    Most definitely this was Dave Gahan's best vocal achievement. It's a very personal song for him considering he had entered such a dark period in his life and survived. etc.

    Greetings from Buenos Aires, Argentina, I have been a fan of DM since I was 13 years old just after the release of 101 in 1989, since then they have never stopped being my favorite band by far. It's a shame that they didn't come to South America for this tour. Excellent analysis, you are a really talented person and I also realize that you are a great human being.

    Love getting Steve Lyon's input of things. It's amazing being able to go down memory lane with the engineers & producers with the making of SOFD and other albums/songs etc.

    One of the very rare occasions when I prefer the remix to the original, and in this case I think that the Paris Mix is absolutely outstanding.

    Love the break down of the music and the use of the Crushed Note and on over to the Diminished Note! Amazing,

    I am an old fart now. I got into DM in the ‘80s and have followed them as a huge fan for the rest of their career. But I question if I am a true fan now as I just never got on with their newer direction with guitars, and their gospel themed songs. I really enjoyed them initially as a pure synth act. Though they have had synth gems here and there after Music for the Masses, it seems they’ve gone full circle and become a traditional sounding band, sprinkled with synth work and processed drums. I hope they will do another 180 and return back to their pure synth roots. I also hope they can find it in themselves to make songs that exceed 105 BPM.

    I do have to admit when Martin sings it on the Exotic Tour it's a lot more emotional. I wish Martin sang it on the album.

  • @FredrikAndersson597
    @FredrikAndersson597 6 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

    Never really liked Condemnation, too much gospel for my taste and I think the song itself lacks a musical hook.
    But I heard it not so long ago where Martin sang it live during the exotic tour in 1994, or 1995. The song took on a completely different character. Martin twists the notes and hits different tones than Dave which made the song surprisingly beautiful.
    Dave may sing it well with his sturdy and slightly sloping voice, but I would have preferred this particular song with Martin's voice and his more precise hitting of the notes.
    Haven't heard the demo but I can imagine that the original song is intended to hit the notes that Martin did when he sang it during the exotic tour, but that Dave with his noisier voice can't reach.

    I agree with Dave a little bit. But listen to DRESSED IN BLACK from Black Celebration. His vocal was powerful in my opinion.

    I stopped hearing Depeche Mode after Alan left the band. The darkness that made DM so interesting disappeared. Martin is great but not enough on his own. Can you please do a video on that amazing remix of Route 66. Never seen anyone on TH-cam exploring that gem.

  • @sandracole5265

    I love and appreciate this song, but I don't think it does well singing it live. Martin Gore can sing this song for sure, but for Dave Gahan it's more personal and hence why it packs a stronger punch in the end.

    Although I agree with your description fully on Condemnation, I'm still not there yet, I've never liked this song or particularly liked this album either for that matter, it's just a little too much freeform for my taste. I will say though around that time I had been away from electronic music for a couple of years and so I didn't bought the album when it was released, however I do remember hearing some amazing music coming from the TV in the other room one day and I got up to check it out and the TV was showing figure skating and as I kept listening the music just got better and better and suddenly a very familiar voice started singing "In your room...". Needless to say I bought the album some time after. I know I'm well in the minority as most DM fans seem to hold this album as one of their best, I think it has it's moments still.
