighboring county 10 min from me has a match, why should I be excluded if I’m with the county? Doesn’t seem in the best interest of the children. Thank you for this video.

      It is definitely a tough decision. I've been back and forth over the last 7 years. Neither option is perfect so you have to find what works for you. That said, if it is like Ohio, our numbers in foster care have been significantly reduced during COVID (fewer mandated reporters have eyes on kids which means a lot of abuse is not being caught 😟). I'm told that just now numbers have begun to go back up. Maybe waiting until the September/October foster care influx would be best unless you really do not like the agency you're working with? It looks like things may be heading back to normal.

    How much would you say private cost?

    • @letsgodad
      @letsgodad  3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      A private agency for foster/foster adoption? I can only speak from my experience. In some states it is free. In other places I've seen it cost from $500 a year to $1500 a year. I'm sure there are agencies that are more expensive. I'd say money is much less important than the support they offer. Talk to foster parents with an agency before signing up.

      An FYI, we are in the home stretch with a private agency called The Bair Foundation (located in many states). We are in Ohio and we have not been charged a dime thus far.
      We are on the fence though because we want to keep birth order which means 5 and under. However, private agencies bring higher risk children. So. We will see how it goes with Bair.

      @@allisonmarthe8672 That is great to know! I've heard good things about the Bair foundation from someone in my foster/adopt support group. Let us know how it goes.
      It is hard for me not to be offended by agencies charging foster parents fees when...
      1. I know they get paid by the county and/or state.
      2. They then turn around and complain that there are too few foster parents willing to take anything other than infants. And...
      3. I have been with a free agency before that provided more support/better services than many of the agencies that charge large fees.
      That said, the agency we're with now seems to go above and beyond. We're very happy with them so far.

      @@letsgodad i am from india can i adopt a kid in america and migrate to india ? and how much it will cost ?

    • @letsgodad
      @letsgodad  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@nidhiyadav8802 Technically I know the answer is yes. However, most social workers hesitate to place children out of state. I imagine the ones willing to place a child in an international adoption are few and far between.
      That said, the US State Department website has information on international adoptions if you are interested. For U.S. citizens it is free or close to free to adopt most waiting kids from foster care. I don't know if this applies to non-citizens as well. That is something you may have to ask.
