I think one of the voices is that of Stanley Unwin. Minus gobbledegook If you no what I mean. I'm busy dying of bone cancer and drawn great comfort from this. Thanks Delia and TH-cam.
I remember listening to this when it was first broadcast in BBC Radio; I have never forgotten it. To find it here, all these years later and being much older(!) it’s still wonderful.
I can't imagine a time where this was even *made*, let alone broadcast, let alone on goddamn BBC radio along with the Archers. The BBC was insane at this time, it was basically just a bunch of ex RAF officers who allowed some of the most experimental, avart garde stuff seen in Europe, despite not really having any idea they were doing so. Sigh. Where did the future go?
She did dark ambient/ambient ages before anybody even started laying the blueprint for it. There were times in these pieces where I was reminded of Akira Yamaoka's ambient tunes.
Holy hell this is staggering. Beautuful. Awe inspiring. This came from a pokey little workshop in the creaking burecracy of the BBC, and yet its on the level of Aphex Twin. Derbyshire was a visionary, seeing the possibilities of this medium decades before someone like Wendy Carlos, in synthesising electronics and music. She crafted the poetry of music from the building blocks of raw sound. Christ, what a women. She should be on a banknote.
Holy Mowly, as “that goth guy” from Germany for over 2 decades in my beloved environment now. I have to say: “Hell yeah that’s Goth! E.A.Poe would be jealous!” That woman has earned a post mortal Granny Award!!!! Such a genius concerning in 1965 they Tape&Razor to record and arrange!!!! That is what amazes and chills me in comparison to all the possibilities we have now! THX for uploading! Kind regards MASH 💀

Is that a true story?
To my dismay, I only just discovered DD last week. What a huge figure. This is as human as it gets.

Double D, from the BBC
Pure genius
Were the voices recorded specifically for the record or did she use existing voice recordings? Amazing work anyways. Thank you Delia.

Supposing these people have passed on, I wonder how their experiences compare to their pre-conceived notions of what to expect...
