Hi I’m Sarah from Maine :) I’m going through stage four skin cancer and it’s my second time frost time was stage two but pottery is such a good mental relief and helps me find my center which with two small kids 6 & 7 I need ! Keep the videos coming sending love your way!
Wow! Thank you for letting me know. I hope you, your place, and pottery are okay. 💖 Vaov! Bana bildirdiğiniz için teşekkür ederim. Umarım sen, yerin ve çanak çömlek iyidir. 💖
Thank you. I’m in Clevrland Ohio and new to your channel. I’ve learned a lot from you and I’m grateful! Much appreciated for you to take the time to make and edit these videos so well.
This is so smart! It seems like every potter uses really long pieces of plywood, including the school where I work sometimes. Using these smaller drywall wareboards makes so much more sense! I love your videos, too :)
Hi. I’m fairly new to pottery (started my clay journey in January 2022). I’ve been learning a lot from your videos 🙂. I just threw my first lidded piece and I can’t wait to get it glazed and fired 🙂. Thank you for all your great content
@@PotteryCrafters I lost my lidded piece when I was trimming 🙁. I was too impatient and didn’t wait for it to be leather hard and it fell and smooshed. Lesson learned. Patience is a virtue. It’s ok though. I’ll just make another one 🙂. I try not to get too invested in a piece at this point because I know it’s not finished until it’s finished 🙂
Working with pottery is helping with my perfectionism. I can’t say that it’s healed because I still want everything to be perfect. I’m learning to accept that handmade things are not going to be absolutely perfect in every way to everybody. It has helped me to apply that to my life as well ❤️
Hi Sandra. That is a good question. No. Because Kiln wash is only useful in the kiln to protect your kiln shelves by preventing the melting glaze from sticking to the kiln shelves. If you haven't seen it. Here is a video on protecting your kiln shelves th-cam.com/video/ss-kqVRXhl8/w-d-xo.html
Thank you so much for the helpful video! I am just starting in my pottery journey and was going to make kiln cookies as my first project (thank you for that video too!) i was wondering how to get the drywall board home from Lowes, and now I can just cut it up in the parking lot and load in my car 🙌😊
You are most welcome. Cool!!! Welcome to the wonderful world of pottery crafting. Now that's funny. I did the same thing. I cut it up in the parking lot until it could fit in my car. 😀
Hi Donna. Good question. No, I don't. I use a half-inch 2 by 4 piece of maple wood that I clamp to my work table with C-Clamps. Then when I glaze I take the wood off my work table. 😊
Just yesterday my bid won at auction for a Cress FX23P. I have never fired any kind of kiln so this makes me a bit nervous. It’s manual with a kiln sitter, so i know it won’t be as easy as pushing a few buttons. Any help you can givewill be greatly appreciated.
Congratulations 😃So happy for you. It's pretty easy. Just get the small pyrometric cones that you want to fire to and the kiln will stop when the pyrometric cone hits the temperature and bends. Don't know if you have seen this but it may help. th-cam.com/video/jtdtBExNpqY/w-d-xo.html 😍
Good question Idelle. 😊 I got my portable boards at Lowes. You can get 2 by 2 or 2 by 4 - half-inch thick or quarter-inch-thick pieces of oak, maple, or plywood. then I secure it to my table with C-Clamps. These boards come in handy. I flip mine around and use a separate one for my colored clay and glazing 😊
Hi there. Love your videos! I have one question. I have used drywall with clay a few times, but the paper seems to disintegrate quickly. Why this material instead of plywood?
Thank you, Lisa. That is a good question. Plywood is also good to use. I like drywall because it's easy to cut into the sizes I like. Yes, you have to be careful not to get the drywall paper too wet. I put newspaper over the drywall ware boards when I'm working with wet clay. 😊
Hi Adhis 😊 That is great 😍 Make good use out of the space you have. Feel free to visit Potterycrafters youtube channel th-cam.com/users/PotteryCraftersvideos for any videos that may help you on your pottery journey. 👍
Interesting! I haven't had those problems because I live in the desert. Did you try placing newspaper on top to stop the moisture? Thank you for sharing.
Thank you so much for sharing this very informative video! :) Do you think I could cut small shapes out of clay with an exacto knife directly on the board (so I don’t have to handle it by transferring the delicate pieces)? Also, in another video I noticed you use newspaper to dry between boards, but will it definitely stick if you don’t use newspaper?
Thank you 😊 Good question, yes you can cut right on the ware board just put newspaper down so you don't cut into the board. Yes, I put newspaper down so the clay doesn't stick. 😊 No, the clay will only stick to the board if the clay is real moist.
Hi! I like your videos- they’re very informative! What do you use as a working board (for wedging, building etc.) I take it burlock is not practical as it doesn’t take humidity very well? My name is Beatriz btw.
Thank you Beatriz 💖 I use a piece of oak wood that I got from Lowes. It is 2 feet by 3 feet and a half-inch thick. I use C-clamps to hold it in place on my table. It works well and absorbs the moisture well also. 😍
Hey Marie! I love your videos and they are so helpful, however there is a very loud buzzing throughout this video that is distracting while trying to listen to your helpful instructions. Just wanted to be sure you were aware! Thaks for all your knowledge :)
Thank you, Elle.😍Sorry about that.Thank you for bringing it to my attention. I just listened to it to see if something technical had gone wrong. I did not hear any loud buzzing sound. I hope it was just a technical glitch. 😊

What an idea to use drywall board instead of plywood. I like it.
Thanks Linda.😊 They are so easy to make and to the size that's handy for you to use.

Thank you Delaney 😍
Would it be a good idea to put kiln wash on the back of the ware board?

Hi, just watched you setting up your living room, really helpful. Thank you and well done! 😊 JK from UK
Thanks so much! Glad I could help give you some setup ideas 😊 Would love to visit the UK someday. Home of the great pottery throw down👍
Hello Marie, thanks for another super useful video. Can drywall also be used to make shelves? I use pine shelves but they end up warping.
Thank you Lisa. Great question. Yes you can. I would recommend using the 3/4 inch think drywall. 😊
I need to make some ware boads thank you for showing us how
You are so welcome. I was thinking of you when I watched your unloading video. 😍
Do you use your drywall ware boards for wedging and/or hand building?
