Cambois is pronounced Cammis. When we first moved up here, people laughed when we pronounced it Cam-Bois.

Good to know, and what a lovely place it is. We live near Altrincham , but you pronounce it Altringham

If you had continued walking past the church, and past the caravans, you would have been on the north beach, the one you were on was the south beach, the North beach is usually a lot more quiet. Its surprising just how few people know its there.

Cambois has a friendly cafe/Chippy just at the top of the main car park. Hot drinks, ice cream, fish and chips. Buckets and spades for the kids or grab a pint in the pub next door. Cambois beach goes on for ages also, had you walked right along.
You should of had a walk round the church graveyard, some interesting old graves. The maritime centre also in newbiggin is an interesting little museum, tells the story of the area and you can grab a bite to eat or drink in their cafe also. Had you walked along the actual prom instead of the sand you would of seen the miniature statue of the couple sculpture and more info on it. Also the RNLI lifeboat centre. Good few coffee shops and couple chippies in the centre of the village.
The prom goes on for ages and takes you right round to a little children’s park.
You could of show them both off a lot better than you did. The Haven caravan park at church point in Newbiggin is an ideal place to stay to explore all our lovely beaches. We have miles of coastline to explore.

We loved our visit, alas it was only for a few hours, and an area that hopefully one day we will return to.

Not sure about metal detecting, but would guess it would be OK.

Just thought I'd let you know that Cambois is pronounced Cammis. Yeah, I thought that was a bit weird. I live at Blyth about 3 miles from Newbiggin-by-the-Sea and fo there often. It's a lovely beach. That couple standing on a plinth are known locally as Eb and Flo (Ebb and Flow, get it 😊) there is a smaller version of them on the promenade so that people can get a better look at them. Glad you enjoyed our lovely Coastline. 👍🏻😊

Thanks June, I am working down in West Wales this session, but really do hope to be back up your way soon, a very special place.
