What a fascinating history lesson. My husband has been to both Ocmulgee and Etowah mounds as a kid. We really need to take our kids. What an amazing connection that the Mayans and Creek Indians worked together. Thank you for putting this video together, your efforts will hopefully speed up the process of it becoming a national park! Will put this on our list of places to stop on our way up to Georgia this summer

I lived in Macon for part of my childhood. The Monument property takes in a lot of undeveoped acreage. We visited mounds deep in the forest on the floodplains of the river. Very large mounds made invisible because of the dense forests.
I have noticed that our past few newly created National Parks are rather puny. The nation seems to have lost the guts to create large new Parks that encompass big territory with diverse landscapes and ecosystems. I'll take what we can get, but we need vast National Parks such as the long proposed North Woods NP.

    • @NickandRachel
